“A Nice central location”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

The Savoy in downtown Buenos Aires is a beautiful hotel built in the 1920's, its Art Deco style is evident everywhere. Recently renovated, this hotel is a trip advisor winner and comes highly recommended. I asked if they had any upgrades and I was given a slightly bigger room at no extra cost. The room was lovely, high ceilings with beautiful crown molding, and all the necessities including a safe, refrigerator, desk, king sized bed, and flat screen TV. Another bonus was that the free Internet that can be accessed from the lobby worked in my first floor room! There are plenty of markets and restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast which was included in the price ($79 nightly) was very good, with eggs, meats, cheese places, cold and hot cereal, breads and rolls and all the butter, jam, and peanut butter you could want. They also had great coffee, juices, and nice fresh fruit.

Room Tip: If you get a room on the first floor, you can sometimes access the free wifi which is available all...

One of the prettiest hotels I've stayed at. The rooms were a bit dark, but really nice. Would be 5 stars if wifi was free. The staff all spoke english and handled our requests well. Particularly when they negotiated cab fares for us, which is a nice touch.

Flew in from RIO to spend five nights at the Savoy over new years. Chose it because of great reviews central location and great price. Reserved deluxe room. Arrived to very pleasant check in. We were assigned a 1st floor room but I asked reception if we could have something higher up. no problem. We got room 407. Very nice huge bathroom and shower. Incredible water pressure. We were on the side of the hotel on the main street Callao. Actually very quiet. Windows quite soundproof and wonderful room darkening curtains. Reception recommended a semi private three hour city tour which we booked. Had a great tour. Free wifi in lobby which was fine for us. Loaned us a electric converter, which they delivered to the room really quickly. Our toilet wouldn't stop running so we called down to reception and instantly engineering was there to fix it. Included breakfast had wide selection.

Hotel is located a couple blocks from two of the major subways. Be very careful on sidewalks they are treacherous and my major complaint. Gaping holes, missing asphalt just be very careful.

Hotel is located in the central district much more of a everyday area. La Americana restaurant, which one of the other reviewers recommended, was a great first night dinner for us. Casual and great food.

Cabs are reasonable and easy to get. One tip: watch out for the young cab drivers they drive like maniacs and are quite dangerous. All cab drivers tailgate like crazy but the younger drivers add speed to the equation. Had a driver on New Years eve that was insane! I have been in cabs around the world and never felt so close to getting into a serious accident as with this one. When he knew were were mad he drove even more dangerously.

Really enjoyed Buenos Aires and definitely recommend it for a three day visit.

Took a day tour over to Montevideo and definitely recommend it. Leave 7:00 am and take three hour ferry to Uruquay. Took 9pm ferry back. Once there took a hop on hop off tour available right outside port that worked out perfectly.

Room Tip: booking a deluxe room instead of basic seemed to help. Higher floor was definitely the way to go.

We stayed here for 4 nights in December 2012, booked it very early through Expedia at an excellent rate in an Executive Room with breakfast included.
Check in was in the evening and was handled very efficiently by Debra who gave us good information and assitance.
Our room was on the 5th floor in the middle of the hotel, small window, very quiet and nicely decorated, the bathroom was clean & modern, however the bidet did 'smell' because we didn't use it I think, so just made sure we put hot water down it every day.
Breakfast was in the restaurant on the ground floor, very adequate but we did get sick of exactly the same fare each day. The small croissants were my favourite, deliciious!! A daily change of style of eggs would have been ideal.
Free wifi is only available on the ground floor, shame really as this detracted from the overall beautiful appearance of the lobby and bar area, quite a few people sitting around with their devices, including me.
After battling for a whole afternoon trying to get on the Hop On Hop Off Bus we took one of the city tours offered by the hotel the following day. Would certainly do this in a flash next time, pick up and drop off at the hotel and a good tour indeed. Do check with the staff though as Debra gave us far better advice on choosing the tour than one of the other desk staff, they seem to have more on offer than we were given first up. Also the Tango Show she recommended to our friends was a far cheaper and better option than we did. Ask lots of questions, that is what they are there for!!
As others have said about the surrounding area, it is not flash! Sidewalks are in terrible condition, heaps and heaps of grafitti, lots of buildings shut down and windows bricked in, however there is a pharmacy, supermarket, cafes all within walking distance. We went to La Americana a couple of times, it was ok but certainly nothing memorable. Also to Chiquilin which was recommended by Debra and Tripadvisor, did we all order the wrong thing? Or did they give us the English menu that didn't have all the typical BA food listed? So please ask if you go here, some of the dishes coming out of the kitchen did look far better than ours!
If you turn right out of the hotel and keep walking till you get to Avenida Corrientes there is more shopping, eating places etc than if you walk the other way like we did!
Would I stay here again, well no and that is just because of the area where the hotel is, would I recommend it as an experience, in a heart beat, just be aware that the surrounding streets are not pretty and just enjoy the hotel!
Staff most helpful, the gates to the front are shut each evening which made us feel very secure. We did see a protest each day, always peaceful but surely a sign that the residents are not happy with what is happening in their country.

Room Tip: Go for the Executive Room, extra space and well worth it

We are currently on the second night of our three night stay here and I have to say I am not hat impressed. Our room is good, large bed, powerful shower, despite being onto the street minimum noise. The service is shocking, you are left waiting at the bar for ages, the receptionists at the front desk are rude. I have been left disappointed with the savoy and BA altogether. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend either sorry!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. We were in an executive suite which was well worth the price we paid. The room was big, nicely furnished with a balcony. Loved the parquet floors which are always much cleaner than carpeted floors. The bathroom was large. Our room was very quiet despite having the balcony and horns honking all the time outside on the streets.
This hotel is in the business district which was a great area to stay in for part of our trip. Easy access to cabs and within walking distance of many sites. The lobby bar is very impressive. We didn't have time to eat at the restaurant. The staff was superb. Friendly and they spoke many languages. They readily made reservations for us at restaurants or other venues and gave honest reviews of the places we suggested and the areas we wanted to visit. Lucas, was especially helpful as he was our English contact at the hotel, although most of the front desk staff speak English, as well. Our experience was that the cabs were less expensive than the shuttles to the airport.
Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Executive suite was a great value.

We're winding up our honeymoon in Argentina and decided to splurge on an opulent hotel. We booked a corner suite. It was beautifully appointed with a king-sized bed, high ceilings, and decorated to match the rest of the hotel, and oval in shape, a true treat.

You may be wondering why the 2 star rating, it's simple, for the money we know there is better out there AND the many staff (particularly front desk) we interacted with lacked integrity.

On our first day the shower head broke. Not the end of the world, these things happen, but it wasn't possible to shower without one. We informed the front desk and they said someone would be up to fix it, we told them we'd be out for the day and they said it would be done by the time we were back. When we got back we checked with the front desk to see if it was taken care of, we were told it had been. When we went up to our room we saw that nothing had been done. So we proceeded to call the front desk and let them know, they said that they were told it was fixed, we told them it wasn't, and their response was that someone would be up to fix it during the evening while we were out. We returned from our evening and same story, they were told it was fixed, it wasn't, etc... The next morning on our way down to breakfast we checked to see when someone would be by. We were told someone would be right up. Two hours later, no 'someone'. We called again, and within 10 minutes someone was at our door. He took a quick look and said he'd be back. He was, new shower head in hand, promptly fixed it, and that was that. Overall not a huge deal, but we're on vacation and it's not our place, why should we be the ones begging to have the hotel's property fixed just so that we can shower in one of their most expensive suites. Furthermore, don't tell us that it's been fixed if you aren't certain it has been. We didn't pay the money we did to babysit the staff to make sure things got done.

The same type of "just go out and we'll take care of it" but it never got taken care of type situation happened with dinner reservations at a restaurant in town. We had to stand over the person's shoulder politely asking them to call now in order for it to get done.

Simply put if you can't commit to doing something then don't commit. We would have been fine with it. The lack of integrity is what soured our experience with the Savoy.

For the money we are certain there is better out there. We've experienced it personally, heck even the place we were at prior which was 1/4 price per night rose to the occasion when it came to booking events.
