“Amazing neighborhood!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

PLENTY of places to eat, drink, shop, see, be seen, party, read, lounge, etc. I traveled all over the city and can say this neighborhood (which I was fortunate enough to be staying in) was hands down the best. A little edgy/gritty (think SoHo or Chelsea in NYC) but you won't want for anything that's not a 10 minute (or less) walk away. I'll stay in this neighborhood on any future visit to BA, no doubt.

“Favorite Neighborhood”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

This was our first visit to Buenos Aires so we weren't sure where to stay, but the Palermo area turned out to be our favorite. Recoleta is ritzy and the hotels are nice, but Palermo has a lot more charm. Lots of restaurants and good, small hotels.

“Some Pros and Cons”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We rented a lovely apartment in this part of the city for 9 days. Although the area does have some decent cafes and restaurants, the broken up sidewalks are covered with dog poop and pee, trash and garbage. From what we observed, it was not all that unusual for much of Buenos Aires.
This is a mostly residential area, which does not have hoards of people like the city center does.
There are a number of stylish shops of clothing designers and furniture designers also.
The tree lined areas are the nicest. The locals are friendly and helpful.
It is located about 3 miles from the city center and there are lots of buses and cabs available.

“The "hip/trendy" neighborhood”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We stayed at a hotel in Palermo during our 4 days in BA. This area is billed as hip and trendy, the "place to be" of BA. While the restaurants and shops are certainly fitting, I was a little taken aback by the overall look and feel of the area. I am sure a lot of it is based on the recent economic downturn. There were sections of missing/broken sidewalk that puddled into mud. And look down when you walk! Dog walkers here are not fond of cleaning up after their pets. Still, we always felt safe, even leaving the discos as late as 4am. It really is the place to be in BA, especially at night.
