We stumbled onto this by accident (it was on our list of must see sights) but it has been one of the highlights of out trip to date. The young woman who was our guide spoke perfect english and gave a wonderful tour including history of the synagogue (how it got started) and jewish life to date. She was very knowledgeable and welcomed us to return for Shabbat services. It was amazing to see the museum on the top floor (along with a video explaining how and why the Jews came to Buenos Aires) and a beautiful working synagogue on the lower floor. After seeing this, walk to the Shoah holocaust museum, but beware, there is nothing in English at the Shoah museum.

It is wonderful that this synagogue/museum has opened its doors to the public to share both their history and the modern day lifestyle of Jews in Buenos Aires today. The tour consisted of a walk through the museum, with detailed explanation of each exhibit. Then time to sit in the actual synagogue, while our guide described everything in great detail, including the arrival of Jewish people to the country. Her passion for her subject was wonderful, and the fact that she could illustrate the struggle of Argentinian Jews with an example from her own family, made the moment that much more special. In the accompanying leaflet we were given it says that the Museo is committed to conveying what is specifically the characteristics of the Argentine Jews. We left, definitely feeling we had touched on their lives. Limited opening hours of only Tuesday & Thursday between 11am and 6pm

This is a beautiful synagogue with an attached muesum. This is a different place from the Shoah Museum, which is located abbout 6-10 blocks away. Both are worth visiting but the hours here are restricted to only a few in the afternoon on only Tuedays and Thursdays. Ring the doorbell on the right side of the main entrance to the synagogue and you will be admitted -- for a small fee. We had a lovely woman who spoke perfect English show us around and tell us the history of this synagogue and its museum.

This is located a reasonable walk from the Opera house.
