“Very good place for beginners”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Although classes are often too crowded, La Viruta is an excellent place to practice your dancing skills all night long. It is a good mixture of foreigners and locals and it is easy to make friends.

“Great place to learn tango!”
Reviewed December 5, 2012 via mobile

Decided to drop in for their 7pm class on Tuesday. Admission is 40 pesos each and includes a tango lesson. We only stayed an hour but apparently these sessions can go all night and end around 6am. I'd definitely recommend this place for beginners or intermediate tango fans. You don't need to show up with a partner either as you switch every few minutes during the lesson.
It is located in the basement of the Armenian cultural centre across from the church.

“interesting scene; don't eat the food”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

We had heard this was a fun place to see watch the locals dance tango and take a lesson. We decided not to take a lesson, but it was fun to people watch. The instructors put on a short demonstration just before the lesson started, and that was the best part of the evening. We decided to have a late dinner here, since our guide book said the food was homemade and traditional. It was neither. It was processed food heated in a microwave and, compared to most of what we had in BsAs, barely edible. Note that this place is a little hard to find--it's in the basement of a cultural center; there wasn't a separate sign on the street.

“Must visit!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

If you like music and dancing on a cultural note, (and you are traveling in a budget) you must visit La Viruta Tango in Palermo SOHO. They have tango and milonga classes for non-dancers and they do a little demonstration of tango. I enjoyed it very much!

“Good people watching”
Reviewed September 23, 2012 via mobile

We arrived after lessons, so we were just there to people watch. We had to be aggressive finding a table as most were marked "reserved". It kind of felt like being at a wedding reception--but provided for good conversation and a chance to mix in with the locals. It doesn't cost much, so try it out!
