This restaurant is actually a store where the owner, the famous TV Chef Donato, has placed some tables in between the stands with imported delicatessen from Italy. The food is superb. If you want to meet with Donato, you need to come on Saturdays. It is only open for lunch, and closed on Sundays. Waiting for a table is a standard procedure, since booking is not possible. However, while waiting, you are served some nice drinks and snacks. A more Italian restaurant than this is hard to find...

We went there my friend and i and we wait more than 10 min before someone noticed we were there... In the meanwhile the 2 last places where given to a couple arrived after us.
After some discussions we were installed at the end of the bar and after having refused that they move the 2 people arrived after us.
Being Italian and traveling worldwide I have the chance to compare the Italian cooking in several countries and i was expecting real Italian gastronomy but it was as good but not better than at home. Except much more expensive but obviously they are not philantropist.
The owner's wife is very kind while the owner is haughty (probably his supposed TV star status ...) and enough scrooge to refuse offering us a digestive at the time to pay the bill ...
To recap I would say home italian cooking but no more and it will be good if he could learn a little bit more the italian language...

We went twice for dinner there. They don't take reservations and the line gets long by 9pm. Best advice is to get there before 8.30pm. The staff is incredible. Very charming, particularly the Colombian waitress who was very attentive. Recommend Burrata and Risotto ai Funghi Porcini, however for the risotto you have to go on a Wednesday. They change the menu every day therefore the options are only a few. Donato, the chef and owner, came to greet customers.

My friend took us to this restaurant as he has seen the chef on TV, loves the Italian food and had various recommendations.
We could not book, so arrived at around 10;15 on a Wednesday night- we had to wait an hour, which we did, sat at a bar enjoying a bottle of wine, eating the best Burratta ever(made there) and chatting to the chef who was making handmade pasta on a table right next to the diners. The whole atmosphere was relaxed, fun, informal and cool.
The choice of food was small, with maybe 6 starters and 6 mains, three of which were pasta based.
We all chose different dishes, but were universally delighted with our choices.
The staff were absolutely charming, friendly, knowledgable and informal. A free Grappa/Limoncello did no harm at the end either!!
This was a dining experience we will never forget and would be first on our list if ever we return to BA.
