Home San Telmo resembled more a hostel than a B&B however the location was excellent to discover San Telmo and the hosts were exceptionally helpful with local knowledge, tips and advice to discover BA. We only wished there was a bar fridge in the room to keep our drinks cool and our snacks fresh. It's basic but it's well placed and we used it to sleep and siesta. We stayed a week and walked everywhere with ease, ate at some wonderful and famous restaurants in the vicinity, poked around antique stores, captured Tango in the streets and a show, bohemian locals, toured the famous churches and museums and spent a lovely Sunday at the markets. It feels authentically the real heart of BA. We just loved it. So many great bars, so many great people.

Room Tip: Choose the top floor room for space and privacy but be warned you'll need to be fit to handle th...

We stayed there at the beginning and at the end of our trip. The hosts were really helpful and made a lot of valuable recommendations regarding our onward journey. Breakfast is good and served on the rooftop terrace or in your room upon request.

On Sundays there's an antiques market right in front of the house (be aware of the pickpockets!!!). There are good restaurants and Tango places in the neighbourhood. The marina and centre are not far away. Avoid walking around by yourselve at night.

Before we got there, I was quite worried as we had to send a deposit via Western Union to the owners and this seemed very suspicious (we booked via email). But everything worked out well and we were welcomed warmly. They even let us check out very late as our room was not booked the next day which was very nice.

We booked the room on the top floor next to the terrace. It is quite spacious with an extra bed, stand-alone aircondition (noisy) and a small bathroom. The window faces a backyard and not the noisy street. There are a few negative points I would like to point out: the tap was broken, there is no place to hang the towels and there is no big mirror. If the aircon is running you can't sleep without earplugs.

The owners are only there in the morning to serve breakfast and clean the rooms. The day after New Years we had no water but there was no one there to report this problem. The internet connection didn't work, so we looked for a place with wifi and sent the owner an email. Luckily he read it and went over to fix the problem. We could finally take a shower at night!

We've had a very good stay here. This is a B&B so we knew not to expect all the facilities of a hotel. We had a comfortable bed and good shower with plenty of hot water whenever we needed it, everything kept clean and inviting. Everything looks better than the unmarked door and first flight of stairs might make some people think. We knew there'd be no air conditioning, but at this time of year with temperatures at about 25 and some humidity, we were fine with the ceiling fan. We weren't on the road side, but there was still some noise, as you'd expect anywhere so centrally placed in a busy city. The WiFi worked fine, though it can go off, just like at home, so you might have to briefly unplug and replug the router by the owners' desk if they've gone home. The owners are very charming and helpful. They provide a tasty and refreshing breakfast which has set up well for each day. The location is very good.

We will very happily be returning here for a couple of nights before we fly home.

I made a reservation on Venere.com and received confirmation from property. A few hours later I received a message from the property stating that my reservation had been canceled as I had requested. In that message they attached the cancellation policies stating that I would have to pay for first night. The problem is that I never requested to cancel my reservation. I tried to contact property by phone during a whole day without answer. At the end i had to contact my bank to reject any payment.
I recommend to you to avoid this B&B and Venere.com as well. They are not serious with reservations, wont attend phone calls and will try to charge you for their faults.

This place could be so great, just needs to clean up the entrance way (it was quite dirty when we were there) put some plants in the hallways and on the terrace and properly fix the rooms. The owners were on hols when we stayed and their sister was looking after the place. She was really helpful, got more towels (we only had one each and no hair towel), a bathmat, water glasses and an adaptor so we could plug the lights in and the aircon (we stayed on the top floor), it was really, really hot when we were in town and we couldn't have slept without the aircon but it was very noisy (a stand alone machine) so I had to sleep with earplugs. the tap in the sink was broken and lifted out and fell over! They said it had just broken and couldn't get it fixed due to holdiays but it was quite poorly made. The terrace could have been nicer at the top and needed a bit of a clean. Saying all this the location is good and San Telmo is great but maybe stay somewhere else...

Basically, the two more important things are: Location and Owners. Amazing, only 5 blocks of the Casa de la Rosada (pink house) and 2 blocks of Puerto del Madero. Really we stay in the hearth of Fair Market on defensa street. Nice owners, very helpful. We feel like our house. Use the room on the top of house, next the big roof. Nice view and quiet. This is the really Guest House concept. Big room, good price...air conditioning, breakfast and wifi.

We select HOME because looking something different of the traditional places. No elevator, no hotel...warm house...Yes!

Recommend this place, nice owners. Recommend Iguazu Falls and Salta!!!
Dont recommend the beaches in Buenos Aires-

Pros: Owners are very nice and try to be helpful. The breakfast was simple (pastries, juice, ham/cheese sandwiches, coffee, tea, fruit) but nice. The locations is FANTASTIC for the San Telmo market. The place sits literally on the market route. You are also relatively close to Puerto Madero (good area for restaurants) and Plaza de Mayo (A historical place). Also, along Defensa in the direction of Plaza de Mayo you can find a bunch of places to eat.

Cons: If you are in the room facing Defensa (the street) you better purchase a pair of ear plugs because it can be very noisy, even with the window closed. Buses and cars rumble on the cobble-stoned street all night long so it can be very very noisy, and unless you're someone that can sleep through anything, you may have a hard time falling asleep. The other big con is that the rooms do not have AC, at least our room on the first floor did not. It only had a ceiling fan which, even on the highest setting, did not do much with the heat/humidity of a BA summer. The heat and humidity in BA, as we came to find out, in the summer months are relentless and very unpleasant (On par with Washington, DC and the southeast US). Although it gets a teeny bit cooler in the evening, it is still quite warm and humid so it can be pretty uncomfortable without AC. Other issues that reviewers had: (1) the bathroom was pretty small, but I personally did not have an issue with that; (2) the rooms are sparsely furnished (bed, nightstands and one small dresser), which I really did not have an issue with, albeit a small desk/chair would have been nice.

It really is great place for the San Telmo market, but if you book here you should request a room that does not face the street and beware that, unless it is in fall/winter, the room can get quite stuffy, even with the window opened.
