We thought 4 of us sharing 2 mains meats and 2 sides night not be enough. How wrong we were. We left at least 2/3 of the meat. The menu said 450gm (1 pound) so we presumed it would have a number of bones and very little meat. Nope - probably 12-14 oz of meat.

The meal was very reasonably priced and the Malbec selection was excellent (and again, very reasonably priced).

Don't drink too much or you will take your life into your hands scaling the staircase to the 2nd floor bathroom!

My husband and I enjoyed our dining experience here so much that we made sure to dine one last time before leaving BA. This place is an old butcher shop made into a restaurant. It was recommended by our hotel and we loved the food, service and atmosphere. Locals love it too, which is always a good sign. The portions are huge and sharing the 450gr strip loin with a side dish or two and a bottle of well priced wine was ample and very good value. It's a busy place so make a reservation or show up for the earliest sitting before the usual 10 p.m. dining crowd.

We came across this place on the way from our hotel to Monserrat. We tried to get a walk-in table at around 8pm but was told that no tables were available. We made a booking for a couple of nights later.

The dining room has an old-school feel, lots of bare wood and white linen.

We ordered a steak for my partner and a mixed offal grill for me, with some fries and salads on the side. The waiter raised an eyebrow when we ordered but I didn't take much notice. It became clear when the food arrived.

There was a lot of meat. The steak would've been enough for two, and my mixed grill was even bigger. It was all cooked well, the steak with a lovely char on the outside and perfectly medium inside, each bit of offal having had just the right amount of time on the grill.

The fries were good, but the salad wasn't much more than a bowl of lettuce and cubed cheese. We were well and truly stuffed by the end so we skipped dessert.

Our table was next to a large table of tourists, but even then the service was efficient and attentive. The waitstaff and front-of-house didn't speak a lot of English but with my poor Spanish we got by.

All in all, this was the second-best meat meal that I had in a country known for its meat. Worth a try if you're in the area. Bear in mind, like a lot of places in Argentina it's geared for late dining (10pm or later) and it can be hard to get a walk-in table early. Best to book if you're used to having dinner early in the evening.

My husband ordered a 22oz steak that we split, I ordered the pasta and we split it. Worked out to be just the right a amount. The steaks are huge, so definitely share or split meals if you want to get out with leaving a whole meal on your plate. Doggie bags are not typical in BA so you'll end up leaving the food you don't eat. We saved money and didn't order any drinks (water isn't free like in USA). The waiter was less than pleased with that. The table fee is 5$ so you already have to pay that just to sit down. When we arrived there nobody really greeted us, more of a "what the hell do you want" look. Took a while to place the order, and getting the check took 15 min after we asked him. I know it's not America, but we are guests in your restaurant and your country...acknowledging us would be nice. Especially since the dollar is quite valuable in Argentina right now. Overall food and atmosphere good, rude staff. They don't really season the steaks, but it was a good steak and cut of meat(filet). We never got the oil and balsamic that we asked for with our bread either.
