We stayed for 3 nights at the end of February, and having done the city tour, we were so pleased we stayed in Palermo. This district is mostly residential but the biggest point for us was being able to have endless fantastic restaurant choices within a few blocks walk (I've reviewed some on this site). This is not a touristy area at all which feels really great, but Recoletta, San Telmo and all the other main sights are a cab ride away. Having said that, on our first day, we walked all the way from the hotel, visited the zoo, then to the rose gardens and back.
The room was large and contemporary and well appointed - the only issue being the a/c unit which developed some sort of random ticking/banging. Upstairs there is a tiny roof top 'pool' - it's certainly not big enough to swim in but a pleasant space to spend the last hour of sunlight. There are only 6 loungers up there which was a little bit of an issue with some guests wanting to put their towels down to reserve them, and come back 90 mins later. I think they should have a sign up there discouraging this.
Breakfast was really good - the first time we've had a sort of tasting platter for breakfast - orange juice, a shot of some sort of veg/fruit juice, yoghurt/granola, fruit then eggs cooked to order and bakery basket. Really refreshing to not have a buffet.
The staff were super helpful and spoke great English - they recommended and booked restaurants, called taxis and gave advice on sightseeing.
Best of all, by London standards, a stay here is an absolute bargain - about GBP112 per night.
