The food was excellent - no doubt! The host(s) as well as the appartment was really nice. I really had a good time with nice people and an nice atmosphere. I really liked the idea behind the concept. Eventough its a little highly priced I think its worth it. The only think I have to complain about was the amount of time or least say the breaks between each course. The breaks could have been a little longer and each course could have lasted a while longer before the plates were taken away (eventough they were empty). But other than that - IT WAS PERFECT!

Casa Saltshaker is one of many closed door restaurants in Buenos Aires, homes that are opened up by their chef owners to individuals several nights of the week. Dan and Henry are the hosts of Casa Saltshaker located in their charming Recoleta apartment. They welcome eight guests at a time with a cocktail. We met a fascinating group of advertising professionals, long time travellers, Argentinean and French students and French folks who have travelled over the globe.

Wonderful dinner with highlights being a peanut based soup with some chile spices, potato gnocchi with peruvian spicy sauce and artichokes, grilled squid with 'humita', and a delightful apple butter tarte with home-made cheddar cheese ice cream. Wonderful wine pairs mostly from Mendoza.

Three hours flew by talking about food, living in hostels, the floods in the Iguasu Falls area, martial arts and Henry's work as a Professor of the Tango.

High quality home cooking in a closed door restaurant. Everyone sits at a shared table, and Dan (host) is a pro at getting everybody involved. You'll eat well, meet other travelers, and have fun stories to tell later.

We have visited Casa Saltshaker together with friends. Before you go there - please read their online website to have a clue how it will look like. Then you will never get disappointed :)

+ the hosts take a good care of the atmosphere/comparability of their guests. Everything is set up perfectly in to detail.
+ you are invited to their home, which means you feel different than in a restaurant, more easy going and relaxed.
+ the menu is setup few days before and usually it's not Argentinian cuisine. Be aware of that. After many days of Asado we were actually happy to have some change.
+ the portions are enough and together with wine you have more than enough.
+ don't think you come there to be entertained by the cook. He needs to be in the kitchen at that time :)
+if you meet interesting people, the time is flying !

- The food was served too fast. We had an impression of being rushed. You have 3 hours to have 5 courses. This means you have a new course every half an hour. This tempo is too fast when you are having conversation with the people. We wished, we could have more time to enjoy the food.

Overall, it was a positive experience. You can see that the owners are truly enjoying hosting those dinners.
