While visiting Argentina from the US we decided on an Italian lunch. Close to the Recoleta Cemetary is this restaurant. It was a beautiful day and we decided to sit in the outdoor seating and enjoy the ambiance. We were greeted by "Axel" who was very friendly and spoke English. The menu also describes the dishes in English so we knew what we were ordering. I ordered the Caponola Salad--greens with chicken, fresh parm cheese, olives, bamboo shoots, tomatoes, served with fresh lemon. It was delicious. My husband ordered the spinach ravioli in four cheese sauce. It was excellent as well. The other food that was being served looked good and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We would definitely go back!

My wife and I lived in BA for 10 months last year and tried about 40 restaurants. San Babila quickly became our favorite. San Babila is a family-run Italian restaurant, one of about 10 restaurants on a two-block strip opposite the Recoleta Cemetery and near the weekend craft market on Plaza Francia. We were recruited to the restaurant by a friendly young man who stands out front chatting with passersby. The first time we went it was raining out so we ate indoors. The interior reminded us of trattorias we ate at in Italy, and the food was as good as any we had had in Italy. We ordered the Risotto alla Milanese con ossobuco (saffron risotto with braised veal shank) and Tortelloni di zucca burro e salvia (tortelloni with pumpkin butter and sage). The ossobuca was fall-off-the-bone tender with a wonderful tomato/beef sauce and the saffron risotto was perfect. We had had zucca tortelloni in some excellent Italian restaurants and San Babila’s was first-rate. Wines are available by the glass or bottle (we liked Alamos Reserva Malbec). The meal begins with complimentary bruschetta. After our first meal we asked if the bar had Vin Santo (a desert wine) in stock. They didn’t, but they gave us complimentary glasses of limoncello. We quickly became regulars of the restaurant, returning at least once a week. Occasionally we dined indoors, but usually on the shady patio. The restaurant’s recruiter and staff always remembered us and made us feel like members of the family. It was a wonderful place to eat, and when we get back to BA, San Babila will be the first place we’ll go.

A great find for lunch. San Babila Ristorante is a lovely Italian restaurant located in a strip of patio type restaurants across from the Recoleta cemetery. The savvy young greeter who meets you as you stroll by speaks perfect English and is very helpful. The food and service are great, the prices reasonable and the al fresco atmosphere on the patio delightful. A more diligent pigeon patrol would have been appreciated. We liked it so much we ate there twice in one week.
