“Not Worth the Price”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012

We stayed in the suites and while the room was big and clean, the bathroom had several constant drips from faucets onto the floor so it was always wet. We got no service during our stay so we had to ask for toilet paper several times and attempt to clean up the water on the bathroom floor with a dirty mop.

The kitchen was poorly equipped that we had difficulty making a meal. The complimentary breakfast in the morning at the suites offered only bread and medialunas our first day. The coffee was awful and when we tried the tea, the hot water had brown things floating in it. We went out for breakfast from then on. I know they eventually added hard boiled eggs to the breakfast but we were done.

The staff, while not rude in any way, was not friendly and did not make any kind of effort to make us feel welcome. When we did ask a question about a tour they had posted on the bulletin board they simply said they didn't know and didn't offer any help.

The hostel was always cold, and it being winter when we traveled, it was not a welcoming escape from the chill outdoors.

We stayed in other hostels in Buenos Aires that were much nicer and equal the price. We wouldn't stay here again.

The common theme of this hostel is a general lack of due care and attention. The location is central, the ~19th century house looks beautiful and some of the staff are even helpful, but other than this the hostel has few redeeming qualities.

The shared washrooms seem to have been inspired by either a rusty garden shed or some sort of 1940s prison, as they are built from industrial grade metal siding and are caked in rust and dirt. It is also impossible to lock the doors and the curtains are see through, so you are apt to provide a bit of a show to anyone passing through. "Anyone passing through" turns out to be a lot of people, as the washrooms are shared with the nightclub which is located in the basement. Said nightclub is relatively discreet during the day, but starts to pump out deafening level dubstep and techno beats at about 2-3am until the early morning. A charming surprise to wake up to when you realise the bass speakers are located almost directly underneath the men's dorm.

We met a lady the first day we were there, who was very helpful with maps, information, and things to do, but the rest of the staff were fairly apathetic. The only diligence they managed to show was in making sure you have paid and making sure you've checked out by 10am(so I guess they are loyal employees in reality). The room was not cleaned in the 3 days we were staying there and from the crumbs on the ground when we arrived, I doubt it had been cleaned much sooner before. For the amount they charged, you can do a lot better in Buenos Aires.

We stayed in the Hostel Giarmondo for 5 nights in the suites as there were 4 of us. The room was clean, the bathroom needed a bit of care however the showers were amazing. The staff were very friendly and gave us great advice about where to go and stay. The beds were comfortable. The room had lovely air conditioning. The location is perfect, near local shops and trendy bars and its not noisy at all.

Room Tip: Chose the suites

Half of the knobs on the stove are broken off, the buzzer to the main door is broken, the paper towel holder in the bathroom is broken, all the knobs on the microwave are broken off. Just feels a bit neglected and not super clean. The staff is friendly, but the accomodations are lacking. The bathrooms are also weird, and there really isnt a good way to change out of your clothes so you end up having to walk through the lobby with just your towel.

Read the reviews and have to say - I don't see what the other folks are SO upset about. Unarguably - the location IS great - close enough to transportation to get anywhere ya need and great to walk to and from all parts of Palermo. My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week. We did have a "private room" and the TV didn't work for the first half. . . but - the staff was REALLY nice, friendly, helpful. If I was younger I could enjoy this place a LOT more - the partying Thurs-Sun doesn't start till midnight or later and doesn't stop. That said - we could hide away in our room (not from the music, though, but c'mon - it is a hostel w/ lots of energy). Also - we stored our bags here when we went to Uruguay - great! The staff even helped drop off and (unasked for but very helpful) pick-up our laundry to/from across the street. All in all - as party hostels go - really nice and fun. IF you are looking for something quite or more amenities - not the best place.

We were staying at the Suites close to the Hostal. Is was not very expensive, but the rooms have either no window or face a loud street, the kitchen/breakfast area is depressing and the wi-fi never worked.

When we were to leave the receptionist couldn't find one of my bags in the luggage room. I called the manager when I came back home, and they immediately found the bag. But they would not arrange sending it to me, and even though I offered to pay for the transport myself she has been ignoring my emails and starting answering in spanish though her english is good.

My insurance won't pay the lost luggage because it is the responsibility of the hotal. There are my climbing gear and all the gifts to my relatives, priceless to me :-(...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony but bring earplugs
