After so many continuous days of steak, I was looking forward to some fish and Japanese food. We toured the Japanese gardens and went to the restaurant in the back of the property. We eat a lot of Japanese food at home and so am very familiar with Japanese food and sushi/sashimi. We ordered 3 items: a plate of sushi, sashimi and roll, assorted tempura with salmon and shrimp, and shrimp yakisoba. The tempura was poor; tempura batter should be light and airy. The tempura they served was hard and really overlooked. Some pieces of vegetable were cut so thin they overcooked and other pieces (broccoli) were so large they didn't cook properly. The batter was too thick for tempura. I couldn't finish all the pieces as I didn't want to take a chance on damaging my teeth. The yakisoba was nicely prepared and presented. It had lots of shrimps and veggies but was too saucy. The sushi was quite good. The fish was fresh and the salmon was particularly good but it was expensive.
