“This hotel defines great customer service”

This was our third visit to this hotel. Every member of the staff goes out of his or her way to make your stay enjoyable. It's a relatively small resort, and they get to know you and your needs quickly and they address you by name. Very nice.

Being in a relatively remote area, your dining choices are basically limited to the hotel, which was fine with us because the food is uniformly great. Chef Joel at the Core restaurant is innovative and excellent, and he relishes your enjoyment of his fare. His wait staff are amazing. They are focused like lasers on assuring you an enjoyable meal. The casual dining is good as well. My litmus test is the fruit at the breakfast buffet, particularly the pineapple. If they care, you'll get real fresh fruit instead of cardboard. Here, they care.

We've been in a suite each time, and they are spacious, light, comfortable, and quiet. The little touches, like dimmers on the bed reading lamps, are appreciated.

There is a very well-equipped workout room; one of the best I have seen in a hotel. The spa is an intimate and relaxing place to spend a good part of the day, with its own pool and mini-cabanas and the requisite services. My only gripe about my entire experience at the hotel was that the razors supplied in the men's spa were awful, but that's a mere quibble.

For a relaxing off-the-beaten-path respite, the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain is a great choice. We are looking forward to our next visit.

The hotel is isolated and that is just what I was looking for. They have a great fitness center. My favorite thing about the room is that it was silent and the drapes allowed for complete darkness. My room was basic and it more than sufficed. I spent most of my time at the pool. I wish it was a bit further than the childrens pool. During high season travel dates, I imagine that the pool can be very noisy. The views are very pretty but not nearly as nice as the Four Seasons in Scottsdale. My entire experience was a notch below the Four Seasons but that still puts Dove Mountain in the perfection range. Core's Chef Joel was amazing. He visited my table numerous times to make sure I was satisfied. You absolutely must plan on eating at the restaurant each night. The hotel is very fortunate to have Joel on their roster. The only other thing I want to add is that this is more of a destination resort. No matter what they tell you, it is a 40-50 minute drive to get to anywhere worth visiting in Tucson.

For me it's all about exceeding a persons expectations, well this property did that and more. From "check in" to "check out" everything was spot on! The team members at this property were on the same page no matter time of day or location, they all had the same level of servie....."over the top!" My husband and I had a blast. The golf course was in impeccable shape from tee to green with over the top outside services. Joel Harrington the chef at Core went out of his way to engage each and every guest with his flair for food and style. All in all I would say this is a property you can not miss out on if you're looking for a place that will pamper your every need and want. Certainly a memorable time throughout our entire 4 night stay.

We did spend 4 nights at the Ritz-Carlton over the 4th of July weekend (Thur-Mon).

The resort is in a beautiful location in the Sonoran desert. We did like the attention to detail in designing the hotel and the beautiful landscaping. We arrived Thursday at noon and for the first two days the very very friendly staff provided a level of service with attention to detail and care that we only encountered in first class hotels in Asia before - top of the class!

However, that rapidly changed Saturday as the holiday weekend was in full swing. Of course you would expect with the holiday weekend/busiest travel weekend in the US that the hotel is more populated by people (I was told occupancy rate for Thur/Fri July 01/02 was ~40%, for July 03/04 ~80%). But the level of service did drop to levels that you would hardly expect in a Motel 6. Staff, while still very very friendly, seemed to be overwhelmed by the amount of guests (not a staff issue as the guys running the pool service etc. to their exhaustion cannot be blamed, but definitely a management issue). There was a queue at the pool entrance as they were running out of chairs while the spa pool was empty (and still charging $25 per day; would it be hard to open the spa pool as somehow as a relief?). In addition they had to clean the pool directly at 12:00pm noon on Sunday and were throwing two cups of chlorine directly over our heads and minutes later emptying about 12 large packs of pool salt into the main pool while it was full with guests. Even for a Ritz-Carlton it should not be hard to do pool maintenance either late in the evening or early in the morning.
In addition, servers at the main restaurant developed the habit to properly serve only people who did drink bottles of wine (maybe as the higher the bill the higher the percentage of tip...?).

Strangely, when the crowds did die down again Sunday afternoon, service levels went up again, bartenders and servers even remembered our names and what we had ordered earlier on - we had the feeling of being in a completely different hotel again, back to the 5 star world.

In summary, great place to go, but make sure to go there ONLY IF occupancy rates are way less than 50%!

I rarely write reviews, but sometimes one must make an exception.

For me, either it was exemplary beyond comparison or simply outright dreadful.

The Ritz Dove Mountain knocked it out of the park.

From the location, the beautiful rooms, and their attentive service, we stayed an extra night because leaving proved too difficult.

Summary

We got to the hotel late at night from Los Angeles, and arrived at the Tuscon airport.

Note: It takes approximately 40 minutes to get to the resort from the airport. It is dark. Tucson is known for not having a lot of light fixtures everywhere. When you look to the sky and see the little dipper, that's because of the clear desert sky without any artificial illumination.

We could not see a thing, but did stop at In n Out Burger (on the freeway).

Check-In

Very smooth. Room keys were ready. They pronounced our last names flawlessly. Don't know how. Doors were opened promptly, authentically greeted.

Room

Booked into a suite. Very nice, clean sitting area. Sofa, two chairs, a long coffee table, bathroom, huge flat screen television with a patio on one side. Big bed, small sit down area, huge bathroom (separate jacuzzi tub, glass enclosed stand up shower, and toilet (has a small glass door which you can't see on the opposite side.

Pristine condition. Very clean. Very comfortable. Slight Native American motif.

Food

Great

We originally booked for 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton and extended it to 4......... we had the most amazing time - total rest & relaxation. From the minute you draw up in the car to the minute you leave, your every need is catered for and the staff cannot do enough to make you feel special & welcome.

The ambience of the hotel is one of calm & the service is attentive without being intrusive..... I shall not repeat what has already been said about the service in recent reviews. I would recommend the CORE restaurant under the direction of Chef Joel Harrington who is one very creative chef but also a great character - making time to speak to every guest in the restaurant

If you live close by or fancy a short break then do go to Dove Mountain......... it will be a year before I can return, so don't spoil it !! The Ladies and Gentlemen of the Ritz Carlton were amazing

We spent af few days at the Ritz for my husband's birthday. Everyone on staff knew our names, knew it was his birthday and did everything they could to make us feel special & welcome. We got an upgraded room facing the center pool area and I recommend this view. We sat on our room's balcony, listening to the flutist at sunset and watched people. The room was fabulous, the pillows soft & fluffy and the linens to die for. My only complaint was, they did not replace the dirty glassware. Only wiped them out & put them upside down as if they were clean. Something I would expect at a cheap hotel. We called to get clean glasses and the situation was rectified immediately. Be sure to have a ginger margarita. They are to die for. And have dinner at Core. The service was impeccable, the food delicious and they made our dinner memorable. A fellow diner felt the dinner was so good, it was "sinful"! We had the best experience. We'll be back.
