“It's a Ritz Carlton - anything less would have been disappointing!”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

I stayed here for a business meeting a couple weeks before the Accenture Match Play event. Gorgeous resort, both the hotel itself and the surrounding scenery. Service was impeccable throughout my stay - attentive, gracious, yet not overbearing. Unlike some hotels, the high level of service didn't feel forced. The conference facilities were top-notch and the staff was willing to make any minor change to ensure our event's success. The food was excellent - both the conference food as well as the dinner and breakfast I had at CORE (dinner properly priced, but breakfast slightly overpriced, even for a five-star resort). The view from my room out over the pool deck and into the desert was stunning. One oddity about the room however - it didn't have a proper desk - just a round table somewhat ill-placed in the corner of the room. The room and bathroom were very spacious, but not ostentatious. I wish I had more than one night to stay here - then again, I doubt my personal budget would afford it!

Dove Mountain is a planned community that lies Northwest of Tucson, in the foothills overlooking the city.
The former Ritz Carlton Golf Club, now the Golf Club at Dove Mountain, has been the site of the Accenture Golf Tournament, usually held at the end of February.
The Ritz is well-appointed as you might expect with service deserving of the name.
The rooms are impeccable and its Core Restaurant is delightful.
The pool area sits below the rooms, with canyon walls surrounding the entire complex.
It rivals any resort that Scottsdale or Phoenix has to offer.

Room Tip: Opt for the upgrade. It's worth it.

Executive suite was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom was huge. Room was well appointed and additional needs were promptly and courteously attended to.
Service was excellent and ratio of staff to guest seemed almost one-to-one!
Location is spectacularly beautiful and allowed for full enjoyment of the majestic desolation of Sonoran landscape.
Food at two restaurants we tried was fresh and interesting.

I stayed here recently while attending a John Jacobs Golf School at the golf course. The hotel itself is simply beautiful and the rooms are quite luxurious. I could literally move into the Ritz bathroom. Whoever thought of putting flatscreens in front of the bathtub is a genius. I want one of those at home - someday...

In any event I don't have any major complaints with the hotel, but given some of the places I have stayed and reviewed, I just couldn't give it a higher rating. I think part of the problem was that I had just come from the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa and Ojai just seems to be a much better value for your money. They don't tack on a resort fee at Ojai, which when you don't have a car or a computer, can be very annoying to pay for wifi and valet. Also, Ojai had many more free fitness classes and golf clinics. As prior reviewers have noted, everything at the Ritz is extra.

I generally found the service to be very good and the food was excellent, especially at Core. If you are there on a Friday night the wine-tasting at the Core bar is an excellent value. I loved that they had a simple coffee bar where you could grab breakfast to go.

I suppose the golf club is no longer part of the Ritz, but it is absolutely gorgeous. The service there is wonderful and you can't beat the views from the course. If you want golf lessons, then Glen Griffith is your man. He is an amazing pro! Even if you have never golfed before he can get you up and on the course in one day. Glen alone is worth the trip to the Ritz.

I did have the chance to visit the spa and found it to be "ok", but perhaps I am spoiled :) I thought the treatments were decently priced and after a long day on the golf course you will need that massage. Fortunately they run monthly specials at the spa for slightly reduced prices.

Overall, I would definitely return. There seemed to be some amazing hiking trails adjacent to the property that I would love to try. I would also say that if you are looking for a traditional Ritz design, then you might be surprised. I think this resort looks more like a Four Seasons than a Ritz, which is part of the reason why I liked it....Now if only there were direct flights to New York!

This lovely hotel is tucked away in Dove Mountain, about 30 mins from Tucson airport. The surroundings are picture perfect and the property is very well maintained. Opposed to other reviews of this property, I recently stayed at this Ritz Carlton for a work meeting. The entire staff, from room/catering/concierge/restaurant/av, etc went above and beyond to make our event successful. The rooms were well maintained, clean and very quiet. The food was excellent and if there was a problem, it was fixed without a fuss. Much like other hotels, where small details get lost, the staff here had it all covered and with a smile. Extra big thank you to the concierge, Andrew Torres!

Just came back from our second visit to this beautiful resort. It is a private location at the foothills of local mountains, yet only 20-30 mins. from tons of shopping, restaurants etc. in Tucson. The views are spectacular, immediate landscaping just perfect, the hotel itself is very attractive, and the in-house food at Ignite and Core is super. We went to the spa and enjoyed serval services, all were conducted by true professionals with matching results.

Here is why we didn't rate the hotel excellent. It is a small thing, actually subtle, but we found the service or attitude of some staff sub-par to the rest of our experiences. To be fair, the valet, bell-man, housekeeping and restaurant wait-staff were all great. However, a server at the pool, a very unhappy bartender (he was super busy and alone though), and stoic front desk woman were inconsistent in reflecting a five star hotel.

Again, it was not all, but those noted behaved as though we were an inconvenience or they were doing us a favor for staying at the property. In no way did it "ruin" our experience, just dropped it from being great. I may sound picky, but for the price - and it being a Ritz Carlton property, I expected all to reflect a superior service behavior.

Would we go back ? Yes and hopefully management adjusts the attitude of these few folks.

Room Tip: The Casita Suites are great, just realize they are good walk from the main hotel, but private and be...
