“very good kofte”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

This is a street side cafe/restaurant of some standing, serving kofte and piyaz, no alchohol served here, very traditional, love to call in for lunch every now and then

“Good meatballs but no beer/wine”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

Our friends invited us to join them for dinner at this restaurant on a Sunday evening. The venue is a small facility with several picnic tables and benches outside in addition to indoor seating. Our waiter had trouble understanding our orders but finally got it after several repetitions. (All four of us speak fluent Turkish)
This is basically a meatball (kofte) house where there are few choices like shish kebab but kofte dominates. We also ordered piyaz (cold navy beans in olive oil with vinegar). When we inquired about beer/wine we got a stern NO. They don't serve alcoholic drinks. We all wished we had sat down at the next row of bench seats belonging to Sultan Ahmet Kofteci (Yes they do serve beers/wine)
The koftes tasted super and so did my wife's shish kebab!! No problems with the food quality here.
Bottom line: a no-frills kofte house with amateur-hour service but tasty meat balls. I would not, however, wait in line close to an hour to get in as the urban legend claims for this place.

“Authentic and local grub”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

Staying in Yalikavak it can be hard to find somewhere a little of the beaten track, that feels like an authentic Turkish dining experience. This is that place - and we went back three times in just a few days. They have a small menu, but don't let that put you off. The meatballs, the lamb kebabs, the bread and salad were all delicious, and our English speaking waiter (just graduated from a London university!) was extremely helpful. Try it out if you want to steer away from the run of the mill.

If you're close to yalikavak than you definetly have to eat those meatballs. They serve it with special bread. Don't forget to order "piyaz" as well.
