We returned on Saturday from two wonderful weeks in the Mer-Can Story in Yalikavak. The Mer-Can is a lovely place to stay. the apartment was clean, there was plenty space in both the bedroom and the living room and we had a fantastic sea view from the balcony.
The staff in the Mer-Can are very friendly and helpful. The food is also good ( I recommend the fried prawns - delicious!). The beach is straight across the road and there is no charge for the sunbeds.
Yalikavak is the perfect place for a quiet relaxing holiday. There are lots of good quality restaurants and the pace is really laid back.
We will definitely stay in the Mer-Can when we go back to Yalikavak.

Just back on Saturday last from Yalikavak. Stayed at the Mer Can Story for two whole weeks. We found it to be a right little gem of a place. There are 20 Apartments in total. We had ground floor No 3 Apt which was very convenient. Just beside the pool and a few paces to the lovely shingle beach at Yalikavak. The staff here are really very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Everyday they would say good morning and shake hands, we got hugs when we left Saturday. Mitten the Manager was particularly helpful, friendly and efficient. They work very long hours and dont seem to tire. The food at Mer Can is really quite nice but we liked to experience other restaurants in the area. After all they are on your doorstep literally here in Yalikavak. Dedes was my favourite though. We took two trips. One to Ephesus/Pamukkale (2 days). Brilliant trip, but quite exhausting as the bus journey is quite long. The second was a 1 day trip to Dalyan, beautiful beach on the med. Mud baths, riverboat cruise including lunch and stop off to see Giant Turtles. Yalikavak is just a lovely quiet place if you want to switch off and unwind. We took the Dolmus to Bodrum one evening, had a fab meal by the Marina, but as Bodrum was just so busy, we took bus back to Yalikavak and Peace. Unfortunately I caught a cold and subsequently chest infection which I am sure I got from the Air Conditioning on the Coach to Dalyan and back. The outside temp was 36 and the guide said AC was up at its highest. Luckily the Pharmacy in Yalikavak could provide me with medication till I got home. The only other downside is the Toilet arrangement in Turkey. Toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet but there are bins provided for this purpose, took a bit of getting used to it though. We also found the prices quite high in Turkey for average everyday things and souvenirs, but managed a few bargains at the lovely market on Thursday in Yalikavak. The cleaners came into clean our apt every 4 days, fresh towels and bed sheets. Toilet bin was emptied daily though....Now that we know how it works it wouldnt put me off going back to Turkey and will definitely go back to Mer Can Story, thats if apartments are available as they are few and in demand.

Room Tip: Small complex so all apartments are well located

Absolutely loved this venue as it is positioned practically on the beach. So peaceful with wonderful views, nice friendly staff and lovely food. This has been so refreshing! Very few Irish or English people mosty turkish and danish. A small fishing village with about 50 restaurants all around the harbour and beach. Fresh fish and steak bbq everywhere. No hassling to get you into their restaurants. No loud music and teenagers what a blessing! Lots of stray dogs and cats though.
Very romantic we had candlelight dinner on the beach with the water only inches from our feet. All sunbeds are free on the beach and around the pool. Nice large pool - no one hangs out there everyone is one the beach as it there is always a breeze there. No loud music so you can read and hear the surf. I will definately come back before this gets too many tourist. Turkish dancing (belly dancing) every week and bbq .

i stayed at the Mercan in September 2010 with my wife and friends over our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we normally stay in Icemler which we love but fancied a change but as we love Turkey and my sister loves Yalikavik we thought we would give it a go. We were suppriced with the location as it is on the beach and the bars within minutes away are all fantastic and friendly and the food is excellent. The upside of the place is that you dont get hassle from shopowners whatsoever which makes a change but the prices in shops are not anywere near as cheap as in other major resorts in Turkey and I was suppriced even in the market that the prices were very expensive for what you were buying.
The Mercan itself was very nice but i have to say that the maid service was poor and we had to ask to have our bins emptied and we did have to clean the kitchen area with bleach. The food at the Mercan is very good especially the snacks and salads but to eat there for a meal was very expensive and always check the price of the wine as we paid well over the odds one night. I thought the holiday overall was very good and its often what you make it, i wouldnt nit/pick but Yalikavik and the Mercan was a quiet and enjoyable break but it is expensive to stay there if you book direct. Just one last thing Yalikavik has lots of stray dogs that congrigate on the beach front of a night which is something i have never encountered anywere which was annoying.

Been going to Yalikavak for the last 4 years and stopping in the mercan story, wouldn't go anywhere else. Great location, in the town center (not too noisy) great resterants... What more could you want?
Great staff and maids. Couldn't fault anything. I would reccomend it to anyone.
Cant wait to go back in August!

we've just returned from a fortnight at the mercan story, although the appartments were clean and tidy, we were not impressed with the maid service, she changed the bins everyday but the rooms and towels were cleaned and changed just once the whole time we were there. Also we found that the rooms were quite noisy at night with the 3 Brothers bar next door and the mercan story bar playing music until all hours, and also there is a pack of around 10 dogs roaming at night which also can be annoying.

The worst part of the holiday for us was the transfer from the coach to the mini-bus, the driver spent hour and half looking for the hotel and never found it so he just got our luggage out of the back and told us to leave, also travelling on the same bus were two elderly people one of which was disabled thankfully they had been there before and could recognise the area, but being 4.0clock in the morning it was difficult to know just exactly where we were. Just not good enough, we would never go Thomas Cook again.

these apts are in a perfect location but they need a good clean and update several guests bought bleach to clean the rooms . its such a shame because the beach is great and the resturants are superb but the accomadation lets it down not cleaned regularly. it could be perfect if it was updated and cleaned properly the mercan resturant which is run by another family is first class this place is ideal if you dont want much to do. if you like lots to do day and night then i would look else were because this isnt for you its about 3 hours from epheses and pamukale its not worth hiring a car because there isnt anything close by the water park is poor this is the first time we havent hired a car for us the location was perfect but the hotel could of been better so i would recommend resort but not hotel on the above basis
