“All round good hotel, ideal location away from party centre”
Reviewed September 21, 2009

Very friendly small hotel, away from the main centre of Hisaronu which was a godsend (too many late night party places with booming music to enjoy peace and surroundings!) - friendly helpful staff - delicious selection of local dishes in evening buffet - good location to discover the local area, regular dolmus buses on main road nearby - enjoyed a couple of relaxing afternoons by the pool - loved the pet rabbits - rooms are basic & clean, may feel bit cramped with 3 and sofabed for teenage daughter was bit small but then the nice hot weather and beautiful surroundings mean you're outside and outandabout!

Stayed here for two weeks at end of Aug 2009.

What it is - a no frills, good value hotel with adequate facilities including restaurant, swimming pool, bar, entertainment. Room was small but functional and cleaned daily.

What it's not - is a five star, luxury spa resort!

Went with wife and 12 year old daughter and (as per travel company's invoice) cost for the accommodation and half board was £302 for our two week stay. That's just over £7 per person per day! So look, it's great value for what it is.

I liked it's position, on the main Olu Deniz -Fethiye road and a 20 -25 minute leisurely stroll in to Hisonoru, passing a number of shops and restaurants. But it's not Blackpool nor Marmaris - so I was pleased when greeters from restaurant's gently enquired if you'd like to step in rather than the Marmaris approach of harrassment and kidnapping!!

Back to Monte Verde. Breakfast/Evening meal food was OK but unimaginative. The food from the pool snack bar was good. We ate out a few times - Sugar Garden, Friar Tuck and the Chinese all good value at around £12- £18 per head for two courses including drinks.

The hotel operates a bar tab system. You order food/drinks and sign for it - like many UK hotels. I decided to pay the tab off every other day so I didn't have a shock at the end of two weeks (a previous experience) - however, I did keep a check on exactly what I ordered and compared it to what I was billed. There were a number of guest complaints about the size of their tab. I found the bill to be correct down to the last lira.

My own view is that there's no organised scams - just simple and genuine mistakes as the bar people either mis-hear or mis-type room numbers. Also, guest could say the wrong room number too. Moral of story is to check what your signing for and pay the tab off regularly. Top Tip - the hotel does keep all the receipts at reception - if you have a tab query ask to see your signed tab receipts. The bar and receptionist staff were very personable and friendly - lovely in fact!

The pool area was fine. Sunloungers were in demand and guests reserved them early in the day in the usual Germanic style - a towel!

Whilst I found the entertainment ranged from amusing (Hi-De-Hi style) it was annoying sometimes when I wanted to be left alone to chill. That said, Erol and Sonia - who were in charge of entertainment matters - worked tirelessly and others seemed to like it.

Our room was disappointingly small, however, my sister and family had a huge room. Luck of the draw I guess (plus we paid as 2 x adults and a child where as sis was 3 x adults).

My 12 year old daughter slept on a bed in the window alcove - it was simply too small and she wasn't able to stretch out completely. I asked twice for an alternative room (and was happy to pay) but was told there was no room. I wasn't convinced. Any how, it didn't spoil the holiday - we hardly spent any waking time there.

The room was cleaned efficiently daily inc. fresh towels and bed-linen changed weekly. No issues at all here - hygiene was good all round the hotel. Another issue was having no balcony - again luck of the draw. This restricted our ability to dry breach towels etc.

There was a guests library in reception - people left and took books - this was handy!

Evening entertainment was varied - from karaoke (no - not the call to prayers - more about that later), to belly dancing and a fire dance show. Actually - the latter two were OK.

Top tip - don't pay for the BBQ - it's not worth it. Just go for the usual restaurant food and the Turkish Belly dancing will follow at no extra cost (actually it's a lass from Lancashire !!). Also, don't get persuaded to pose for photo's by the resident Lord Litchfield. 1) It's expensive 2) He get you to get into cringing "poses" even Olan Mills would dare ask you to do.

The hotel is well placed at the quieter end of Ovacik. It's less than 10 mins walk to the Aqua Park (worth a trip) and whilst the road can be busy it was more the speed of the nutty drivers than the volume of traffic - but there are pavements so it's as kid safe as in the UK in that respect. Lots of sleeping policemen too which helps.

The dolmus can be hailed down any where on the road, you'll here them toot as they approach you to see if you want them to stop (I wish bus drivers in the UK would do that - some hope eh?!).

Journey to Fethiye on dolmus takes about 15-20 mins and to Olu Deniz it's about 10-15 mins. ...and the 9/10 dolmus's are spanking new - very nice!

With Turkey being predominantly Muslim there are two mosques on the main road with one close to the hotel. Depending on where your room is you will get to hear the daily calls to prayer. My take on this is "be tollerant". When in Rome and all that. It passes soon enough but can be a drag in the morning.

There is a "fitness room" with massage / spa facilties etc but it seemed expensive compared to (say) the Orca Hotel 5 mins down the road.

Our hol was booked last minute and, for me, we got excellent value for money. It's not 5 start but it's not a hovel either - far from it. I'd go again in the same circumstances and also recommend to friends on the basis its a 2/3 star hotel.

You get what you pay for in life - in this case I think we got a good value deal.

Very good hotel. Very clean. Well looked after pool. Doesn't feel crowded even if the hotel was full. You don't feel really hot as you would do in Oludeniz valley as Ovacik is higher and has a nice breeze. Still couple of minutes walk from Hisaronu where all the night buzz, numereous restaurants and shops are. Oludeniz is 5mins with minubus which stops just in front of the hotel. Very near couple of supermarkets. Nice staff. Very delicious Turkish food! thanks for the best chef around. Good entertainment, Turkish nite etc.
