Arrived at about 5.30pm, myself, wife and adult daughter. We were shown to our room by one of the restaurant staff, who didn't speak English, so when we entered the room and found twin beds and a sofa bed I wasn't best pleased. We had paid for three adults, is it too much to expect that we would all get a bed. The sofa bed wasn't even made up. 2 hand towels, 2 bath towels, 2 drinking glasses, 2 chairs on the veranda, its as though they didn't know, or care, three of us were coming. We met another family, Dad, son (about 15) and daughter (about 13) and they had a room with a double bed and a sofa bed, figure that one out. When we rang reception all he could say was that they were all standard rooms.
The following day the maid eventually arrived at 5.30pm, then 4.30 the next day, and so it went on. If you fancy an afternoon siesta forget it.
Breakfast, 2 hot items, boiled eggs and either fried potatoes or scrambled eggs. 2 cereals. The rest was the usual continental fare, black and green olives, cucumber, tomatoes, salami, goats cheese and a selection of jams and honey, all open to the elements and various wildlife. We didn't eat in the hotel for dinner.
The lads working the restaurant tried to be cheerful but don't speak very good English. The restaurant manager, well what can I say that hasn't already been said. I even tried my limited Turkish which usually goes down well with other Turks, if only for trying, but he just walked straight past not even acknowledging that I’d spoke. Ignorant does come close.
My wife and I are currently nursing ear infections, I cant say 100% it was the pool, but I have my suspicions.
Location is OK, other hotels are just as well situated, others are worse.
After 5 holidays in Turkey I doubt we will go back , I certainly wouldn't go back to this hotel, the resort is really nice, spoilt by far higher prices than when we last went. Now the prices are the same as most European countries I think we will try elsewhere.
If you are traveling as a couple you probably wont have some of the issues we had, but, if there are three of you then beware.

Having read mixed reviews of this hotel, did not know what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel looks nice, the staff work exceptionally hard and it is kept extremely clean. The waiters and cleaners do not stop working. Yes the bar manager is not the happiest soul, but he comes round if you are friendly, and was very good with my children. The other waiters more than make up for him. There was music by pool but it was not constant and never too loud.

With regard to the no food/drink rule, we never had problem and took in own stuff (in bags) crisps, drinks etc- kept it in room. I would not have sat round pool with it as can imagine that would be frowned upon.

Lunches were lovely by pool, breakfast was ok, plenty of it. Did not eat dinner at hotel, but did do Turkish BBQ which was fun, and food was good.

Sun beds were taken early and sometimes people did not turn up to their beds until after lunch- when this happened the bar staff took towels off and let us have beds. Otherwise we just got up early like everyone else! Our room was fairly near bar but glazing is good and never disturbed us.

The location is perfect, a tiny walk to shops/restaurants & beach, best restaurants by far are Oyster Residence (not for children), Buzz Bar & Toscana. We stuck mainly to these three. Best to go upstairs at Buzz Bar, you will need to book but lovely chilled atmosphere & best cocktails in Olu Deniz. Downstairs equally lovely, brilliant menu & service, also real coffee!

Would recommend Sugar Beach & Billly's Beach on other side of lagoon. Get numbers from hotel and they will come and collect you and bring you back free of charge! Got a pedalo from Billy's Beach and saw Loggerhead turtles which was a treat.

Olu Deniz beach is beautiful, lovely clear water but big waves and pebbles so not great for kids. I loved swimming there though.

Had lovely Turkish Bath at Sky Spa (near Azda) and aromatherapy massage for only £20 altogether and my husband did the paragliding with Easy Riders and loved it.

Will be coming back to hotel definitely.

Just returned from the Mavruka Hotel on 8th Aug 09 & although we had a great holiday we had a horrendous time with the management. Read further for details.
The hotel is fairly new & nice & clean but there is an issue with the hygiene in the open restaurant as the exposed food was inundated with flies etc.
The Management of the hotel is the main issue for concern. They speak little or no English & so are not able to understand & resolve any issues. One day we required an early breakfast as we were going on an excursion. On enquiring about this we were told this was not possible, however there was a notice in the rooms saying this could be arranged. On questioning this we were told that this was an old policy!
On our last night we decided to settle out bill before we went out to dinner. We had a big shock when the bill was produced because we were being charged for many more items than we had purchased. On questioning this we were told that we must have had them – they were items of drink that we don’t even drink!. We had very little on our bill (when purchasing items from the bar, it was put on a tab for your room) as the prices at the bar were extortionate. We asked for the top copies of the receipt to see who had signed for these items. The management would not accept our explanation that we had not incurred this bill. This argument took almost an hour & at this time there was a senior management sitting at reception watching TV but didn’t get involved. He was a very tall chap that we saw in the restaurant most mornings. Eventually the senior bar manager managed produced some of the receipts which had somebody else’s signature on it. This proved it wasn’t ours. We then went to pack our suitcases for the journey home. As soon as we left our room & headed to reception, the tall manager who had been watching TV was hovering outside our room & entered as we were leaving. We waited in reception for our taxi & he then came running to us accusing us of stealing some bed sheets & demanded we open our cases. At first we refused as we could not believe what was happening! But as we had nothing to hide we did & he went through our cases & found nothing & didn’t even apologise for doing this. The taxi driver & several tourists were witnesses to this. I went over to them to explain who were being treated & to check their bills on departure as mistakes like this may happen to them also. The senior bar manager was there too & when he saw my son talking to the tourists he went up behind him & KICKED him. We had to stop our son fighting back as we are not that type of people & do not resort to violence. We just want to highlight that these people do not know to look after their customers & it’s such a shame because the hotel itself was nice. We have travelled all over the world & have never been treated in this manner. Who would want to steal bed sheets that are used day in day out. We think this was done because we were right about the bar bill. I would go to Olu Deniz again but NEVER at this hotel. This management need to look at their behaviour & make drastic changes – like LEAVE!!!

First the plus points....This hotel is spotless, the air con is silent making for a solid nights sleep, great location, great pool.
Now on to the not so good which sadly is a longer list....
Read the reviews about the bar manager and they are all so true. He is grumpy, charmless and views everyone with contempt, even accusing clients of cheating him when he makes a mistake of writing wrong room numbers! The bar staff treat the sound system as their own personal disco blaring out loud music (mid afternoon). I asked them on several occasions to please lower the volume as trying to have a conversation was impossible without shouting. They turned it down by the tiniest amount and then as soon as i returned to my seat, it was turned up again. Several other people complained that the music was too loud but again were simply ignored.
The mentality at breakfast time was incredibly petty. My partner tried to get a coffee at 2 minutes to 8a.m. and was told it was not available until exactly 8a.m, the waiter counted down on his watch to the second before switching the coffee machine on. We actually saw a 5 year old child put a piece of bread into the toaster being shouted at as it was 10 a.m , the toaster was then switched off! The mother complained to the hotel manager who reiterated that it was policy that no food would be served after 10a.m.
We had arrived at the hotel at 6a.m to find my daughters bed had not been made up. We asked that the bed was made as we would like to sleep for a couple of hours after a long night of travelling, this didn't happen until 4p.m in spite of repeated requests.
I was told to open my bag for inspection as i had brought in some turkish delight to bring home and no food was allowed into the hotel. I refused and told them that they would have to accept my explanation that 4 large boxes of sweets were not going to be consumed that evening!
It is such a great shame that the management and staff have such an attitude problem, with the one exception of Sonny who works in the outside bar, as the Turkish people we met in Olu Deniz were so hospitable.
This hotel needs to clear out the management who clearly have no interest and send the remaining staff on training courses in customer service. This will be a great hotel once that has been remedied.

Being that this is our third time to O.D, we are well accustomed to Turkish people. I have never come across such disgruntled management as here. Everything was an effort, Be prepared for a real eye opener, particualarly if you have children.Dont expect children to play in the pool if they are on holiday they might splash the couples that sit on the side, who happen to choose to go on holidays during childrens holiday breaks and expect an adult environment. The manager used threatening behaviour towards a child, during an incident told a family that he did not want children or families there. Its like getting past the the Gestapo with bringing in food & drinks. witnessing incidents of being searched. Over priced bar prices encouraged this resort. The old man behind the bar added to this atmosphere, not the youngsters who appeared to be afraid of him. Arriving at 5 in the morning our boys rooms were on the other side of the hotel and were given a double not twin as asked. Very bad room management on change over. Reception staff were not bothered at all. Many complaints here. Thomas Cook reps aware of the managers attitude and had complaints about him. The hotel is beautiful and clean but definitely lacked the usual charm of the Turkish people and left a bad taste. My honest view would to replace the manager immediately and put some staff in with a bit of personality and then the hotel would be perfect. Meanwhile please dont pass this off as a family hotel.

We have just arrived back 1.08.09 after spending 2 weeks here. Travelled with my partner and 6yr old son. Overall, this hotel suited us for our needs. We stayed B&B. We are well travelled and our honest opinion of this hotel was it fine for B&B. However, the breakfast isn't the best you'll have. It's the very basic breakfast that we consider they can get away with. It's also the same everyday! Don't despair, as around the corner you can have plenty of lavish breakfasts if you choose too. Obviously it can become costly but does break up the same ole breakfast. We had lovely pancakes and full English Breakfasts, on a few occassions.

Things that annoyed us:
On arrival at 2am, our son's sofabed wasn't made up! So, requesting linen was annoying! Then having to make the bed up yourself was a liberty! But hey ho, we didn't make a fuss...(not like me)!

Unfortunately, we are becoming very German minded about laying towels out before 9am! Annoying and true! I witnessed it! Couldn't believe it. I laid next to empty beds for 6hrs, while they went off to the market and then had there reserved beds on arrival back! How rude is that?!

The no food or drink policy from outside! We were never caught and you'll understand why people do it as the snacks & drinks are a tad pricey compared to outside the hotel. But that's always the way.

Breakfast isn't great. I hate seeing flies but as breakfast is served outside, it's difficult to keep them away.

Not enough sunbeds..

Paying for the safe

Some staff unsmiley but when they do smile, it makes a difference!

Onto...The things we enjoyed:

Location of hotel is excellent, walking distance to beach/bars & restaurants

Every meal we had was fantastic

Sugar Beach

Blue Lagoon

Jeep Safari (you must go prepared with water guns) or just get soaked!

6 Island boat trip

Copacabana great entertainment and child friendly, we laughed sooo much!

Free aircon

Cocktails

Sunshine everyday was the best !

Overall, we had a relaxing 2 week holiday and would return to the same hotel and resort.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for!

Chill out!
