“what a fabulous hotel and resort”
Reviewed August 12, 2009

arrived at Karbel hotel on 20th July 2009 with my husband and two teenage daughters (16 and 13) had read lots of reviews before we left and our only concern was being put in the basement rooms, but these fears came to nothing as our two rooms with balconys were side by side in a central block with a beautiful bouganvillea covered coutyard in the centre of all the apartments. We were half board and found the food in the restaurant to be delicious with plenty of variety. We especially enjoyed bbq nights on a Wednesday. The evening entertainment was also good fun, belly dancer, traditional turkish dancers, circus night etc. We used the lower pool as my brother was also on this holiday with his 2 year old daughter and this pool was easier for her to get in and out of, but my 16 yr old loved the main pool where there was water polo and music at the bar, a bit livelier, so all tastes catered for. A session with the on-site photographer Omar is definately worth it, free of charge but then you pay for any photos you order, they are reasonably priced and he took some amazing pictures throughout the holiday. A walk down the main street to the beach is good fun, plenty of shops and bars to choose from, our favourite was definately The Buzz Bar on the beach, go upstairs and relax on the big cushions with cocktails and watch the sunset, a really chilled out place, we did eat out a couple of times in the town all the restaurants are great so just pick what you like, tried the Tukish pizza place at lunchtime, go upstairs you'll be surprised ! Booked trips with Sky Sports, can defo recommend the jeep safari, we had so much fun, be prepared to get wet and muddy, we saw so much of inland Turkey and the people in the villages we drove through are so friendly, the kids all loved it and we would do this trip again, paragliding also an amazing experience for all the family and we did a boat trip, small boat with 20 people onboard plenty of room to relax and excellent food at luchtime. Also we all had a tukish bath, including all the children, this was an experience not to be missed, great fun and very relaxing. My daughters both want to come here again, the staff at the Karbel are so friendly and will do anything for you, all in all good all round value for money

The Hotel Karbel doesn't look much from the outside but once you get in to the hotel walkways and see the beautiful hibiscus flowers and smell the honeysuckle, you feel that you are somewhere a bit special. Myself and my partner stayed for one week at the start of August and had a fantastic, relaxed time. The main highlight of our stay was the lovely staff who always had a smile to offer and a joke to share. Omer, the on site photographer, is wonderful! He took some great pictures of us in the hotel grounds.

The rooms were very clean and light, despite it looking from the journey to the room that we were going to get one of the notorious 'dungeon rooms'! Our room overlooked the smaller pool and the mountains. My only slight complaint was that in our room, we didn't have anywhere to sit other than the bed or the chairs on the balcony, which was scorching in the August heat!

The pools were very clean and there were plenty of beds available around the larger pool, which was slightly louder than the small pool. We prefered to use the smaller pool, but had to get up and sit outside at around 9ish to actually get a bed, as so many people leave towels on their beds and vanish into thin air! The pool bar was great and offered a wide range of snacks and drinks. We only stayed B&B and found there was a good selection of food available. Each day there is a special, from eggs to pancakes.

When you arrive, you are given a card to use to purchase your food and drinks around the pool which is great as you don't need to carry your money around. However, keep an eye on the bill as it mounts up very quickly.

The location is fantastic as it is right by the main street with lots of bars and resteraunts to choose from. You should try Sultan Ahmet's by the beach. We had a 'desti kebab' which is like a gorgeous chicken stew. It is cooked in a clay pot that is delivered to your table surrounded by flames! The waiters then crack the pot and serve your meal - it was sooooo nice! Bella and Gusto on the beach front is also really good for Italian food. After your meal, visit the beach where you'll find bean bags to sit on and watch the sea wash onto the shore.

Overall, it was a fantastic holiday which was made really special by the friendly people that looked after us at the Hotel Karbel.

Just returned from my stay at the Karbel Hotel with my wife. The Karbel hotel is a great hotel with attentive and friendly staff. Everyone is so helpful.

The rooms are basic but very clean and well maintained. The gardens are beautiful as is the swimming pools. The location of this hotel is perfect. Its at the top of the main street and is a 5 minute walk to the beach. Perfect.

A great hotel, quiet and relaxing. Great for families and couples.

Just returned from 11 nights half board at the Karbel and I have to say thay overall the hotel and holiday were excellent. The staff were without exception hospitable and friendly, and the rooms (we had 2 ) cleaned every day by very efficient cleaners.
The food at breakfast was perfectly satisfactory although for some may be a little limited. The range of food in the evening was much greater with some superb salads and usually several main meal choices to suit most tastes. The desserts weren't bad either!

The accomodation blocks were well designed in limited space with plenty of foliage providing privacy. The rooms were on the small size but not unexpected for a 3 star rating.

Olu Deniz itself is quite lively with plenty of bars and restaurants, and there are many activities for those inclined. Be sure to book down the street with one of the agencies rather than through your tour rep at the hotel - you have been warned!

There is a decided lack of sand on the beaches around this coast which may be a drawback for certain holiday makers. And be ready to be sold to at every turn by the eager shop keepers and restaurant owners!

Overall: hotel 9/10, resort 8/10.

Just returned from two weeks at the Karbel with our two daughters (20 and 18) and found everything just great. There are two pools, we preferred the smaller pool but found it difficult to get sunbeds sometimes. Sunbeds were always available at the larger pool though. Management did remove towels from sunbeds and that did work to prevent people leaving towels on beds until late morning or lunchtime (if they turned up at all). The staff are really fantastic, very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very clean and the gardens fantastic. Our room was great, the air conditioning was a must as it was over 40 degrees on many days. The shower cubicle was very small, my 6'2 broad shouldered husband had to leave the door open as he couldnt use the shower with the door closed. The rest of us didnt have a problem though. We were half board and found the food ok but lacking in variety and a bit plain four our liking. The BBQ and Sunday Roast were the best although my daughter is now a fan of the Goulash - we all loved the soups, definitely worth a try. If you dont like chicken you will struggle and veggies will have a very boring time.
We did talk to people who had been asked to spend the first night in the Karbel Beach due to over booking at the Karbel, but we didnt have that problem. Likewise we talked to people who had been offered the "dungeon rooms" but didnt meet anyone who was actually staying in them - rumour had it that they had stopped using them except for emergency. If offered one I would refuse to have it.

This was our first time to Turkey and we were very impressed. We used the Dolmas bus (about £1.20 ) to get out and about which was clean, cheap and easy - so dont be afraid to try that. All in all a really great holiday. Enjoy

Just returned for a 2 week break at the Karbel Hotel, and felt it was right to let people know about this gem of a hotel.
We arrived at about 2am and were shown to room 969, we were a little concerned as we were taken downstairs to what seemed to be a basement room!! I asked the porter & he said no this is a new room! I was actually really suprised when we opened the door, we had a lovely spacious room with a double bed, sofa bed, a small balcony overlooking the gardens & a very clean modern bathroom. I think we landed on our feet here!
The hotel itself is beautiful, the grounds & gardens are very well kept & I dont think a single day passed where the cleaners / gardners were not hard at work.
Our cleaner was lovely, she looked after us, decorated the beds with fresh flowers & shaped the towels in to hearts. She even realised it was my boyfriends birthday & put the cards on the bed & decorated it especially. We tipped her about 10TYL for 2 weeks (which is about £4).
The breakfast in the hotel was fine, it was a bit repetative, but this is the same in all hotels, they cater for everyone really, with a selection of bread/eggs/cheese/ham/cereal etc, and on a Wed/Thurs they do pancakes and on a Fri they do ommeletes.
The hotel operate a card payment for all drinks/food purchased in the hotel, but be sure to check after a few days as this soon build up! we paid ours off twice weekly to be sure of not having a huge bill at the end of the holiday!
We mainly sunbathed at the quiet pool, the only problem was with actually getting a sun bed!!! EVERYONE was reserving beds between 7-8am, which was unfair as sonetimes they did not come to the pool until 10-11am!
We decided that if we cant beat them we would have to join them, so we started putting our towels down before breakfast too! although a few times the hotel manager removed the towels! you have been warned!
There are loads of lovely restaurants, some that I would reccomend are TURKISH PIZZA (next to the Karbel Hotel), ANFORAS (next to Azda), the SECRET GARDEN (down the side street & CAPTAIN HOOKS (on the main strip).
All in all the staff are so friendly at this hotel, and the hotel is in a PERFECT location, so I would highly reccomend that you give it a try.
