“Great Hotel - Very Friendly and helpful staff”
Reviewed August 10, 2009

Just returned from my stay at the Karbel Hotel with my wife. The Karbel hotel is a great hotel with attentive and friendly staff. Everyone is so helpful.

The rooms are basic but very clean and well maintained. The gardens are beautiful as is the swimming pools. The location of this hotel is perfect. Its at the top of the main street and is a 5 minute walk to the beach. Perfect.

A great hotel, quiet and relaxing. Great for families and couples.

Just returned from 11 nights half board at the Karbel and I have to say thay overall the hotel and holiday were excellent. The staff were without exception hospitable and friendly, and the rooms (we had 2 ) cleaned every day by very efficient cleaners.
The food at breakfast was perfectly satisfactory although for some may be a little limited. The range of food in the evening was much greater with some superb salads and usually several main meal choices to suit most tastes. The desserts weren't bad either!

The accomodation blocks were well designed in limited space with plenty of foliage providing privacy. The rooms were on the small size but not unexpected for a 3 star rating.

Olu Deniz itself is quite lively with plenty of bars and restaurants, and there are many activities for those inclined. Be sure to book down the street with one of the agencies rather than through your tour rep at the hotel - you have been warned!

There is a decided lack of sand on the beaches around this coast which may be a drawback for certain holiday makers. And be ready to be sold to at every turn by the eager shop keepers and restaurant owners!

Overall: hotel 9/10, resort 8/10.

Just returned from two weeks at the Karbel with our two daughters (20 and 18) and found everything just great. There are two pools, we preferred the smaller pool but found it difficult to get sunbeds sometimes. Sunbeds were always available at the larger pool though. Management did remove towels from sunbeds and that did work to prevent people leaving towels on beds until late morning or lunchtime (if they turned up at all). The staff are really fantastic, very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very clean and the gardens fantastic. Our room was great, the air conditioning was a must as it was over 40 degrees on many days. The shower cubicle was very small, my 6'2 broad shouldered husband had to leave the door open as he couldnt use the shower with the door closed. The rest of us didnt have a problem though. We were half board and found the food ok but lacking in variety and a bit plain four our liking. The BBQ and Sunday Roast were the best although my daughter is now a fan of the Goulash - we all loved the soups, definitely worth a try. If you dont like chicken you will struggle and veggies will have a very boring time.
We did talk to people who had been asked to spend the first night in the Karbel Beach due to over booking at the Karbel, but we didnt have that problem. Likewise we talked to people who had been offered the "dungeon rooms" but didnt meet anyone who was actually staying in them - rumour had it that they had stopped using them except for emergency. If offered one I would refuse to have it.

This was our first time to Turkey and we were very impressed. We used the Dolmas bus (about £1.20 ) to get out and about which was clean, cheap and easy - so dont be afraid to try that. All in all a really great holiday. Enjoy

Just returned for a 2 week break at the Karbel Hotel, and felt it was right to let people know about this gem of a hotel.
We arrived at about 2am and were shown to room 969, we were a little concerned as we were taken downstairs to what seemed to be a basement room!! I asked the porter & he said no this is a new room! I was actually really suprised when we opened the door, we had a lovely spacious room with a double bed, sofa bed, a small balcony overlooking the gardens & a very clean modern bathroom. I think we landed on our feet here!
The hotel itself is beautiful, the grounds & gardens are very well kept & I dont think a single day passed where the cleaners / gardners were not hard at work.
Our cleaner was lovely, she looked after us, decorated the beds with fresh flowers & shaped the towels in to hearts. She even realised it was my boyfriends birthday & put the cards on the bed & decorated it especially. We tipped her about 10TYL for 2 weeks (which is about £4).
The breakfast in the hotel was fine, it was a bit repetative, but this is the same in all hotels, they cater for everyone really, with a selection of bread/eggs/cheese/ham/cereal etc, and on a Wed/Thurs they do pancakes and on a Fri they do ommeletes.
The hotel operate a card payment for all drinks/food purchased in the hotel, but be sure to check after a few days as this soon build up! we paid ours off twice weekly to be sure of not having a huge bill at the end of the holiday!
We mainly sunbathed at the quiet pool, the only problem was with actually getting a sun bed!!! EVERYONE was reserving beds between 7-8am, which was unfair as sonetimes they did not come to the pool until 10-11am!
We decided that if we cant beat them we would have to join them, so we started putting our towels down before breakfast too! although a few times the hotel manager removed the towels! you have been warned!
There are loads of lovely restaurants, some that I would reccomend are TURKISH PIZZA (next to the Karbel Hotel), ANFORAS (next to Azda), the SECRET GARDEN (down the side street & CAPTAIN HOOKS (on the main strip).
All in all the staff are so friendly at this hotel, and the hotel is in a PERFECT location, so I would highly reccomend that you give it a try.

Stayed at the Karbel hotel for two weeks at the end of June. Upon arriving we found out we were staying in one of the dungeon rooms we told them straight away that we weren't staying in one of those rooms and so was upgraded to the Belchan Deluxe just up the road for two nights. Couldn't blame the staff it wasn't their fault and they couldn't do enough for us. Our two nights in the Belchan Deluxe were very enjoyable but we couldnt wait to go back to the Karbel as we had family staying there. Upon returning back after two nights we were shown to our new room, we were very pleased with the room nice bathroom very spacious and gardens are lovely round hotel. Breakfast in hotel was great, cornflakes, eggs, toast (bread was very nice) etc something different to the norm of full English. Got a sunbed round the pool easily everyday until near the end of our last week in July when it started getting busier. Pool was lovely, snacks at lunch were great, milkshake time is a must as they are lovely and the card system is great so long as you pay it off quite frequently. Enjoyed entertainment in hotel barbeuce night great, belly dancer was brilliant me and my partner got roped it to show everyone a few moves. Also the breakdancers, gypsy passion and the fire show was great. Omar the photographer, what a great guy really friendly. We had some photos done with him and they are fantastic, look great in frames at home. My partner did paragliding and thought it was great only cost £40 english money. Booked through guide tours they were really good. Also booked with them a Turkish Bath that was fantastic and a boat trip which took you around the coast for the day with a great lunch only cost about £10 pound per person. Spent a great night in Hisaranou went to talk of the talk very enjoyable night and bar up there alot livelier.3 TL on Dolmus to get there. If i had to recommend a restaurant it would be Tocana a superb Italian ate there several times great value for money and best italian i have eaten. Other great places Buzz Beach Bar, Cousins and Tequila cocktail bar (obviously for the cocktails. Overall superb hotel, great beaches (biilys beach is a must) and excellent value for money. Can't wait to book for next year.

Just returned from one weeks holiday at the Karbel - wish it had been a fortnight. The Hotel and the whole resort is exceptionally clean. All staff at the hotel were helpful and pleasant at all times.

A god send that good air-conditioning is in the rooms- as whilst we were there it hit 50 Degrees on a couple of days.

Cleaners did a fabulous job, even placing flowers on the bed picked from the garden of the hotel- Nice touch. Room size was adequate although the balcony could have been bigger. Then only real issue we have is the size of the shower cubicle - very small.

We spent half our week around the "quiet" pool which was very clean and relaxing. Having an occasional snack from the Pool Bar. Staff around the pool very friendly and helpful.

On arrival you get a charge card to put all your food and drink you have within the hotel you then settle up at the end of your stay ( or daily your choice) very handy so you dont need to take cash out with you all the time.

We went to the BBQ night within the Hotel with belly-dancer and break-dancers. Food was ample and tasty however didn't really rate the belly-dancer - but a bit of fun.

We also went on the Thompson sun-downer trip- highly recommend as a nice evening boat trip to watch the sunset, and a good traditional Turkish meal in the open square in Old Fethiye.

Olu Deniz itself is lovely. If you like waves go to the main beach, but if you want calm sea go to Billy's Beach on the lagoon - they will even bring your lunch to you on the beach !! They couldn't do enough for you.

Give the Chinese restaurant on the left hand side of the main drag as you walk towards the beach a big miss !!!! We were looking forward to a Chinese half way through our week and they didn't even know what Hoisin sauce was !! It was also extremely expensive! Apart from that, all other restaurants we went to were lovely. Just be aware of some of the huge portions. If you are not a big eater, two starters may be better.

All in all a very good holiday and resort- will return.
