“A fantastic holiday - a big thank you to all at the Karbel”
Reviewed July 3, 2009

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the Karbel. We have travelled to many different parts of Europe and stayed in many different hotels from three star to five star so when we booked the Karbel at Olu Deniz I was a little worried about what we would find when we arrived. This was our first trip to Turkey as well as it would seem so many other people we met.

Having travelled through the towns to Olu we were still a little worried however once we arrived the views were amazing. The hotel grounds were beautiful - just the steps at times got a little wearing.

We found all the staff at the Karbel were polite and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and this seemed to be the concensus of most people staying there, but perhaps at times you needed a sense of humour too! Yes the waiters did try to sell you tickets for dinner or for the bar-b-cue but we found a polite no was more than enough. Mind you we did go for dinner at the hotel for four nights and got one free which was extremely good value (25 turkish lire per person for four nights). This was much cheaper overall than eating out at the other restaurants and we found just as good because you could have as much as you wanted from the starters through to the puddings! Breakfast was more than enough for anyone and the bread was not dry, it was baked freshly every day. If you wanted bacon and eggs then you could have it for an additional 10 lire but frankly you could stay in England and pay £15.00 for similar. If you want english food then try the Sunday night dinner - roast chicken, roast beef, yorkshire pudding, et al! The restaurant was heaving that night.

The bedrooms were small but more than adequate but the beds were a bit hard. The cleaners were wonderful and could'nt do enough for you including decorating your room with flowers. There were two pools and the quiet second pool was better for swimming in but you could choose.

Taking a trip down to the Blue Lagoon was superb although you had to pay for the sunbeds and umbrella but excellent for children as it was so safe apart from the pebbles.

The only downside - we took the trip to Dalyan which included a stay in the evening before flying back home. The day trip was good but the hotel we were sent to was awful. Thomson said three star but frankly we thought one star was too good for it. The bathroom was mouldy and toilet very old and stained.A good idea but Thomson need to get their act together and find a better hotel. The dinner was also very basic and the price of drinks on the high side. The airport was a rip off and we paid £7.30 for two coffees but we can't say we were not warned before hand, so eat and drink before you go.

Overall we did have a super holiday (and paid a price for a three star hotel to boot) which was extremely good value .

Well done all at the Karbel - keep it up and we will be back as soon as we can.

Just returned from a fantastic week at the hotel karbel. The staff were excellent from reception to the barstaff to the chambermaids. The room was spotless, everything looked new with no sign of wear and tear, like another reviewer said, it was nice to have a shower cubicle not a shower curtain clinging onto you! Nice little balcony, only enough room for 2 little chairs but lovely. The grounds of the hotel were immaculate, amazing trees/flowers etc. Even though it's a fairly big hotel it never seemed too busy at the pools or in the bars. We went B&B, there's something to suit everyone at breakfast so you'd have to be very fussy to moan about it! There was cereal, yogurt and honey, toast, boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses, also every day they would put something "extra" on eg, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fried eggs, omelettes. If none of the above would do you well you can go and buy a huge full english breakfast for about 9TL anywhere in Olu Deniz. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening so I can't comment on that.
We mainly used the main pool and it was always spotlessly clean and we never struggled to get loungers. There were loads of lilos, floats, balls available for anyone to use.
We loved Olu Deniz, it was our first time, our favorite bar for a drink in the evening has to be the Buzz bar on the front, really cool bar, good music and excellent staff, we even bought a few cd's of the music they played at night. For the best chicken or lamb doner go upstairs in the Buzz bar at lunchtime, it's amazing! a huge serving of lovely crispy meat with rice and bread and yogurt, hard to move afterwards though! It's also a great spot to sit and watch the paragliders coming in to land.
Overall fantastic holiday, but it was very very warm (41c) some days, and the evenings were nice and warm.

Good points:

Great location
VERY clean room EVERY day
Lovely gardens
1 of the 2 pools realxing and not over crowded

Bad points:

EVERY SINGLE DAY (even when we were eating breakfast) WE WERE HARRASSED BY THE STAFF CONSTANTLY TRYING TO SELL US EXTRAS SUCH AS DINNER IN THE HOTEL AND AFTER 11 DAYS IT JUST GOT TOO MUCH AND AS WE WERENT BUYING THEY BECAME REALLY RATHER RUDE ! s

BREAKFAST THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!! We ate there twice out of the 11 morning - options are dry bread, rubbery cheese and plastic ham - tantalising!!!

Belly Dancer stole my drink during bbq and when i asked for another one from the manager (on the house) as his belly dancer stole mine, he spoke to me like I was dirt on his shoe - THE STAFF ARE JUST SO RUDE!

It's a shame as all other people outside the hotel we met were just the friendliest, but the hotel staff were dreadfully rude and need to look up the term 'customer service '!

Do book if you want to be hassled 24/7!

This is the fourth year we have stayed at this hotel. The rooms are clean (attended every day) and air conditioned! The catering is first class and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We like to travel in the evenings to Hisaronu where there is a real buzz with a wide choice of excellent restaurants, catering for all tastes, shops and bars. The beach at Olu Deniz is as idyllic as you could wish, again sorrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from 6th June 2009 for two weeks, when we arrived we were given a really gloomy room in the basement with a very very small window no balcony and although we were moved after the 1st day it did put a damper on the start of the holiday. You really need to check the room when you book this hotel as they have some shed like chalets which have no natural lights and no balcony, they would get very very hot in the summer. One other grip was we were always being pressured to use the Hotel Buffet Meal plan in the evenings although we only booked B&B we were constantly pestered by the hotel staff. On the positive side the staff were very very friendly and accommodating especially the housekeeper we had she was lovely although she did not speak any English accept good morning she was always smiling. The hotel and pool area we really clean and welcoming and I would recommend this hotel to families and couples alike. The hotel photographer was good but did again pester a little bit to much. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and the evening meals we did take were very good. Instead of using cash on arrival you are give a charge card which is an excellent idea as it saves carrying cash. The resort of Oludeniz is nice with a main strip of bars restaurants and shops but go off the beaten track - the beach is stony but the water is very clear and clean, you can pick up a daily boat trip for about £8.00 directly from the beach each morning around 10.30am which includes lunch - Easy Rider is a good one as they have a Captain Jack Sparrow (look a like) on board which is great fun.
All in all its a good place to visit and their are several other towns nearby which you can get to easliy on the Dolmush bus for a very small fee so do get out and about.... One other thing the Guys have a Turkish Shave and the ladies a pedicure they are really good value a shave arounf £4.00 and the pedicure £10.00 with toes painted for the that to.

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at the Hotel Karbel Olu Deniz and I can honestly say that we cannot fault the hotel in any way from the location right through to the staff, it is brilliant and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in the future. Olu Deniz is a really lovely resort and is close to everything you could want, the nearest beach at the bottom of the strip is a bit stoney but we used "Billy's Beach" most of the time which is nice and sandy, if you ring them in the morning they will come and pick you up and take you back to your hotel later on at no cost, we did walk it one day which took about 20 minutes. I would recommend Olu Deniz and The Hotel Karbel to anyone.

Stayed at the Karbel for the first two weeks in June. Before we booked I read various reviews about the hotel, and about 98% of the reviews were all good so decided to go for it, booked with Travel Republic , what a bargain, £870 for two of us staying half board, and that price included airport parking for two weeks , insurance and transfers !
We arrived early hours in the morning - around 3am and were shown to our room. my heart sank a little as we were taken down stairs towards the dreaded basement rooms. However was pleasantly surprised as we were lucky enough to have a balcony which looked out over beautiful gardens. the room was also pleasantly cool , didnt need the aircon until the second week , and even then only had it on for an hour or two
Hotel was absolutely spotless, cleaners started at around 6.30am and were still going at 7 pm, they made heart shapes out our towels and left flowers on the bed , a really nice touch and were all polite and made an effort to speak to you . Breakfast was a little limited on choice, bread , eggs , traditional Turkish breakfast of meats, cheeses etc, cereals, Could have done with some fresh fruit also , however , I still managed to fill myself up on the freshly baked bread and jam. Barstaff really friendly and they made an effort to remember your names, as were the restaurant staff, the restaurant manager greeted us every evening andmade an effort to chat with you. Evening meals were great, plenty of salads if you didnt fancy the main courses, soup, breads , vegetable dishes. The moussaka , and the Sunday roast were brilliant . Just a word of advice, when you get your card that you put all your drinks, snacks on etc, make sure you pay as often as you can, prevents nasty shocks when you go to pay after 5 days ! drinks arent particularly cheap, I found that applied to the resort, not just the hotel. If you want a cheaper night out, get on the dolmus to Hisaronu, only takes 5 mins and costs 5 lira for two of you, they run back to Ou Deniz until 1am so its woth going for a night out there. The resort of Olu Deniz is lovely, yes, the restaurant/ shop owners shout to try and get you in, as long as you are polite when saying no, they leave you alone. We actually made some really good friends with some of them and they are lovely people . Beach lovely, and never too busy, yes, its pebbly, but you can buy beach shoes with rubber bottoms so you can go in the sea, they cost about £6.00 and definitely worth investing in. There are some lovely bars along the beachfront, Buzz, Help to name but a few, You can also sit on beanbags on the beach at night and just chill with a drink listening to the sound of the sea . Lots to do, if your brave, by all means try paragliding , boat trips are good also, although the sea sometimes is extremely choppy ! For those people that say its too commercialised and full of chavs, is a little harsh, I have been to Marnaris and thought that was the pits when it came to tackyness.. A great holiday and am looking forward to going again next year at the Karbel . If they had an all inclusive option I would definitely take that one ! Big thumbs up
