“Helpful staff, spectacular views - basic accommodation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2011

We stayed at the Manzara Hotel for 1 week in May 2011. The Hotel was very quiet and we found it easy to relax amid the spectacular scenery. The restaurant and bar staff deserve spacial mention as they were always friendly, very helpful and worked hard to make sure all guests were well catered for.

The hotel is located in an isolated area about 2km up a fairly steep hill from the nearest town. This means the hotel is wonderfully quiet with a restaurant and pool area that we found comfortable and suitable for kids. Be warned that there are a few steps involved in reaching the restaurant / pool area.

The accommodation was quite basic and might be considered in need of refurbishment.

We had a really good time and would visit this area again.

We have just returned today from this hotel and found it absolutely "First Class" !!! We went for a quiet chill out holiday for my husbands birthday and were amazed at the view the location ( walking distance from town.)

The meals were typically Turkish and very healthy and were varied, beautifully flavoured and everything we hoped. We didnt go to Turkey to have "Chips and Egg or Roast Beef or a Full English but you could buy this in the town if you wanted.

Now we must tell you about the bar staff and how fantastice they were.

Sinbad..was the first one we met and he called us when we arrived at 2am to tell he had opened the bar for us as we had a long trip and needed to chill so we went up. What an amazing guy he turned out to be friendly, helpful, and made us feel that this was maybe a 5star resort.

OZ ...who checked us in and carried our bags to our room was again just a great guy. As time went on we became friendly and he could never do enough for us and was full of fun and life all the time singing and dancing with his RAPPER! MOVES.

Now John (Can in Turkish) he must be the best barman in the world, always attentive and NEVER pushy and so happy to talk to us. We discussed drinks, music and many other things with him and his English was impeccable.

Halley...he served the tables very efficiently and always greeted us at breakfast with a smile. He was quiet and reserved but none the less always friendly and was a key member of the staff making us feel so welcome.

The Chef... too busy cooking to socialise was ABSOLUTLEY FIRST CLASS. His food was beautifully spiced and flavoured and cooked to perfection. If you want to eat Turkish food this is the place for you!!

The young lady on reception, sometimes described as grouchy, is anything but. Spoken to kindly, she became outgoing and friendly with a beautiful smile, she is just really quite shy and reserved.

THE DINOSAURS.....(NOT US BY THE WAY) are tacky but cute and as you approach the entrance to the hotel after a walk back from town they make you smile :) By the way the walk to and from town is not dangerous at all as there is marked footpath and all the drivers ( dolmus included) give you plenty of room.

It is time to slay the myth that this is not a Great Hotel to stay in, Yes in June to August they will be busy and may not have the same time to talk to you but visit in May or late season and you will feel like one of them. Learn a few words of turkish and they will appreciate you even more so. Please give this WONDERFUL PLACE a chance and judge for yourself.

Oh by the way we never Eric ...we think he is myth and not sure if he ever existed because Oz has been there six years and never heard of him.

So this hotel is a bit far out and isn't really walking distance to the beach but a cab is so cheap or you can jump on the dolmus outside, but this is my favourite hotel in olu deniz!!! The family who run the hotel are lovely, so welcoming. My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice now august/September 2010 and may 2011.

Rooms are clean and nice enough, amazing views. The gardens are 'mature' but if you explore them a bit you'll find a lovely little patio in amongst fig trees and lots of farm animals about. It's lovely!

My boyfriend arrived at the hotel before I did in may an although I had all the booking confirmation they let him go in anyway, choose the room he wanted, even helped him decorate with Rose petels and candles for me.

We are going back in June and we will be staying in this hotel again. I have other friends who have stayed here and also rate it highly!

Love this hotel!!

We have had many holidays in Olu Deniz so knew where this hotel was - it takes about 15 mins to walk into resort but easier to get dolmus back as very steep. They come every 2mins & are very cheap. We only paid £84 for 2 people 8 nights bed and breakfast. We were happy with the hotel, clean, friendly, breakfast basic turkish (but after all this is Turkey so don't expect Full English). Beauiful gardens & view over the resort. Clean pool area but you can smell the chickens sometimes! Small shop. You usually don't get kettles or fridges in Turkey. This is a good basic budget hotel. You will find loads of places to eat & drink in Olu Deniz all excellent. I would recommend to a friend if I could explain the location etc. Would stay there again but do prefer to be a little closer to the resort!

I have stayed in simple backpacker hostels which were infinitely superior to this disgraceful place. The setting is gorgeous and it is sad that the rooms are totally uninhabitable. Sheets and towels were rarely changed over our two week stay and then clean towels were only provided on request. Not one surface in the room had ever been wiped over: we had to do it ourselves to lay the dust! The bathroom was not cleaned once during our stay, not even the toilet and the toilet brush needed incinerating. There is just one tiny bin and the "furnished balcony" consisted of one, very hard, very small, wooden chair. The sofa was disgustingly dirty. The staff spoke little and often no English and were very, very unfriendly and unhelpful. The air conditioning we were promised had to be paid for on arrival and the "in room safe" also had to be paid for separately and turned out to be a box in the sparse reception.

The breakfast consisted of a few olives, cheese, tomatoes and, sometimes, pancakes and it looked like the poor half board guests had little more than this for their dinner. The people running the restaurant and pool area seemed unconnected with the Hotel and, from what we gathered, were paid minimally to provide the poor fare. Their own menu was good and the meals pleasant.

This could be a fabulous Hotel with its wonderful location and views, overlooking a pleasant resort but, instead, I would advise anyone who has already booked with an Agent to demand an alternative, immediately, if you don't want to come home as we have, both with viral infections and feeling stressed and, frankly, furious.

I write as a seasoned traveller who has visited most parts of the Globe, usually as an independent traveller, NOT as someone with unreasonable expectations. This place should be removed from all Travel Agents' books.

We have just had the most enjoyable week staying at the Manzara. After reading some of the reviews prior to our holiday we really didn't know what to think, or expect, wondering if we had done the right thing booking this hotel.
When we first arrived we were given the key to our room and a young Turkish lad took our suitcase up to it for us. When we entered the room we thought that it was very basic, but we knew that we wouldn't be staying in there much so this was not an issue. The food we ate ate the Hotel was enjoyable, with traditional Turkish breakfast and a variety of dishes on offer for the evening meal. Even though the food was a bit repetitive it was very tasty, as i'm sure they use lots of different flavourings and spices, with different vegetables from the lovely gardens which surround the hotel. We found the bar staff friendly and always very polite, with some of them speaking more, and better English than others. We used the pool a few times and layed on the sunbeds, which were always available, which we found really relaxing, listening to both English and Turkish music......We payed 10 lira for a Turkish night at the hotel which was a good fun, with a Belly Dancer and a Fire Dancer, and had a trip one evening to Hisaronu where there is plenty going on, with lots of shops bars and restaurants. Also a trip to Fethiye Market is a must, where there is so much to see. We went on a boat trip which lasted approx 7 hours, which was very enjoyable and good value for money. On our last day we went and swam in the Blue Lagoon, There was a small charge for this but it was well worth it!.......

Overall we had a lovely holiday at the Manzara..... This was our first time in Turkey and we enjoyed every minute of it!!!! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!! ... Have a great time if you go .........

I have to start by saying that the setting of the Manzara is fantastic and the views over Olu Deniz were stunning! I think with just a few extra touches like a fridge and an electric kettle and clean towels and sheets every few days it would improve things dramatically! We did only book bed and breakfast and the breakfast was basic but turkish as stated. The biggest problem we encountered was the wasps dive bombing your food whilst you were actually trying to eat it and one morning i just gave up trying to eat it in the end. My friend was actually stung twice whilst we were there so if your allergic to wasp stings this definitely aint the place for you.
Most of the staff were very friendly and polite even if their english was sometimes limited. The only exception to this was Eric who was a bit of a pest for the first few days of our stay until we made it clear we weren't falling for his patter! The music played around the pool was often played too loudly and was innappropriate for the time of day! ( dance music at ten o clock in the morning). The rooms were clean and basic but in need of a bit of TLC. Everyday there was some reason we had to ring reception, no hot water, blown lightbulbs, broken shower head, broken lock on outside door, no clean towels or sheets. Having said that this was sorted within minutes of us reporting them and we were allowed to keep our room on the last day at no extra charge because of all the problems! It was around a 15 - 20 minute walk into Olu deniz although it could be a bit slippy so if your not good on your legs i would suggest the bus which was about 5 lira per couple. Finally we did meet some really lovely people who were staying there and this made the holiday for us. It wasn't great but we refused to let it spoil our holiday and we just made the most of it!
