“Awesome Holiday - Brilliant Hotel!”
Reviewed September 13, 2010

We stayed at the Blue Lagoon for 1 week BB from the 2nd-9th Sep 2010. We had a brilliant time and there is nothing that I could fault about this 3* hotel. The rooms are pretty basic (as you would expect from a 3* in Turkey) but certainly adequate and spotlessly clean. This is really important to us! You also get free air conditioning. The pool was very clean and you could always get a sunbed. 1 recommendation - If you get food/drinks from the hotel, you have to put them on a bar tab (you get receipts). It's worthwhile paying this up daily so you can keep on top of your finances. Every time we paid it was ALWAYS correct!

The staff were friendly and there are some real good characters working there. They made us feel very welcome! The Turkish night that they put on was a laugh also. We made friends with another couple whilst being out their too, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

As for Olu Deniz, its a lovely place and the staff along the main strip do not hassle you too much, which is good. Good Bars and Restaurants. The Beach is nice, but be aware of the stones, it can hurt your feet getting in and out of the sea! We also visited Sugar Beach which was nice. There is a free pick up service to and from there. You just pay for sunloungers when you get there.

Great Holiday, would definately recommend to others!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks starting 26th August, my review:

Overall:
Overall this is a good hotel, well positioned in Olu Deniz, its at the back of the resort so quieter at night. We booked through Thomas Cook.
The hotel is kept very clean and has nice garden areas which are well looked after.
There's a small childrens play area, and a few swinging chairs and hammocks mostly in the shade in the garden areas surrounding the pool that come in very useful in the hot turkish sun.

Rooms
Rooms are on the small size, but ours had a kingsize bed in it which was very comfortable, and each room has what you need and most importantly has air conditioning which was free. The wardrobe didn't have enough clothes hangers in, but we'd taken some with us which we left there.
You can also rent a fridge if you wish that is brought to your room.
The bathroom is fine, having a shower, and suprisingly a reasonably powerful hairdryer built in.
The rooms are kept very clean by hardworking cleaning staff.
Each room has a balcony, this is quite small, with enough room to dry/air your beach towels.
Our bedding was changed at least 6 times in the 2 weeks we were there and we had clean towels every couple of days (if not every other day - I lost count) this service is very good.
The only minor downside is that the safety deposit boxes are in Reception, I would have prefered them to be in the room - but its not really a major issue

Pool
The pool is large enough, cool and there always seemed to be a few lilo's to float about on should you wish. Occasionally it got a bit busy, but its still big enough to get in swim and basically cool down.
There are plenty of loungers around the pool, which have padded beds on them so are more comfortable than usual and umbrellas.
The pool was always kept clean

Resteraunt
We were B&B at this hotel
Breakfast was the usual Turkish breakfast, cheese, tomato, boiled eggs, bread / toast, jam etc. Some mornings there were omlettes cooked to order (included in the cost of the B&B deal) but if you want a full english its extra 12 Turkish Lira - which sounds expensive but after trying a few round the resort the hotels breakfast proved the most tasty and the most generous in portion size as well.
We ate at the hotel on a few occasions, at it was FAR cheaper than eating in any of the other resteraunts in Olu Deniz. 20 to 23 Turkish Lira for 3 courses.
There are set menu's each day, or you can order from the extensive a-la-carte menu. The food at the hotel is very good quality, there steaks are very good.

Staff
Staff at this hotel are fantastic. They work very hard, 7 days a week, from 7am in a morning until the late hours of the following morning.
Always with a smile and always happy to help you and chat.
George (Resteraunt Manager) is a real asset to this hotel, the new managment team should realise and appreciate the hard work this man puts in.
Other staff are Soloman and Samson who work in the resteraunt and behind the pool bar and a few of the younger lads. Equally happy to help whenever they can. They are funny and the managers at this hotel should hold onto these staff as they somewhat 'make' the place and give the hotel a very homely feel.

Olu Deniz
This is my second time to the resort - first was 7 years ago, and of course in 7 years the resort has grown and become a lot more 'touristy'.
For me on this visit...I could have been anywhere on holiday, Olu Deniz seems to have lost some of it's traditional Turkish charm.
But there are plenty of resteraunts, a few bars and a lot of shops.

After just reading a couple of awful reviews for The Blue Lagoon hotel I felt I had to reassure anyone thinking of going there. My family and I were obviously not staying at the same hotel!! The hotel is spotlessly clean and the maids cleaned and tidied every day and changed towels every couple of days. At no time was our room not 100 percent clean. The pool was cleaned morning and night without fail and all areas were beautifully kept.

Regarding the pool area, even though it was mid august there were always loungers available and I had friends who came to the hotel from outside and there were always extra loungers for them! Also I remember the Londoners who I think were there for a wedding and although they were loud as they were a large group, they were just enjoying their holiday and were of mixed ages and absolutely no trouble to anyone. They spent time in the pool when we were in the pool and it's ridiculous to say there was not room as there was plenty.

Maybe these people feel the hotel was below them and normal working class people should not go on holiday!?

I must admit some staff (Solomon) were a little grumpy but who cares if it doesn't affect you. They work hard and long hours especially the young lad helping at the bar and the receptionist who never slept.

Our room overlooked the pool but to be honest I would have been happy in any as I wanted to be out not stuck in my room and we had mo trouble with the air con and it's free!!

The hotel was expensive to eat and drink in so we did go out to eat and to drink we went to The Rose garden which did cheap cocktails and we loved Toscana for food.

I would highly recommend the jeep safari for less than £12 Inc lunch from 8am to 7pm a trip never to be forgotten where you see lots and get very very wet.

Olu Deniz is beautiful but a bus trip to Hisonaru is not far and more lively if you want it.

I would go back here and only to this hotel tomorrow if I could and I urge anyone worried to not listen to any negative feedback and enjoy your holiday here.

We travelled with a 14 and 18 year old as well as me and my fiancé who are 38 and 40 so a mixture of ages.

can i just say that i think some people go on holiday just to find fault with anything and everything!! We have just come back from the blue lagoon and it was also our first time in turkey, we booked this trip only 2 weeks before going, it was for b&b, when we got there we heard how good the food was we upgraded to half board we were not disapointed. We also had a ground floor room it was cleaned everyday had clean towels made into swans and decorated with petals, the staff were brilliant so friendly and helpfull.
We also made friends with some of the residence there especilly a couple from Leicester, they made our week even better, we had such good fun with them it was hard to say good bye and they are there for 3 weeks(they will know who they are when they read this Nanu nanu!!!!!!) We are certainly going back.

Myself and my partner stayed at this 'hotel' for one week from 27th August 2010. My parents were also at this hotel for 2 weeks from 20th August.
First impressions were ok, apart from that fact that the rooms assigned to the people staying for 1 week were of a poorer standard to those staying for 2 weeks. The maid came into the room daily, and folded up dirty towels to be re-used, and made the beds. The bed clothing and towels were only replaced once in the week which I found unacceptable considering the heat and the number of showers taken.
The airconditioning unit had a smell of damp and rattled loudly.

We are not 'pool bathers' as we both enjoy exploring the area and spending time in the sea and on this beach. I believe that this is why the staff attitude towards us changed a couple of days in. It appeared that if you were willing to spend all of your time and money at the hotel, the staff couldnt do enough for you. However if not then you will not even receive an acknowledgement. Even George in the restaurant refused to acknowledge us daily at breakfast, however continued to acknowledge all other guests.

I had missed the Thomas Cook rep's welcome meeting and wanted to meet them to book an excursion. I called down to reception to ask if she had arrived - I was advised 'no', however they would give me a call when she did to save me from hanging around downstairs. The call never came, and the same thing happened the following day.
When I went to reception to question this I was advised that the receptionist does not speak english, however when they checked us in their english was perfect. The person there who could speak english said that I was a liar, and it wasnt their problem!

Checking out of the hotel was the best part of our holiday, although there was not a word of thanks or a smile on the receptionists face.

The place itself, Oludeniz is a great little resort. Plenty of places to eat and drink with a great beach (pebbles & shingle). The sea is very strong and the waves are very high and can easily go over your head.
Shopping is awesome too - you can find everything you want at a price you want.

Please be aware, unless you spend all of your time and money at this hotel, the experience will be 2nd call compared to the people who are prepared to do this.

Service and the staff were brilliant. We arrived at the hotel in the middle of the night after a delayed flight and reception were brilliant and got us to our room straight away. Room was lovely - nice and airy and plenty of storage space. The aircon was an absolute blessing! Bathroom modern and clean. We were on the group floor so had a little terrace instead of a balcony but experienced none of the problems of the previous reviewers. We were enclosed in a little garden and got the sun every morning.

The only problem we ever really experienced was on the third day when we left about 7/8 Lira in coins neatly piled up on one of the bed side tables. On returning to the room after a day at the beach, it had gone, presumably taken by the maid. We were a little miffed as we thought it was quite obvious that it wasn't a tip but put it down to a simple misunderstanding. So be weary of leaving coins on show during the day. We also had one of our plug adapters taken when someone came to install the fridge (25 Lira (around £12) for the week - was lovely to keep cold drinks in for the evening) and mentioned this to reception but they didn't get back to us.

Despite this, our overall experience of the hotel was brilliant. The pool was lovely, with views of the surrounding moutains and sky full of paragliders! Absolutely beautiful. The bar was good and did reasonably priced snacks and drinks during the day. Breakfasts were good too, with a basic selection of cheese, ham, salad and egg as well as toast and cereals. We ate in the restaurant once during the week and it was OK but not the most exciting. We recommend Toscana (on the main drag) and Bella & Gusto's (on the beach front) for evening meals. A beer and a strawberry waterpipe on beanbags on the beach is also one not to be missed!

We went to the lagoon one day but thought that the beach was just as beautiful (despite the stones). It's definitely worth investing in a pair of beach shoes - we thought our feet would just get used to it but they didn't!

Overall, a really nice hotel. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We would definitely go back.

second time in this hotel, last year was fantastic that was the reason why we went back this year. On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who remembered us from last year, and we imediatley could sense that things had changed, he told us the hotel had changed hands and that meant changes not so good. Our room was on the bottom, no views only a wall and hedge, the balconys above us would put there wet clothes on there balconys and it would drip down on our stuff, i learnt not to sit out on the balcony in the afternoon and not have a camers or phone out there or they would get wet!!
The card system was worse this year as most people were getting charged for things they hadn't had everyday someone was arguing at reception about there drink or food bill. This year was the introduction to KARIOKI !! Hmmmm not our cup of tea twice a week wanna be x factor contestants would attempt to sing very loudly late at night, Cringe ! This made me think of cheap hotels in blackpool or somewhere like. The staff are still as nice and polite and funny as last year but they all said they were not as happy this year, you could see that they were bieng watched by one of the owners all the time as she sat watching them from the dining area. We sat on the beach for 2 weeks as getting a bed by the pool was impossible! as for swimming in the pool was also impossible at times. A large family from london about 15 of them hogged the pool, playing there family games and not letting anyone else even swim ! ( yes you know who you are) the staff had to let this go on as they were bieng watched but later told us they didn't like having to let the london family hog the pool and beds. This family should of gone all inclusive or gone to blackpool far more suiting for them! on our last day we were having a final drink in the garden when one of the owners came over, he asked why we were sitting there, he thought we had just come off the street for a si down, when i told him we were regulars at the hotel and that we had just spent 2 weeks there he was shamed and said why have i not seen you before? Well because we cant get into the pool. can't get sunbeds, our room is on the ground floor hidden by a wall and a hedge and you owners spend all of the time watching the staff ! Thats why ! He walked away then. Love George, scotty and high as a kite soloman! Will miss them as we will not go back there again!
