“Hit and Miss”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

I went to The Blue Lagoon in June with my girlfriend. My experience was one that was very hit and miss. The hotel has a lot going for it on the location side. Olu Deniz is nestled between shoulders of mountains and a beautiful azzure sea. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the beach and five minutes from the strip.

The best word I can find to describe our room with is 'box'. Very small with a terrace that was the size of a dinner plate facing a concrete wall, not a great view. It was mostly clean with the exception of the bathroom shelf which was filthy. The fridge had been manually removed from the room as to encourage you to pay over the odds for drinks; I bought an iced tea from the local supermarket which was 1.75 compared to the 5.00 lira at the hotel. The air conditioning was free and worked most of the time but it didn't seem to do anything.

Evening meals reminded me of a school canteen. Very little choice and very poor quality. We decided to dine out every night apart from the first. Very disappointing, however the food at the restaurants on the strip was exceptional and very well priced. The pool was clean and well maintained the only problem I found was the continuously horrendous music that would blare out on a daily basis, ruining the peaceful facade of the swimming pool.

The staff were generally friendly, yet maybe too numerous. One of the waiters was a sociopath however, incredibly arrogant and unpolite, and more to the point annoying. We would often avoid drinking at the bar because he would be there. The idiot felt it a good idea to flick a straw with the remainders of a cocktail onto my girlfriends trousers which did actually stain them. We were constantly press ganged by the hotel photographer, asking us the same thing every night for 7 days, we weren't interested the first time.

Overall the hotel has a lot to thank from its location. I wouldn't recommend going half board I would suggest bed and breakfast as the evening meals were terrible. It wasn't unpleasant and I'd neither recommned nor tell you to avoid visiting, if you can accept the oversights I have experienced Olu Deniz is a very nice place. Just maybe consider looking for other hotels before deciding on this one.

We arrived having spent eight days in Hisoranu, we booked for three nights and picked the hotel due to it's rating on Tripadvisor. What a mistake.

The hotel walking through it looks like a tackier version of the set of TV's Benidorm and there were beach towels reserving every single chair 24/7 (probably left there from 6am)

We got to the room (a 2 bedroom shack) and realized we had been put on the very top floor - 3 flights up stairs with no lift or stroller access - even though we had booked a double and mentioned we had a 10 month old.

I'll start with the room, it was very, very basic and filthy. No kettle, no menu, no aircon (have to pay extra not advertised), tv picture was awful, no internet in rooms and the furniture was dirty, broken and incomplete. The aircon we decided to pay for ended up leaking all over the room and was met with no surprise by the receptionist (if she can stomach to call herself that)

The lady at reception kindly made me aware, after I queried about the air con, that she would be getting the money I'd paid regardless of whether I chose to pay extra for aircon.

I also told her of our inconvenient and inappropriate room location with a baby. To which she shrugged her shoulders and smirked. Her response was inappropriate and and the question an inconvenience.

There was A BAT in the room hanging from the curtain. There was also a leak from the aircon all over the room floor.

I will never stay at this hotel again. I thought the reviews were accurate but I think it may be a case of close knit ties all meeting in the same hotel, every year, writing favorable reviews.

It was awful.

One of the best and friendliest hotels we have stayed in, a very comfortable and clean hotel, not very big just 74 rooms giving it a personal touch. Forget what you may have read on some reviews, George is the most helpful fella you could meet, same as his staff, it's true that if you upset one of them they do tend to stick together and some of the stupid things some guests demand you can understand why. People complain about the loud music at night, not so except maybe theme nights but not all night ( in fact you more than often have to ask for music to be put on), there is noise from other close by hotels but not as bad as the main strip, as i said earlier if there are any problems see George and he will sort it. All in all if you want a good, clean, and very comfortable and friendly hotel then this is the one, we were bed and breakfast which was adequate, but if you can eat any time of the day and George will arrange any kind of meal you'd like, prices are reasnable food is plentiful (large portions) reception will arrange free transportation to various sandy beaches (the main beach is pebbles and dops sharply) brilliant will def go back next year and hopefully later this year

Room Tip: For couples the rooms are fine, you don't really need a deluxe room (unless you want to splash o...

Stayed at the hotel for 8 nights. Location is superb, 2 mins from Strip and far enough so you can't hear the music.
Hotel is nice with a nice big pool, table tennis, pool table.
Rooms are a good size. We asked for a double bed and got it. Rooms are basic had to pay extra for air con 80 tl for the week. Would of been nice to have a small fridge in the room. Rooms are cleaned daily.
One thing I don't like about the hotel is that to order food or drink you have to pay using a room card as the bar does not accept money . You pay the balance off at the end of the week at reception which Is dangerous as you might have a shock bill at the end. Next time well look for another hotel for the price we paid for blue lagoon which has the little extra touches.

Our request via Thomas Cook for a high floor room had not got through to the hotel. We arrived after 1am so it was too late to do anything about it, but we succeeded in moving after one night. Our second room was better all round, facing over the Blue Lagoon's pool area rather than outwards where we had been subjected to noisy entertainment from a neighbouring hotel.

Rooms were in good condition and bathrooms newly refurbished, with excellent showers. Very clean, but bedding was a bit small for the bed!

Breakfast was plentiful with some different options on different days (eg. pancakes). We were half board but ate in a couple of nights, for the Turkish night and the steak night. Both were "eat all you can" buffet style and very good.

Food and drink consumed at the hotel goes on your tab. The system for this seemed disorganised but they did get our bill right at the end.

Air con was free (at least on a Thomas Cook package) and worked well, and we were glad of it in May.

A lot of arrivals and departures are during the night, so inevitably there is some disturbance from this. We had a late departure ourselves so paid £20 to keep our room until 5pm.

We went to Tlos (remains and rock tombs) and Saklikent (gorge) with Guide Tours whose office is on the main road parallel to the strip (the road the dolmuses run up and down) - excellent, informative guide (Mehmet), so we recommend this. We chose it because they were using a small air-conditioned minibus rather than jeeps. Plenty of cheap boat trips run from the resort.

Our favourite place to eat was Kumsal Pide - down to the sea front, turn left, and continue almost to the end. (Pide is Turkish style pizza). Good value and quieter than places on the strip.

Room Tip: Better to have a room facing inwards across the Blue Lagoon's own pool. Outward facing rooms ove...

Me and my girlfriend recently returned from a 7 day holiday in Oludeniz, Turkey where we stayed at The Blue Lagoon Hotel on a B&B basis, here’s our views on the hotel…

The hotel is situated just one block behind the main strip of bars/restaurants/shops that leads toward the lovely beach front of Oludeniz, it was an ideal location for us, as it wasn’t right in the middle of the busy part but also not too far out of the way. I’d estimate its about a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the beach front.

The hotel room we stayed in was located on the ground floor (#120), initially I was disappointed as this meant we had no balcony and the view from our small ‘terrace’ was of a wall!
However throughout the week, this became less of an issue as we realised that because our block was facing away from the bar area, it allowed us bit more privacy, an looking at some of the other rooms I imagine they may have had to deal with noise-issues from the bar area.
Inside our room, it was on the small side, but that wasn’t really a problem for us, more importantly it was cleaned/fresh towels/bed changed everyday.

As we had our accommodation booked through Thomas Cook, it meant we had free air conditioning, which was good and much needed as the weather in Oludeniz was nice and hot! (early June 25-33 degrees celsius)

There were safety deposit boxes located at reception which cost 25TL (about £9) for a weeks use.

The reception staff were helpful whenever we asked for assistance or information, the bar staff were less helpful and generally came across as being fed-up!

The pool was my favourite part of the hotel complex, there was a nice chilled-out atmosphere around the pool throughout the day and the water wasn’t too cold when dipping in to cool-off! There was a lovely view from the pool area of the mountains above and there where no problems with getting a sun-lounger, just put a towel down in the morning! (Maybe in the busier part of the summer season this could be an issue?)

As we stayed B&B, the only food we eat at the hotel was breakfast, which we ended up doing 3 out of the 7 days, this consisted of a variety of continental options - cereal/toast/fruit/eggs/yogurts etc.
On one of the days there was a chef making omelettes, I don’t know if that’s only available on certain days?
Also, one of the surlier members of staff (who only seemed to crack a smile for single women!) kindly informed us at that if we wanted orange juice we had to pay an extra 4TL, we hadn’t even asked for it!
I would say that unless you are staying all-inclusive; try to avoid buying drinks at the hotel, 8TL for a glass of coke (about £3), rip-off! The most expensive beer I bought on the holiday didn’t cost as much as that.
And as mentioned in previous reviews there’s a payment system of things being charged to a card that you are issued, I would advise to pay that off daily, as I would imagine that things could expensively build-up if you let it run over the course of your stay.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a good clean hotel with a nice pool and good location, basically a good ‘base’ for your holiday than I would recommend The Blue Lagoon Hotel.

Oludeniz is a lovely resort with an amazing sea/beach, lovely views, nice people, a great variety of bars/restaurants; me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it there!

We have just returned from our 6th visit to the Blue Lagoon Hotel,it was a lovely holiday too, just ask the 75% of people there who return year after year . It is a family owned hotel with wonderful staff ,George, Suleyman, Mustafa, billal,Ibo and everyone are so helpful and genuine people made our visit very special never did we see them be rude to anyone lots of happy banter is all they know. hotel is spotlessly clean, pool well maintained and spotless, wonderful food freshly cooked 25-30 tl for 4 courses in evening lots to choose from snack menu daily. rooms are very clean air conditioning, and cleaned daily. really great turkish night, food, and entertainment is spot on,We now class them as our friends and no we are not saying this to stay friendly with George ! the music is switched off at midnight never a problem .Highly reccomend this hotel it is one of the best in Olu Deniz we just love it !!!

Room Tip: block a & b face away from pool, block c overlooks pool and bar back of them faces a noisy hotel...
