“Clean hotel & nice stay with some minor negatives....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the blue lagoon hotel... We are a couple in our early 20's. Arrived at around 3am and was quickly checked in and taken to our room which was clean and a good size. Room was basic but wouldn't expect much more. Air conditioning was in part of the package we had paid, although it was a 14tl a day charge if it wasn't included, the room did not have a fridge so we couldn't keep any drinks cold in the room which was an incovienece as our water went warm quite quickly, you can get a fridge for an extra £20 a week... Which isn't a lot but if your already having to pay for other extras it all adds up! I guess you would expect a fridge now adays! Breakfast in the mornings was ok although I am a very fussy eater so only had toast, they did have free pancakes one morning, they were really tasty, and would have liked them everyday but again that was an extra cost, it was a continental breakfast. I struggled with the diary products in turkey not just at the hotel as they just seemed to have a horrible taste. We were bed and breakfast so we ate out every night apart from the Turkish night, as the dinner buffet didn't look appetising to me (again I am very fussy) but on the Turkish night the food was different and we had a really nice meal with grilled meats etc and the entertainment was really good,.. We didn't actually have lunch here once either so couldn't comment on that. The bar staff and waiters were really friendly and would get anything u asked and always willing to help... Metin and byram were a good laugh! A negative about this hotel would be the billing system, my partner had gone up to pay the bill as we wanted to do it daily, it came to 200tl (which typical man didn't ask what it was for) so I later went up and asked for the recceipts and found we had been charged 70tl for a previous Turkish night we hadnt even attended.... So be careful if you say to them u might go to the night as they just charge it to your room... They can be abit cheeky about drinks and ice creams as well saying they might be free or a lower price but then finding later they charged you or a higher price... We ended up not spending as much money at the hotel the second week as we thought they were taking the p*** abit! Not that we didn't have the money and spend around 700tl at the hotel in our two week stay.... Another negative would be the loud noise levels, we are up for a laugh and that but some nights you don't want to stay up late and found the music went on until 2am and you could hear people which kept us awake, the door in the room also had a large gap at the bottom which meant we could also hear loud music coming from the hotel behind us. We had a nice balcony in the room but felt when you sat there your were on show to everyone as they are on top of the pool, not a lot of privacy. We found that the owners children sat out in one of the sitting areas every night which is ok but we quite liked sitting on the hammock and it would of been nice again to have a bit of quiet around us and found they sort of looked at us as of we shouldn't of been sat there, they also helped them selves a lot to the I've creams and water, which they obviously weren't aloud as the sneaked to fridges and always looked around to check no one was watching! Over all we had a great stay here and would return back to this hotel maybe just for a week next time.

Having booked a two week holiday in The Blue Lagoon Hotel, Oludeniz with Thomas Cook I was surprised to learn when we arrived that we were booked through Hotels4U which meant the air con would cost £5 per day as opposed to being free when booked through Thomas cook!!! Our first room was small with not much storage space for 2 weeks worth of clothes so after 1 night decided to ask how much it would be to upgrade to a deluxe room. George was very helpful and arranged this for us for a cost of £10 per night (room 314 is the best of the upgrade rooms, believe me as I checked out at least 5 others) its huge, quiet and has a distant sea view.
The hotel itself is very clean and well looked after I did have an issue with the way we were told we had to charge our drinks and any other extras to our room as I believe we were overcharged on several occassions but if you clear your bill daily and insist on a receipt for everything you get from the bar this shouldn't become an issue. Metin and Byram in the bar were fantastic and we had a great time with them most evenings. There are a few private beaches on the lagoon which offer free transfers to and from the hotel on a daily basis and the best one we found was billys beach where its sandy and a gentle slope into the sea. Oludeniz main beach is pebbles so take or buy beach shoes, the water drops off very quickly here and you are unable to stand within around 1-2m away from the shore.
The food in the hotel is not fantasitc but is edible, the turkish night is a scream and the food much better. We ate out a few times during our 2 weeks here and would highly recommend the Sea Horse beach bar on the front the food here was the best I have ever tasted and Charlie is hilarious with his general banter..
During our stay Oludeniz experienced a 6.1magnitude earthquake which was incredibly scary and made more so as non of the hotel staff seemed to be prepared or trained in how to deal with such an eventuality, I believe they need to have some sort of a procedure or information in place so that holidaymakers know what they should do in such a situation, but instead all the staff just ran away and left us bewildered by the pool.
I would definately recommend oludeniz as a beautiful quiet resort without some of the hard sell tactics found in other turkish resorts.

Room Tip: Room 314 is the best of the deluxe rooms and is definetly worth the extra charge

Just returned from an amazing 10 night b&b stay at the Blue Lagoon Hotel on what was our first trip to Turkey but will definitely not be the last to both this hotel and the region, despite a strong earthquake, 50c temperatures in june and sandstorms. The hotel is beautiful, well maintained and has an extremely high standard of customer service compared to what you would get in the likes of Spain. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the lady on reception who was exceptional throughout the holiday and we were shown to our rooms by 2 members of staff who also helped us with our luggage. The same evening we were made to feel at home by George and Lefta from the restaurant and Mustafa and Metin on the bar who all went the extra mile to talk to us and welcome us to the hotel. Our family stayed in rooms 122 and 123, both basic ground floor rooms, but had everything we needed for the little time we spent there and were of an adequate size. We had to pay a small amount for the use of a fridge in the room and a safety deposit box at reception but air conditioning was free which, as I understand, is unlike most hotels in Oludeniz. If basic is not your thing, then there are deluxe rooms available at the hotel which come with all the added extras for not very much more money and are probably worth it if you are travelling with children. At the end of our stay we were not due to be picked up until 7pm, we had no problem securing a room to keep our cases in and freshen up in at the price of £20, which is cheap compared to what it could have been in other places.

The hotel itself is situated at the back of the resort away from all the noise of the strip, yet only a 2 minute walk away if that’s what you like. In contradiction to a previous comment, yes the bar staff play music, but no, they do not carry it on in to the early hours and if they do it was never loud after midnight. The noise was in fact coming from the Montebello resort hotel at the back of the Blue Lagoon. The pool area is excellent, with the pool itself all one depth and the water very warm by midday. There are enough sunbeds for everyone in the hotel, however, in a typically British manner people still felt the need to reserve beds with towels and then go out for most of the day, but we never really had a problem getting one.

The quality of the food in this hotel is excellent and was comparable if not better than most of the meals we had in restaurants in Oludeniz. The breakfast is extremely fresh and typically Turkish, but cereal and toast are available too and every other day the chef will make omelettes and pancakes to your taste. We had two evening meals in the hotel and numerous lunches. All were of excellent quality and if there is something that is not on the menu that you wanted George and Lefta were more than happy to help. This was particularly useful as both myself and my partner are vegetarian and fussy eaters. As well as the standard menu there is a buffet available with daily specials which is excellent. You can either chose to have this as your meal or have a main off the a la carte menu and pick starters from the buffet. I would definitely recommend paying the extra for the buffet on Turkish night if you are staying on a B&B basis. The Turkish night itself was a scream, with all the staff joining in and George being particularly entertaining as usual.

In contradiction to a very naïve comment in a previous post with regards to the earthquake, yes Turkey does suffer with them but they are never usually 6.1s in this area. The staff at the hotel were as shocked and as traumatised as the holidaymakers and there was nothing they could have done had the worst happened. There was no warning that it was going to happen, leaving us all in the same boat and after speaking to numerous locals in the shops on the strip and being witness to the sheer panic on the beach front when it struck, they had never experienced anything as strong as that either. Credit to the bar staff on the day as they tried their best to cheer everyone up that afternoon and carry on with things as normal, bearing in mind that most of the staff and their families live in Fethiye which suffered more damage and a bigger tremors than Oludeniz, giving them a very good reason to be worried.

Overall we had a fantastic stay at this hotel and we will be back next year. Our holiday would have been nowhere near as enjoyable if it wasn’t for the staff and their friendly, entertaining nature. The customer service in Turkey really puts the treatment we have had in the likes of Spain, at double the price, to shame. Thank you particularly to George, who really is a special man and friend, also to Lefta, Mustafa and Metin and all the boys in the restaurant and bar.

we absolutely loved our time at the Blue Lagoon Hotel, all of the previous good reviews are well justified.Rooms were cleaned daily, always fresh towels etc, George and all the staff couldnt have been more friendly or helpful...nothing was ever a problem. The pool was always immacculate, with no surprising slopes i.e same depth [ great even if you cant swim] Olu Deniz is a beautiful place , stunning scenery and lovely friendly people. We will definitely be going back as soon as we can.

Just returned from The Blue Lagoon (Deluxe) Hotel. What a fantastic hotel this is. We had a fabulous time, apart from the earthquake, of course. All credit to the Turks that built this resort as every building withstood the earthquake. I was by the pool when the earthquake occurred.
The hotel is spotless. The food is excellent. Plenty to eat in the morning at breakfast, and as much as you want. The snacks during the day are excellent and reasonably priced. The evening meals are superb and again reasonably priced. The towels and shower mat are changed every day and I lost count how many times our bed was changed during our 10 day stay. The grounds are well maintained and the pool is unbelievably clean. All the sunbeds have cushions on them.
The staff, I cannot praise enough. Headed by George, who is a lovely man. He is also very entertaining, especially on the Turkish night. He mingles with the guests and soon becomes a "friend". There is also Lefter and Musty in the restaurant who will also go out of their way to ensure you have a good time. Behind the bar are Mustafa and Mirtin, a couple of jokers who also go out of their way to ensure you have a good holiday!!
An excellent hotel, at the top of the main strip, so not too noisy at night.
So, if you want waiting on hand and foot and being made to feel really special this is the hotel for you!
Incidentally we were a party aged 55,53,27,22 and we all enjoyed it equally.

Arrived early hours in the morning (4:30am) after a long transfer and greeted by a misserable receptionist who made no sense and could not answer our questions.
We got shown to our bottom floor room which was number 140, to our suprise it looked nothing like the pictures provided on thomas cook or trip advisors website, the bathroom looked nice but was constructed to a poor standard, the toilet was slanted so you slipped off it whilst doing your business, it also leaked making a puddle on the floor, the shower was very spacious but could only get warm water on an evening, the towel rail was siliconed into place by the hotel DIY man who clearly has no sense of DIY which resulted in our towels always falling off onto the wet toilet water filled floor, the hair dryer was also 'glued' together with silicone which fell to bits once heated up! i was most digusted by the fact we could see the room aboves soil 'poo' pipe through the latted ceiling of our bathroom which resulted in being able to hear using and then flushing the toilet, was really loud whilst trying to get some sleep which was impossible anyway due to the bar staff blasting their 90's music out until 3am usually ( the music is promised to be turned off at 12am).
We called reception about our outside light not working, the 'DIY' man came the morning after but ignored our 'DONT DISTURB' door hanger and came in anyway..
Me and my girlfriend found the manager 'George' who everyone speaks so highly of rude and obnoxious, if you don't spend money at his bar or on his ice creams you won't get a nice word out of him nor will he even acknowledge you, all the while he's making his cakes and ice creams sound free coaxing you to take them....after you have eaten them he runs back round with his little note pad demanding your room number, not that we expected free food anyway.
We attended the Turkish themed night at the hotel, as we were half board it was free but unfortunatley for those who were B&B had to pay 30L each, which in my eyes was expensive for a team of unorganised dancers, rubbish knife throwers and a belly dancer who didn't belly dance.....maybe flab dance??
As for the food...it is not to the English taste, cold bland food, not really worth going half board as you can eat out very cheaply anywhere in Olu Deniz and get lovely, warm food which is much more enjoyable.
On the day we were leaving we had to be out of our room by 12noon, we were scheduled to leave at 11pm, so as you can imagine this was not ideal for preparing ourselves for our long journey home, there was however a small, dank shower in the toilets downstairs for our use at the end of the day, other than that we were offered the chance to spend yet more money renting out a room in another hotel for showering facilites....no thanks. Also, at the end of our stay we were stampeded by the bar staff, ordered by George, to urgently pay 8L for a burger I had ordered earlier in the day which made a scene and made us look like theives....even though we had not paid our tab yet due to leaving much later in the day.
The waiters were a credit to the hotel and made our stay welcoming as they couldn't do enough for you as they were very friendly and provided an excellent service at meal times.
Overall we did not enjoy our stay in the Blue Lagoon hotel, we are a 20 year old couple and can put up with most things (partying etc) but this was taking the mick as we did expect to sleep at some point in our once a year, paid holiday. However, Olu Deniz is a beautiful place, the lagoon is gorgeous and the locals are friendly.
Thanks for reading our review
