“"Relaxing and quiet" - ideal getaway!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2009

We have just returned from a week at the Tower Hotel and have to say that it was an excellent hotel bearing in mind what we paid. Its just off the main road down into Olu Deniz about a 10 minute gentle stroll into the main area of bars and restaurants. It's in a slight hill but nothing too steep unless you have real mobility issues.

The rooms, although slightly small, are spotlessly clean and well maintained with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The maid visited every day and provided clean shets and towels. We only went B&B so cannot commemnt on the evening meals but the breakfast was OK - typical Turkish breakfast consisting of fruit juices, cereals, ham, cheese etc and on a few occasions boiled or scrambled eggs. We had lunch at the poolside which was very good food and not bad value bearing in mind you are in a hotel. They really have the British tourist sussed out as the ycome round at 4pm every day with a trolley serving tea coffe and cakes!

We did not see any poolside entertainment and it was very quiet around the pool - maybe it is different during school holiday times? One minor gripe is the barmans choice of music which for the last 3 days or so tended to lean towards gangsta rap! Not everyones cvup of tea.

Staff are generally friendly and pleasant and we would happily recommend this hotel to others.

Nightlife in Olu Deniz is a varied mix. We ate in an assortment of restaurants and really enjoyed Help Bar for their great menu and atmosphere. If you love seafood go to Captain Hooks on the main strip. The food is excellent and prepared on a barbecue so really tasty. If you want to go on a saturday night the guy on the entrance will probably say to book. I would recommend you do as its not a trick to get you in, we didnt book and couldnt get in on the last night of the holiday!

Having spent two amazing weeks in the Tower Hotel in 2008 (we loved the hotel and the lovely staff, in particular Tommy and Ibo) we went back this year full of high expectations. On our first day, we were approached by the Manager asking if we wanted to go to the Turkish evening. Unfortunately my daughter was unwell for the first three days (ending up in hospital suffering with gastronenteritis and dehydration) and so we didn't want to commit ourselves to anything until we knew she was feeling better. That was our first sin!!! On our second evening my daughter was still not feeling well so we stayed at the hotel and ordered her a pizza. Eventually it arrived but was completely burnt. We complained and were told by the Manager that it was just a bit crispy!!! By this time she needed to go back to our hotel room and so we did not take up the offer of another pizza (we had already waited about 45 minutes for the first one to appear) but said we would have a free drink instead to make up for this. When we did eventually get it it turned out to be a free cup of tea!! That was our second sin and thereafter the Manager didn't speak to us and made us feel most unwelcome.
As for the barman, he started off very friendly. However one evening two of our very good turkish friends from last year insisted on walking us home. My son had been with us for the first week and when he left these friends insisted that they should take his place and we must be walked home. However we can only assume that the barman who saw us arrive back at the hotel, got totally the wrong impression and from then onwards refused to speak to us.

The attitude of both these members of staff was very upsetting, particularly as last year's staff had been so lovely and friendly. However the cleaners and one of the reception staff are very nice and friendly. Also, to be fair, the Manager and Barman were very friendly and nice to those they liked - presumably those who attended the turkish night and also anybody with young children seemed to be popular. (Mine are 18 and 21 so we didn't qualify) It wasn't just us though and several other people complained about how unfriendly the staff were.

Having said all that, the Hotel is lovely and clean and the pool area is great. We will go back to Olu Deniz next year but will monitor early reviews about the hotel staff to see if we will again book the Tower Hotel or go elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 week (thank goodness) from 29th August - 4th Sept.

The rooms are very small and very basic although on a positive note they are cleaned every day and were clean.

The staff are really miserable with the exeption of Typhoon. We found Sonny moody and did not speak until he wanted us to book the Turkish night then he was our best friend and hung around a bit too much. The rest of the brekfast staff were unhappy the only reason I can think of is that it was ramadam whilst we were there and they were fasting....and were envious of us eating.

We stayed B & B the breakfast is the same every day and consist of: tea & coffee, bread (with crap toaster that you have to toast 4 times!!) two kind of cerial, Water melon, olives, meat, cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, jam, honey, boiled eggs and little sweet bread things. I would not expect a fry up (nor would I want one) but a little variety would have been good and maybe some more fruit?

The pool area was sufficient but we did not spead much time there also the drinks are much more than you pay anywhere else. As others have mentioned food and drink is not allowed to be bought into the hotel (there is a big sign) we hid ours in our beach bag as for example the water is half the price in the shop 50 metres down the road. We did see people being stopped if their bottle of water was in their hand!

We did attend the Turkish night (as Sonny would not take no for an answer) and it was good fun and the food was good. Down side is that Sonny sings with no music!

I have thought of another positive about this hotel it is about 5 mins from the beach and is out of town so it is not at all noisy around. We used Sugar Beach on the lagoon it was lovely and tranquil down there (sun beds are great too they are wooden and have a clean sheet over the pad every day) also the bar/restaurant is run by a couple of Brits. and the guys on the beach are friendly and happy.

The other odd thing about this hotel is that they insist you put everything you eat or drink on a tab. We tried to clear this every few days as it soon mounts up (advice from previous reviewer) then at the end of our stay we had about £100 to settle I wanted to pay by debit card but was told there would be an additional charge for paying by card so I said we would get the cash in town and pay later (this was about 18.00 we were being picked up at 22.45), she reluctenly said ok and when we came back to pay she was so relieved!! even though our suitcases were still at the hotel - very untrusting.

Overall I would say the rooms are small and basic, the staff need some people skills training but good location.

We stayed on a B&B basis but on a few evenings we were too lazy to go out so we paid 15 Turkish Lira for the evening meal. Great - choice of two hot dishes (or both) plus a vast array of different salads, etc. Always a nice soup to start and a simple desert of melon or some kind of cake/pudding thingy. Great value. They have a very good chef.
Breakfasts were a simple offering of delicious Turkish bread and jam, cheese, sausage and if you are early eggs, etc. The tea was from a giant urn and was AWFALL. But we are very fussy about our tea. Take your own and a decent sized mug. A full cooked breakfast was available for 12TL. Never tried it but I imagine it would be good - all the food was. Breakfasts are available everywhere in Oludeniz - usually about 7TL.

The rooms were all very nice, very clean indeed. The maids did a great job. The rooms all had a balcony albeit small. We had a view of the pool. AIrcon is an extra £3 per day - well worth it in August. A safe for valuables is £1 per day.

The pool is well kept - some contention at peak times for the sun beds - usual problem of people leaving their towels on them and going off down the town, etc. Greedy and selfish and they were not even Germans. But not a major problem.

Nice bar area by the pool and another bar upstairs that was open in the evenings. Typhoon (yes thats his name) was the friendly barmen. A real jokester and keen to please. ALL the staff were really friendly and we found them to be keen to please and always keen to chat. Despite major language problems.

I will definitely go back to this hotel.

We had a number of holiday representatives claiming us as their customers - we had booked online and were unsure who we were with. They all claim to offer the best trips, etc. But at the end of the day they are basically selling the same trips.

It's worth checking out the agencies in Oludeniz (5 minute walk) and getting a good deal. But check out the small print and make sure that they are selling what they say.

Do not use the agency by the Hotel - Seahorse - they ripped us off big time and were extremely rude and aggressive. This was the only problem we had during our stay.

Also, be careful if you go on boat trips as at certain times it can be a teeny bit tricky boarding the boats. Older people and anyone with any disabilities should be aware. We hired speedboats on a couple of occasions which was absolutely brilliant but beware as the boats can be a bit tatty - none of the dials work, if you run out of fuel and use the spare you are charged £40????? Also take care when boarding and getting off as it can be tricky on the steeply shelving pebble beach.

Take plenty of sterling with you - you get a better deal in cash.

Olusdeniz has some great bars and restaurants but the place is very touristy indeed and the continual touting from restaurants and bars gets you down a bit.

That said we have been twice and want to go again so it must be good. Go before the dreaded euro arrives.

Enjoy.

We had a great time at the Tower Hotel,
Rooms are small but then we didnt spend much time in the rooms other then sleeping and washing!! Maids did a great job in keeping the rooms clean
Despite some reviews we found ALL STAFF to be helpfull and friendly especially Sonar and Typhoon!!
Food at the hotel was nice, Must go to the Turkish night we had a fab night with great food and entertainment
Nice pool with plenty of sun beds
The only down side to Oludeniz is the beach, from the pictures we see the beaches look like white sand, but turned out to be shingle beach with big stones, beach shoes are recommended!!
restaurants to try,
Oyster Residence, Help bar, Buzz Bar, La Mare, Simone's, Sultan Ahmet, thats just a few we never had a bad meal in 2 weeks!!
Must do the Paragliding, was amazing
Over all we had a great time in Oludeniz and at the Tower Hotel

Great location as only 5 mins from the lovely Oludeniz bay which really is as blue as the brochures say it is. We found this family-run hotel very clean and the cleaners very friendly, which cannot be said for the head waiter or upper management. The head waiter was very attentive in the beginning but then when we did not want to attend the Turkish Night at an extra cost of 30 lira pp he ignored us for the rest of the week and were made to feel unwelcome and not given table service. We were already half board and was not prepared to pay again for our meal!! We were given a table at the back in a corner away from everyone and our table was ignored by waiting staff - we didnt mind as it saved us buying their expensive drinks!! The female manager treated us like naughty school children when we brought in a bottle of water from outside which we found humilating and unprofessional - we thought we were going to be frisked on each occasion - not for the sensitive. The cost of drinks was expensive and lunchtime bar snacks very poor and costly. The evening meal was good and plenty of it although similar everynight. The shady pergola seating area was a favourite relaxing time out of the sun. A couple of the bar staff tried hard to be friendly and funny and were a breath of fresh air compared to the solemn faces of the younger family members who would be over zealous in removing your glass before you had finished drinking. Air conditioning is extra of £3 a day and is needed as can get very hot. Ample bars and restaurants with good entertainment close to the resort and good beach to visit day and night although invest in some beach shoes as pebbly by the water and hard to walk across. Lots of touts for trips so worth shopping around but all doing the same and enjoyed some good days out - paragliding is a must for the area. Would definitely go to Oludeniz again but would prefer to stay in a more friendly hotel.

When we arrived in the middle of the night we found our rooms had no room to swing a cat, hardly any bedding, a curtain hanging off and ants nests! We asked to move room but the management said it would not be possible and weren't at all helpful. Saying that the rooms were kept very clean during our stay. The breakfast couldn't be more basic and the evening meals were repetitive with very little choice. In the end we ate out for our meals. Do not attempt to take any food or water bought from elsewhere into this hotel...you will be pounced on by staff...eyes are everywhere..it's a family run hotel but the staff appear miserable and not in the slightest bit friendly. This is so alien to how we have found the Turkish staff on other hols and we have been to Turkey many times. Also if you have children there is no entertainment but that could be a positive if a quiet hotel is what you want. The hotel is in a beautiful location and could be improved so much with better food and improved service and attitude from the staff and our holiday would have been so much better if we had have been room only and hadn't had such dreadful rooms.
