Magic Tulip Oludeniz
Ranked #69 of 102 Hotels in Oludeniz
Reviewed September 22, 2008

For my first time in Turkey I got into the Magic Tulip, and I can't believe the bargain I got too!

The double room was clean and well done out, with a good quality shower. The balcony overlooking the pool was the highlight though, as it was made of stone and had a couple of benches and a decent table so it was much better than the usual plastic stuff. I did ask for a twin room however as I was there with a female friend, and got a double instead but this didn't prove to be so bad ;o)

Contrary to the other users here, I found the staff to be friendly - in fact quite amusing. Myself and my travel partner had some great banter with the bar lads and the drinks, while expensive, were certainly generous - they don't know when to stop pouring the whiskey and rum!

We ate at the hotel each morning to a continental/local style of breakfast (boiled eggs, toast, tomatoes, cheese, some kind of pastry thingy) which was nothing special but if need be there were places locally that did English breakfasts (why bother when abroad though?). The evening meal we had was well prepared and reasonable. The belly dancer night with the barbecue was fantastic and good fun (I got dragged up to dance!) and we were placed with other guests on a long table so we easily got chatting away.

The only downsides really were things like something flooding one day which caused an awful smell - this was cleared up by the evening. And one poor girl got locked in a toilet when the lock broke (I heard her shouting and had to help!), but the guys soon sorted that out. We also got to the hotel and found that we had to pay extra for the aircon and fridge which is a bit mean, as nowhere on Thomsons did they specify this, and advertised it as having aircon, thereby leading my assumption.

Location-wise it's just far enough away from the front to be quiet, and close to a shop with reasonably priced goods. For instance, flip flops and a hat cost 14YTL (about £5-6) at the shop opposite, whereas one shop at the beach front tried bartering down from 40YTL, got to about 35YTL which was £15! So I walked up the street and got a much better deal. It's only a 10 minute walk to the beach front which is good.

There's tons to do in Olu Deniz, we went paragliding, scuba diving and on the Dalyan Check Out tour. It's an amazing place. Sugar Beach is fantastic, the main beach is busy but good, it's overall an amazing place.

The bad reviews must have had an effect because everyhing at Magic Tulip was perfect when we went.

Reception staff couldn't have been more helpful or more friendly - especially needed after a 19 hour delay!

Rooms were adequate and beautifully clean. And kept clean by regular visits from cleaning staff.

Yes, the staff don't wear uniforms - but hey, the guy sitting behind reception and the other one behind the bar are the staff - is that so difficult? ;-) They have a small crew so you soon recognise them and they certainly recognise you and are very friendly and courteous.

The pool was lovely and clean and very well maintained.

The restaurant had a resonable selection of good food and they hold a weekly Turkis Belly Dancing barbeque evening - not to be missed - you will all be expected to join in - do so its great fun :-)

The hotel is excellently positioned one road away from the main street meaning everything is very accessible but you aren't bothered by any noise.

The lagoon is within easy walking distance and is well worth it.

We booked a few trips - all were excellent - we would highly recommend "Bloody Gorgeous" tour firm - their jeep safari to Saklikent Gorge was the best day of our lives! Be prepared for water fights between rival jeeps :-) Even the locals got in on the act - old dears standing on the side of the road waiting to ambush the jeeps with hose pipes!! I kid you not! The gorge itself is stunning - take decent footwear that won't be washed off your feet in fast running river - or you can hire from restaurant at end of gorge. View stunning - would recommend waterproof camera though! as first bit to enter gorge is hairy and through deep fast flowing water (only about 10 metres crossing the river) and there are plenty of people on hand to hold you up :-)

I would heartily recommend Olu Deniz and Magic Tulip to anyone!!

Me and my husband went to the magic tulip in 2007, The staff were very rude when we ordered a drink it was banged on the table and the same with the plates and it was like they couldnt wait for you to leave the table coz as soon as you have taken the last mouthful of food they are over trying to take the plates, we never got as much of a smile out of the owners who would just sit and bark orders at every one all day. one of the bar staff asked us if we were english and then laughed and walked away, we have stayed in a lot of hotels in olu deniz we go back every year because we love it there but the magic tulip was the worst by far.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a fortnight back in 2006 and had a wonderful time. The hotel itself if very basic, but very clean and with good service. It is situated in the heart of Olu Deniz and is very close to the beach and other attractions, however we had no problems with noise at all during our stay which was very relaxing.

The staff were very friendly and were always organising special evenings and events, none of which we took part in as there was so much to do elsewhere.

All in all as long as you do not expect too much you will have a fabulous time here and would recommend to anyone.

Ölüdeniz Magic Tulip Hotel
Over the last nine years we have been going to our favourite beach the Suara Beach in Olu Deniz where we became close friends to the owners and staff alike. We detected a general hostile attitude by the hotels towards the beach as it took away people from their swimming pools thus losing some extra profit. The reps told us over the years to ask the hotel receptions to phone the beach if we wanted their free transport to take us there. The hotels refused to do this. Last year we were asked politely by the Magic Tulip Hotel management to stop advertising the Suara Beach on the hotel premises. This we resented as we were not going to be told who to speak to and what we couldn't tell them. The last straw happened as we were waiting for the bus to take us to the airport this year on our last day when the Suara Beach pick-up van stopped outside the gates of the Magic Tulip to say their goodbyes to us and as I went towards them the hotel owner appeared ranting and raving at them thinking that they were touting for business and telling them to clear off. This was most distressing and embarrasing for me and we vowed that we will never go back to the Magic Tulip Hotel ever again. It is a pity because in all other respects we enjoyed our stay their very much.

Having just returned from the Magic Tulip Hotel we found it be small, nice & very clean. The travel agent described it as being run by a traditional turkish family what they failed to mention was that it run by a miserable turkish family. They just about managed a "good morning" each day and that was it. There was no uniform they wore jeans/t shirts so you could tell who was staff and who were holidaymakers. The cleaners were jollier !

The Magic Tulip seriously needs a change of management.

Everything else was fine !
