After reading the negative reviews of sonmez I wasn't sure if I had chosen the right hotel, but after having such a fantastic weeks stay at sonmez, I cannot understand why anyone would slate it so badly. You get exactly what you pay for and in my opinion even more. The room is clean and the shower worked fine which was all we wanted because we new that the only time we would be in there was to sleep and get ready. The pool and bar area is lovely. We had some great nights just drinking at the bar with Jimi and other guests. We had eaten in the restaurant a couple of times but only had breakfast, we were kicking ourselves that we hadn't eaten there more in the evening because we enjoyed a fantastic meal on the last day, again for better value than you would find anywhere else. The location of the hotel is also perfect - a 5-10 minute walk to Hisaronu's nightlife, a 5-10 minute bus ride to Oludeniz Beach and a 10-15 minute journey to Fethiye. All in all we both had a fantastic time and were allowed to enjoy the local area as much as possible because we had a great place to stay with friendly people who would help us out if we were in need. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an affordable place to stay. Don't, like the negative reviewers of this hotel, expect to get 5* facilities with a massive room for such a cheap price. I suggest to those people that they stop being so tight and book themselves into an expensive place, so that they can sit in their room all day looking for faults. We were certainly more than happy with our experience at Sonmez, Jimi and the staff made us feel at home and we definitely want to return.

have only got off the plane an hour ago (after one of those horrendous night flights) but on hearing about the comments that other guests had seen on the website, felt we had to add our thoughts ASAP. definitely not the poshest hotel we have ever stayed at, but it doesnt pretend to be - great family welcome and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Ergun couldnt be more welcoming or helpful, or any more fun, which all goes to making it such a great place to stay, in a fab area. Sue and their son Tarkan add to the whole family experience, the chef, Mehmet, is great and will feed you with whatever you want, whenever you want, and the waiters cannot do enough without ever intruding. we booked a boat trip through Ergun, and despite it being true that it was a bit more expensive than booking it down in the town, it was a wonderful day, with it being exclusive to the hotel guests - NOT thousands of people, just 15 of us from the Sonmez, out for a great day, with a real personal feel to it. as already stated - we're already booked in for 2010. To Ergun and gang - keep up the good work and see you all next year.

Just got back from a two week stay at the sonmez. Had a really good time but can understand some of the bad reviews! Our room was indeed very basic with no room to unpack our cases! The shower didnt work it was either ice cold or scalding hot so we just had to squat under the tap and wash lol We did buy the holiday on the pretense that air con, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge and TV were included but nope you had to pay extra! Overall our room was quite poor but the pool area, food, and people make up for that!

The pool area is quite large for the size of the hotel and on more than one occassion we had the pool to ourselves for the whole day which is good! The food is really good although quite pricey compared to other places. The days we werent on trips we ate lunch in the pool bar and it was suprising very tasty! We got on with jimmy and sue (the owners) - very well and I think if you suck up to him a lil bit and make him think he really is jimmy fix it then he'll make your stay very enjoyable!

The whole area of hisoranu/olu deniz is very good resturants, bars and activties everywhere I would especially recomend the buzz beach bar in olu deniz! Theres so much to do in the area so we never really got bored! I would recomend that you do go on some excursions as it probably would get boring if you stayed in hotel everyday!

All in all a very good holiday, hotel is basic but we thought you get what you pay for so why not just make the most out of it!

Like so many others we had to wait some time for a room & when we eventually got in the room it was disgusting.

We arrived at around 5AM on the 5th of August to be greeted by Mr fix it him self who said there had been a flight delay so he allowed guests to stay an extra night (A complete load of rubbish). He Asked if me and my partner would like to go with his friends to there "House" until the room was ready, which we declined.

There was another group waiting with us in the same position. Tony him self said the rooms should be ready by 8AM so we waited and by the time 8 o clock hit still no room. 9 O Clock passed & Still no Room. Tony (The only one who seemed to know just a little about how to run a business then went off with a minibus full of guests on a trip, leaving us to speak to Sue (Who didn't really have a clue what was going on).

We were eventually after much complaining taken to our room at around 10:30, By this point we just wanted to sleep as we had not slept since Monday. The room we was given was a family room although we booked a standard double en suite room. The room was still being cleaned by the ever so happy staff. The room was TERRIBLE, we did expect basic accommodation but this was below basic and the cleanliness of the room was absolutely terrible. The bathroom was disgusting, the bin hadn't been emptied and the toilet was blocked. We sat around deciding what to do and had a knock on the door by one of the hotel staff who came in and dumped a double bed in the other room that joins on to ours.

We went out to complain to Sue about the dumping of the bed and the cleanliness of the rooms but she didn't really seem bothered (She didn't seem to know much at all about anything). We got our cases and LEFT!!

We walked about 2 Minutes down the road and bumped into a group of English people who called there Turkish friend who found us a lovely apartment with a pool which we rented for 2 weeks

The Hotel was an absolute disgrace and i would NOT recommend anyone to stay there, if you are already booked to stay there then follow advice from others and book lots of trips to stay away from the place, or better yet find another hotel and enjoy your holiday. Olu Deniz is a great place and everyone (Apart from the Sonmez) is really helpful.

My friend and I booked our trip to Olu Deniz and the Sonmez in April after reading the mainly positive reviews on here and looking at the Sonmez's website which looked quite professional. The overall picture seemed to be one of a small, family run hotel where the owners and staff would go out of their way to help you - how far from the truth!

We didn't actually have that many encounters with 'Jimmy' and Sue as we found another hotel to stay in and only spent the first 2 nights there. However, the experience of them that we did have was not a good one. On arrival, having read the more recent reviews, we were half expecting to be taken to a hostel. There was no one around when we arrived (there is no Reception desk or area) and one of the guests around the pool helpfully went to find Sue for us. She came out looking miserable and grunted "you from the holiday company?...i'll try and find out what room he's given you." She didn't seem to be expecting us at all even though when she opened up her diary we were the only people arriving that day. We were told that we would be given an apartment for the night (a big step up from being taken to a hostel although perhaps the hostel would have been better!) and that everyone was leaving that night so we could have a room the next day. She asked us to wait 10 minutes - we thought maybe whilst they cleaned it but in hindsight i think they were just putting towels in there. I've attached photos of the apartment to show the standard of the cleanliness and amenities. Again, we thought air con was included but Jimmy put us right when we asked where the remote control for it was.

The long and short of it was that on the odd occasion we did see Jimmy he gave us another excuse as to why he didn't have a room for us. We hoped that the rooms might have been cleaner than the apartment but having spoken to other guests it would seem that they weren't. We did spend some time in the bar one night with Jimmy where we got an idea of the kind of person he is and he's not a nice one (this was confirmed by someone working in the other hotel we stayed at whose brother had worked at the Sonmez). It would appear that there is minimal communication between him and Sue, and it turns out that that night she had a flight booked and bags packed to leave him and go back to England the next day. This might have explained her misery but she didn't go after all! We did ask her who had designed the website "dunno really, some man in Newcastle" was the answer.

The only other time we saw Jimmy was when we checked out. He started off nice as pie and palmed a load of 'brochures' and cards of the hotel off on us - can assure you these are now in the bin. Then he brought up the bar tab - as mentioned in a review below he had added drinks on that we hadn't had. He took some of these off but not others and we were left counting out our remaining turkish and english coins to find the total of the bill at 1.45am with our transfer bus about to arrive anytime. We were £2 short which he wasn't happy about at all but with no card machine at the hotel or cashpoint nearby there was very little we could do! At no point did he say, "oh don't worry about it, it's only £2". It was a small miracle that he didn't try to charge us for having had an apartment for the week instead of a room.

The space that the hotel is in has so much potential, it is just a shame that it is run by two people who don't seem to have any real pride in their business, no matter how much he talks about how proud he is of his "empire". Sadly, everyone recently seems to have had the same negative experience. If you are already booked to stay there then I would suggest doing what we did and get booked on lots of trips and activities - the area is beautiful and there is so much to do. I'd especially recommend the paragliding. The dolmus bus is fantastic and reasonable so use it to get to Olu Deniz. Book your trips down there, not with Jimmy or the travel agent, they are much cheaper in town. If you're thinking about staying there - don't! In response to the people who have said you get what you pay for, it may be very reasonable but it is advertised as a hotel, not a hostel and to be quite honest, every hostel I have stayed in (including in developing countries) has been cleaner than the Sonmez. If Jimmy and Sue read or hear about these reviews or business drops as a result of them, they will hopefully rethink the service they are providing. At least staying in Fawlty Towers would be amusing - this place hasn't even got that!
