“One of the best holidays of my life”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

We travelled in a group of 3 families, 6 adults and 10 children, and we all had an absolutely wonderful time.

Let me start by disagreeing with a couple of other reviews. All the reception staff spoke good English and most of the waiters across the resort had a decent understanding, so we never faced any language issues. Yes, the majority of clients were Russian but we did not encounter any problems with them nor did we see the rude side referred to by others.

This was the first time we had an "all-inclusive" holiday and it really was value for money. The selection of food at the buffet restuarant was amazing but we could only have one meal a day there for fear of putting on the pounds!

The facilities are amazing and there are activities to keep all members of the family entertained. Although the hotel was full during our stay, we did not feel it was bursting at the seams. The main pool is massive and the slides pool great fun for kids and their parents. There is a nice beach with all sorts of watersports - we did parasailing. We also went scuba diving off-site, in the sea surrounded by mountains. Once we finished swimming for the day and cleaned up, we would spend an hour or two in the games room. The kids would play bowling and video games as the Dads played billiards. Then we would head off to dinner with a number of very high quality a la carte restaurants to choose from. The Turkish, Italian and seafood restaurants were all excellent. To top it all off, there is a show at the amphi-theatre every night. You can also enjoy a shisha by the pool at night if this takes your fancy. Other activities include table tennis, water gym and belly dancing lessons!

We will definitely be returning to this resort.

I am rarely moved to write a review, but the experience at this hotel made me take the time out to write one. We visited Calista from 27th July to 3rd August 2010 and I have to say that I have never stayed in such a superb hotel. You could tell that all the staff from the front desk to the waiters and waitresess were pround to be part of the team. Yes - the buffet can get a little busy at peak times, but there was never a problem finding a table and contrary to some reports that I have read - we didn't have any problems whatsoever with the Russian guests. We also never had a problem to find a vacant sunbed (even after breakfast). I would highly recommend paying the extra 5 Euros per person to dine in the a-la-carte restaurants. We tried almost all of them and our favourite was the Italian where the service was outstanding and the food - well just top class! Be careful in the seafood restaurant because if you wish to partake of fresh lobster or king prawns, then be prepared to pay a LOT of extra money for these delicasies. Also, the small shop in the hotel which sells a variety of goods is VERY expensive, so if you forget to pack your toiletries - buy them in Belek! Not so many English guests here, but we didn't go there to socialise and make freinds, we just wanted a wonderful relaxing holiday, and that's what we got. If you are thinking about choosing this hotel - think no longer, you won't regret it.

Booked this hotel in May after my Husband came here for a conference in March. Readother people's reviews and was worried - all for nothing!! There was a mixed clientele - every nationality and age. We stayed for 5 nights with our kids 6, 11 and 14 years. It as not too busy - just nice . There was a buzz but there were always sun loungers. The food was excellent in the buffet and there was always lots of seating. The pools were great - we played tennis swam in the sea and played ok. Th evening entertainment is ok - the comedy show was dire and inappropriate for a family audience with one sketch being around a condom.

Overall I would recommend the hotel. Staff did speak English and were very helpful We will come back at Easter for 10days

This was our second trip to Belek, after staying at the Susesi De Luxe last year. Susesi was fantastic and I was wondering if Castilla would be as good.

Good points about Castilla.
1.Always easy to get a sun lounger round the pool
2. Better entertainment (Susesi was pretty average, Castilla was v good)
3. No trouble booking restaurants
4. Excellent communal restaurant (nice sitting out in the evening round the pool)

On the down side -
1. The service in the outside bars was often very slow (Susesi employ more staff to serve you and they apprear to be more attentive)
2. If only Castilla could copy the Susesi customer service ethincs (Their service is just really good, the best I've seen outside of staying in a Ritz Carlton)
3. The air conditioning in the main hotel building was just a bit too warm

On balance I would have to say that for me, Castilla came out on top. (Can't quite see why it's 33/60 whereas Susesi is 5/60).

Happy to answer any questions if you are thinking about staying in either.

We've been in this hotel in June 2009 and in July 2010 (moving from another hotel which we did not like).

From all the place I've been to in Antalya, to me, Calista is the most balanced one, real value for money.

The rooms are big and elegant and very clean. Nice outdoor, good swiming pools, nice club for kids.

Good food in all restaurant.

Have just returned form Calista this morning and will try to be honest, although my review is obviously subjective.

Good points.
Excellent rooms. Large, clean and comfortable with great air con, free wine and fruit and lots of toiletries plus robes and slippers.
The food is excellent and the best I have tasted in an all inclusive hotel. We only ate in the main buffet restaurant at lunch and on the last evening as prefer waiter service and the cover charge of 5 euros is well worth it.
Seafood was our favourite, then South American, Japanese, Italian and Barbecue. We thought the BBQ and Italian disappointing in comparison to the others.
The animation and entertainment is generally good, bearing in mind they are trying to cater for all tastes and you can do other things if it's not your scene. There were a couple of shows that were truly awful!

The Russians are rude, agressive and arrogant, and they unfortunately make up 95% of the clientele. I thank God we did not choose to eat in the main buffet restaurant, as on our last night it was like a bun fight at the zoo. I would have lost my temper if I had had to eat there at their sheer lack of manners.

The reception staff hardly speak a word of English, only Turkish, German (and yes you've guessed it) Russian. If you are booking a speciality restaurant, get written confirmation as the booking doesn't always go through. Children under 12 pay only 50% of the cover charge, but you need to tell the waiters before you sign the bill, or the attempted conversation to rectify this with reception is painful!

The morning ritual of having to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a sunbed is quite frankly, tiresome. If you do not perform this ritual, you will not get a lounger in the shade; a ridiculous situation for a 5* hotel in my opinion.

The spa shold be a wonderful place to relax, especially as you have no option but to go here on your last day (more later) but unfortunately it is full of screaming badly behaved Russian children. Perhaps my timing was off, but I wasn't impressed.

The most annoying thing of all has to be the charge levied for a late check out (should you wish to pay the huge rip off price of 75 Euros per person) and I might add, this is only until 6.00pm. Should you wish to extend your stay until 10.00pm, it will cost you 100 Euros per person. Enough said.

All in all it was a good holiday. The room was great and the food was extremely good. The pools are impressive and the waiting staff are friendly and attentive (their English is also slightly better) I would say that the hotel is not really suited to the British market, and that Thomson really need to get their act together and negotiate more favourable late check out rates and impress upon the hotel management, the need for basic English. The hotel Doctor does however speak good English (should you have the misfortune to have to visit him, as I did) although the nurse speaks not one word.

Am happy to answer any questions.
