First and foremost – if you can’t live without bacon for your breakfast this is not the hotel for you. However, if you love great food, nice surroundings, very friendly, hardworking and efficient staff and spotlessly clean facilities, I can recommend the Papillon Zeugma.
We arrived on the 1st May and were allocated room 1101. This is a massive room with a double and single bed, two seating areas (which made down into beds if needed), extensive wardrobes and two TVs, it has a very large balcony and a whirlpool bath. The two drawbacks we found with this room were: the smell of drains in the bathroom (we reported this to our rep but it didn’t improve) and its position over the kitchens and close to the lifts, however, this did not detract in any way from the holiday which was excellent.
We enjoyed all the evening entertainment in the bar, the barmen and waiters worked really hard but we have to admit there was often a delay in being able to get drinks later in the evening when the bar was really full.
In terms of the theatre entertainment, we really enjoyed the Beijing tumblers and the circus performers, however I had reservations in relation to the two shows we saw which were staged by the animation team themselves as I felt they were not age appropriate for children, in Aladdin a team of male dancers perform a striptease to “You can keep your hat on” and in the Sketch Show a lady is shown having a rather explicit extra marital affair. In addition, all the shows started with and contained flashing lights with no advance warnings and at the start of the Aladdin show members of the team distributed Turkish Delight to the audience, which contained nuts.
We used only one of the speciality restaurants, the Asian China Garden, the food was faultless and beautifully served. However, I have to commend the buffet restaurant for the standard of food which was outstanding. I can’t imagine anyone being unable to find something suitable from the range. The chocolate fountains in different flavours every evening have put inches on my waistline.
We didn’t use the hotel spa as compared to a local health spa recommended by our travel rep, it proved to be very expensive. We couldn’t fault the local spa which was absolutely first rate and about half the price of the hotel spa so if you would like details please do let me know.
Please note that the friends we travelled with stayed just down the beach at the Papillon Ayscha last October and were expecting an upgrade at the Papillon Zeugma this visit but apparently their loyalty scheme only relates to your returning to the same hotel, not the same hotel chain, which seems odd and proved a major disappointment.
We would definitely return to this hotel and would like to thank all the staff but particularly Osman, who looked after us at breakfast, Denis from the animation team and all the bar staff.
