The visit to Hisa Refoska was one of the highlights of our few days in Slovenia. We were passing with a Slovenian friend who decided to briefly stop to show us the wine cellar next to the restaurant. What was expected to be a ten minute stop turned into two hours (which felt like ten minutes). We got talking to the Manager about the region and its wines which in turn led to an impromptu wine and food tasting session. He had extensive knowledge and infectious enthusiasm for Refosk wine and the excellent Slovenian dishes he offered us. We felt we were being entertained by a generous and passionate host, eager to enlighten us outsiders of all his home has to offer. It was this genuine, sincere, engagement that made us feel like guests, and what made this pitstop so memorable.
