Off course a must see for Tomar, but local touristoffice should do a little work here - get some information up when / who / why etc

This is a bit difficult to find, but worth it. The aqueduct used to serve the castle with water and goes on for about half a kilometre - most of it still in good condition.
There is a parking area and you can climb up and walk the length of it, if brave enough! But be careful as the wall on the top is rather low in places. My husband did the walk, but I chickened out! In the UK "health and safety" would have this sealed off, but hey! this is Portugal!
Amazing to think how they built this without the technology of today. There is no charge.

This is so impressive.and certainly worth a visit. If you don't fancy going up the steps (with no rail) to the top, just follow the track to the right and you will have an excellent view.

after misreading the road signs and getting turned around, we eventually located a place to where we could climb up on top - fantastic views of surrounding countryside and road below.
Its high on top, no guard rails so hand on when its windy! a bit scary looking down but with eyes looking straight ahead, walk across the double decker level.
Worth the detour in conjuntion with the Convento do Cristo (in Tomar proper).

The short drive outside town is well worth it to see this amazing aqueduct from close-up. Superbly preserved and open (free) to visit, it is a superb piece of engineering which almost looks as if it could be used today
