This is a small restaurant which offers a dozen choices each day from a large menu - you are given the main menu and the then item numbers for the meals on offer that day. On the whole I would describe the food as 'country cooking' - wholesome, flavoursome food with no frills.
We were part of a large group that almost took over the restaurant, locals who arrived after us struggled to find a table. Despite the large group, service was prompt, friendly and the food well-cooked - we had better service than at much larger restaurants with plenty of staff . The local version of sausage, egg and chips recommended by one of the locals was excellent, others chose more traditional Portugese fare. Great atmosphere - informal but with the lively buzz of locals sharing their news and sharing banter with the waitress. The local wine on offer was good and overall the whole meal including the home-made dessert and coffee was very good value for money. If we visit Tomar again, we'll be back.
