This is a small restaurant which offers a dozen choices each day from a large menu - you are given the main menu and the then item numbers for the meals on offer that day. On the whole I would describe the food as 'country cooking' - wholesome, flavoursome food with no frills.

We were part of a large group that almost took over the restaurant, locals who arrived after us struggled to find a table. Despite the large group, service was prompt, friendly and the food well-cooked - we had better service than at much larger restaurants with plenty of staff . The local version of sausage, egg and chips recommended by one of the locals was excellent, others chose more traditional Portugese fare. Great atmosphere - informal but with the lively buzz of locals sharing their news and sharing banter with the waitress. The local wine on offer was good and overall the whole meal including the home-made dessert and coffee was very good value for money. If we visit Tomar again, we'll be back.

Helpful and happy ladies provide the welcome to this small popular local restaurant where good cooking and reasonable priced menu are shared by the locals and tourists. Paula, the chef, and Josefina her mother, "woman" the kitchen and offer advice, (in French) about the hot nourishing fresh vegetable soup and the freshly cooked dishes from the tourist menu. Our steak and chips and duck and rice dishes were copious, tender and tasty served with a smile from one of the two waitresses...the restaurant is entirely run by women who treat is as an extension of their homes, and that is how it feels. A delicious homemade dessert of folded sponge and cream with a coulis of apricot and fresh coffee followed. Bom proveito!
After a morning sightseeing at the Convento de Cristo it was wonderful to discover this little gastronomic jewel. I understand that the restaurant is also open in the evenings but closed on Sundays.
