The park is on the edge of the city. We walked from the other side but a bus or taxi would have been advisable at once you get there you can easily walk another couple of miles around the park.

The scenery is lovely and there is a fantastic variety of plants. Many were in flower. Saw quite a lot of birdlife too. Very peaceful.

There's a small entry fee.

This park feels unspoiled and at one with nature. There were good paths to cycle along and several large, accessible by ramp sheds to indulge in birdwatching. We found some old water mills made up as museums inside where we could find out some of the fascinating history of the area. There was a bird sanctuary and it was lovely to see the greener side of Portugal.

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is excellent, so many birds, shells and beaches.
It is a very peaceful area and very natural, you can see the fishermen hauling in their catch.

Me and my girlfriend had heard so much about this park from the locals and finally decided to visit together one afternoon.
Our first disappointment was the price, see I know very well that if you live in Portugal and can provide a NIF number you can enter many places for free. We don’t live here so if courues we are okay to pay. However the locals we talked to told us the entrance was 2€ per persons, as I read the reviews here I notice some people said they paid 2,70 but we paid 2,80 to get in. Either the price is going up every month or someone is having a laugh but either way it didn’t feel nice. A simple sign with a fixed price could be nice to clear things up but so far it’s the old guy at the gate who decides the price I guess...
Our next disappointment was how small it was, when we saw the map given to us we thought we could spend the afternoon but we were done under two hours and we REALLY took our time there.
It’s nice to know than we can actually go in the water but you’ll probably want to avoid it as it all looks a little dirty, or even polluted in some areas. Didn’t see much animals out there except a few birds, but it was a hot day. There were a lot of bird watchers and bird watching areas so if you are into that it could be a good place for you. The “Roman ruins” are slightly unimpressive but that’s me. And finally is the place allowing dogs? Well we don’t know for sure, the sign outside the gates says no but the people walking their dogs inside can make you confuse. I guess it’s like the price, it “depends”.
Still a nice little walk for a summer afternoon but I just can’t give it more than half marks.
