A restaurant transformed - without doubt the best Portuguese cuisine in Burgau. Now run by the owners son, the meal we had tonight was superb. Boneless fish stew delicately cooked with herbs and sea bass fillets were delicious. Followed by flaming fig pudding and Moscatel wine. 5 star dining at a very reasonable price.

We ate twice here during our week long stay in Burgau and on both occasions had an absolutely top quality meal.

The food was the best available in Burgau .... The goats cheese starter was really top class restaurant standard ... I have been trying to replicate at home ... No success yet .... May need to come back to Burgau again! Meanwhile on to the mains ... The prawn and monkfish skewers were just beautiful and the sides of potatoes and salad were simple and tasty. We had the almond tart with ice cream and that was just the best .... And that's from folks who don't normally eat puddings!

Hopefully we will get back to Burgau soon and we will be back to O Refugio.

We went there to eat some Portuguese food and we were not disappointed. Both starters and main dishes were very tasty and the local wine that the waiter recommended was simply awesome! Everything about this place - the food, the drinks and the atmosphere makes you want to come back. So I recommend it very very much :)

We visited this restaurant on Friday 11th July, and weren't disappointed. Bruno, the front of house/waiter made sure all was ok without being intrusive. My starter of clams was superb, fresh and the flavours well balanced. The main course of monkfish and prawns was a flavour fest also, not a hint of the meat drying out in the bbq process. The local wine that Bruno suggested was light and dry, exactly what we asked for. The olive oil and balsamic was also delicious, a perfect partner to the salad, dipping bread into it was a treat. Very good Portuguese fare in a nice setting.

We had been looking forward to this experience given the previous posted positive feedback. The menu was difficult to read, and the starters were served practically on top of the couvert,we ended up eating both together. The clams were slow to materialise, and in the end it was suggested to only have one portion between two and "eat quickly" as mains were on their way! We all had steaks, however the medium rare Portuguese steaks were too well done. The pepper steaks were delicious and cooked well. The baked potatoes were much nicer than the hand cooked fries, which were in reality homemade crisps. The side salads turned up a bit late!
The desserts were mainly cake served with ice-cream. The almond cake was testing to the teeth, covered in a nutty brittle. The ice cream at additional cost was nice. Shame it didn't live up to expectations as the surroundings were pretty.
