I’ve been in O Refugio several times and the food was always fresh and beautifully cooked. I tried the selection of daily specials and the Fish Cataplana and both overcame my expectations. Felt like eating from my grandmother’s kitchen.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, the service is very attentive and the menu is authentic Portuguese inspired. Very good starters, great main dishes and awesome deserts!!!
A place to go over and over again!

We had a lovely meal in this restaurant. Service was excellent as were the menu options and the quality of the food. We opted for the fillet steak and the pork collar - both cooked beautifully and accompanied with fresh vegetables. The portions were generous, so much so we had no room left for desert - so will have to return to sample the infamous lemon meringue. The price was surprisingly reasonable given the quality (less than Burgau Beach Bar.... although that was good too!). Would definitely recommend giving O Refugio a try.

Although tiny, Bruno and his team really make a huge effort to ensure that their customers have a great dining experience.
The menu is very authentic and true to the Portuguese traditions. Interesting twists of long time favourite recipes and great in both the summer or on a stormy winter's night.

A lovely restaurant tucked away off the hill leading down to the beach a Burgau. The young man serving us was very attentive and was obviously very proud of the quality of the food. The menu was small but there was a good selection of "specials" which change daily. We all enjoyed a lovely meal although there was too much salt which took away some of the taste of the excellent quality of the cuisine. We would definitely go again but would request at the time of ordering that the addition of salt be kept to a minimum. We chose to share the famous lemon meringue pie but next time we will all be having our own portion!!!
