“Loved this hotel i Borba”
Reviewed August 5, 2011

I stayed here in June 2011 for four nights. I have never experienced a better service in any hotel I have stayed in earlier. Juan and Rita were helpsome and superfriendly., they could recommend restaurants and places to see in any of the nearby cities and also in Lisbon and Cascais where we were going after our stay in Alantejo. Breakfast was delicious. The garden and poolarea was quiet and beautiful. The room was a little dark - but had nice antic furniture. Our room had a private terrace facing the pool area - we loved the terrace.
I will recommend this hotel to anyone going to Alantejo. Borba is a charming small village in Alantejo, about 50 km drive from Evora. Eating out here was really cheap. We had dinner for two (Bacalao) with a bottle of wine, dessert and coffee and only paid 20 euros for the meal.

The room was clean, although in the moment we stepped in, the smell of moist kicked in. The gardens, inhabited by some weird marble figures, weren't well kept.
The location was central, but without a single parking space, and the street was so narrow that we had to park in the sidewalk, and hoped the car survived the imminent scratching.
The room space and presentation was nice, the tea pot still had the water of previous visitors. The TV, not that important, was the size of a pocket size book. The room was dark and the views dreadful.
The service was awkward, the various situation seemed to come from a dark humor TV show. The region has many great quality products, but still the breakfast was poor, in quantity and mainly in quality.
The worst thing is the value for money, they just don't belong in the category that they want to belong. There are other options in the region and that are probably better choices than this "hotel".

Hello Rita and Joa, we had a wonderful time in your guesthouse and enjoyed every minute staying in your house! The atmosphere, the kindness, the garden, the breakfast, it seemed as we were taking part of a fairy tale! We come back, enjoy the next months and please, keep some extra sun for the time we return!

My friend and I stayed at this super fantastic hotel for 3 nights. We had planned to stay for two nights, but it was such a nice place we stayed longer. I can't say enough good things about our experience there. Beautiful, relaxing, comfortable, quiet, nice pool, delicious breakfasts. But best of all, the friendly and helpful owners Joao and Rita, who made our stay in Borba very special. They even helped us plan the rest of our trip and make reservations at some lovely places Joao found on a website! If I am ever in Portugal again, I would definitely go back.

My wife and I enjoyed 6 nights at the Casa as part of our honeymoon. We were looking for a relaxing break away from the bustle of city life; this was perfect.

Joao is an excellent host, keen to ensure all guests are enjoying their visit. During our stay he advised on places to eat, lent us a guide book on the local area and even posted my sunglasses to our next hotel when I forgot them.

The settings of the Casa are both relaxing and tasteful. The room where breakfast is served is encapsulated by a wonderful garden. Enjoying a lengthy larte breakfast in the sun here was a personal favourite of mine. Our apartment was also fantastic with a terrace on the first flloor ideal for chilling out.

  • Liked — Relaxing
  • Disliked — Quality of local restaurants (clearly not the fault of the owners!)

We just came back from our honeymoon in Portugal which included a 3 night stay at Casa do Terreiro do Poco. I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. The owner, Joao, and his wife were fantastic hosts. He promptly replied to my many emails and gave excellent directions on how to arrive by car from Lisbon.

The rooms were beautiful (ours included a lovely veranda) and the lavender filled courtyard was so peaceful. The sea-water pool and surrounding lounge chairs was a great place to relax in the afternoons. The floor-to-ceiling windowed breakfast room was the ideal place to start every morning.

Speaking of breakfast, it may have been our favorite meal of the day! Each table of guests received a small tray of meats and cheeses. Several types of bread and EXCELLENT homemade preserves. A new breakfast cake everyday. Egg and potato tortilla. Plus a changing dish each day made by Joao's wife ranging from herb-seasoned fried cheese with olive oil to homemade pate. It was more than we could finish, though we tried dearly.

Joao was so nice, and always ready to recommend restaurants or places to visit. We enjoyed every restaurant he sent us to.

We strongly recommend Casa do Terreiro do Poco and look forward to the day we can return.
