This hotel is in a terrible location, far from the centre. I've never seen so many mice in my life. They were running around the reception area, high up in the rafters AND to top it all, when I went to the kitchen to ask for something to eat, there were mice running around the areas where food is prepared. They also had cockroaches but I guess that's not so bad. The owner of this place is an American and I think it's an absolute disgrace that this place is allowed to remain open. It's a shame that the first impression many people get of a beautiful country is this rip off. I've stayed all over the world in every continent at every budget and this is the absolute worst hostel I have ever scene.

I was booked in for 2 nights but I only stayed 1. I got a taxi town and found a great little place for the same price with spotless rooms. NEVER STAY HERE.

I have noticed so many of these 1 review only negative and hateful reviews even last year back 8 years ago, I can not help wondering if any of them could prove they stayed at The Townhouse Hotel / Hostel? The new competition for the budget traveler market all paid more for their property then we did between 1985 to 1998 or even worse pay very high monthly rent to the owner therby both type of competing establishments have financial pressure on their shoulders whereas we paid cash and can maintain nearly the same rental rates for 20 years. Although we've been tempted to raise rates we are very much aware of the prevalent fixed income in many industries and within the international retirement community world wide and other countries in S.E. Asia which offer cheaper budget travel costs. So we will do our best to maintain our lowest rates in this prime location. Meanwhile we are renovating and determine to expand our 38 rooms to more than 60 rooms in the next 2 years.

I have stayed at the Townhouse 6 times in the last 2yrs. When I go back to the RP this July you can bet I'll be there again. I think the place is great, but I am also a consistent low frills traveler. This place is close to both airports and a straight shop up Roxas blvd to U.S. embassy or whatever you want to see.
The staff are very open & helpful. The Room rates are great and at late at night, when people gather in the common area, there is food & drink available. True, sometimes the food is a little hit/miss, but its always prepared fresh for you. As for the rooms....well, you get what you pay for.US$20/nite get you room, aircon, private bath & TV. $12 get you room, fan cooled, private bath. If you pay any less for a room you share a bathroom with everyone else. The rooms are not always the cleanest. Tiles are cracked/missing etc. and there can be bugs there also, REALLY BIG BUGS. But these bugs are very where in the Philippines.
This place also attracts travelers from all over the world. It is great to just hangout late at night drinking and sharing stories with new friends till the sun comes up. I don’t know about everyone else but that's why I enjoy traveling so much. It's not the swimming pools, pressed sheets & room service....it's about the people I get to meet. So, if you don’t mind "roughing it" a little the Townhouse is a smart choice. Save your money for the SanMigs & Redhorse beers...lol!!!!!
