Baclaran church is one of the famous and oldest church in Manila. Every Wednesday there are people who attended a novena mass and devotees called it as " Baclaran Day ". There are " tiangge " ( stores of different items like clothes, school supplies, shoes and many more, and prices are mostly in a lowest price ) that can be found out side the church. If you decided to go in here make sure to take care of you belongings.

i'm not a devotee, but i occasionally pass by this church on my way to work. i've always been curious though, and wanted to see inside, maybe celebrate mass.

got the chance when i was out one evening and had time before i had to go home. went inside the compound (which was hidden from the road by thick foliage from old trees, i had to ask where the entrance was!) and was actually surprised that it was still open! there were still people inside so it wasn't scary (late night in an old church!).

finally, i saw Our Lady of Perpetual Help. it's a large church, probably made larger in my mind by its emptiness. it was quiet that evening but i can imagine how crowded and noisy it can get on wednesdays and sundays. that evening, it was conducive to prayer and meditation, and i'm thankful that i stopped by.

It is the mother of all Marian Devotion. My wife has been a devotee since her youth but the first time I visited it was around eight years ago. We attend Mass every Sunday at the Shrine. It is not very far from our house. In fact, we could even reach it on foot if we take a certain detour through the Baclaran Market, that is, if you would not mind weaving through the crowded streets. I have to be honest, I find the façade of the church very plain, like a tombstone, the interior is also very plain, no flamboyance. The famous icon appears very small behind a huge backdrop. The sound system is not good and if you have foreign priest celebrating Mass in the local vernacular, the sound system makes it harder to stay alert. The Shrine on the right side before the main entrance is always crowded, with pilgrims lighting candles. You can scoop up as much candles as you want at the entrance and light prayers in exchange for any amount. The city government has not been able to resolve the problem of street vendors literally blocking the main road in front of the structure.

I like to say the Novena and hear mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Shrine in Baclaran, Pasay City. You have to be ready with a big crowd of devotees every Wednesday. This shrine in Baclaran is often visited by Catholics to receive the sacrament of reconciliation (through Confession).

pray, light candles in the several images, . whats so interesting here is that the candle has no exact prize. just drop your donation. for your personal needs, there's clean restroom. Hungry, fastfoods are nearby the west gate area.

What I dont like in the vicinity are the vendors who almost block the road to the church area
