If you didn't know where to look, it may be easy to pass up the Watergarden Hotel in Candi Dasa. But upon arrival, it is evident just how charming and magical this hotel is. Watergarden consists of a series of seemingly "floating" and private bungalows, beautifully decorated, each with a view of perfectly manicured water gardens directly out the front door.

The jungle sounds and smells of the Watergarden and its lush environment are like something out of a fairytale. Gorgeous flowers and plants are everywhere. The staff works hard to maintain the magic.

The staff are incredibly warm, helpful and kind and the restaurant boasts an impressive, menu with perfect presentation. There is also a Spa with a bevy of treatments you will enjoy as well as a pool which you will definitely want to spend time relaxing around.

One note to those with sweet blood like mine: bring mosquito repellant. There are nets on the beds, but it IS a watergarden and water attracts mosquitoes.

Room Tip: All rooms are winners here. But there are two larger suites which share a more private pool if desir...

When you arrive in Candi Dasa you have no idea of the delightful oasis that is behind the reception area. There are 12 thatched bungalows set in tropical gardens, each with its own koi pond. There is a beautiful pool, spa centre for a range of massages and delightful restaurant where you can sample 4 different breakfasts. The staff are very friendly and helped us with all sorts of adventures including bringing in coconuts from their gardens and giving us the correct clothes to attend a temple festival.

Room Tip: Rooms near the back of the property are more private

This is my 4th stay at this "secret" place. It is a "paradise" we have to come bak to every other year. We nevner get tired of sitting om the "deck" in the pond and listen to the sounds of the jungle. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortalble with the facilities we need: lovley bed, beautiful coulors, fridge (mini-bar), air-con, hotwater kettle, safe, fresh cold drinking water every day etc. Every evning we got "good night flower" laid on the bed.
Breakfast (perfect) served by the pool was something we also enjoyed. "The Watergarden Cafe" is the best restaurant in "town" (in my opinion).
Candi Dasa is a perfect place if you want to relax and be able to visit some of Bali's most beautiful and intersesting places.

My wife planned and booked everything for our holiday in Bali (brilliantly, I should add) and so I had no idea what level of accommodation to expect. We had already spent eight nights in a wonderful beachside room at Amed where the sound of the surf sent us to sleep each night and I thought it would be hard to beat. For our last four nights we were booked into the Watergarden. I was a little concerned when we turned up at reception that the road noise would be a problem, as the desk is quite close to a busy thoroughfare. However, after checking in, easily and efficiently, we were led through the glorious tropical gardens that give the place half it’s name, to a wonderful detached room with en-suite, air-con, fan, tea and coffee making facilities, safe and everything else we could need. In front was a large veranda, built over a leafy koi-filled pond and with two comfortable chairs, a table with reading lamp and a small table with chairs for meals on the veranda, if so desired. Our porter walked us through the various controls and at this point we discovered that the air-con was dead. No problem, and within minutes we had been easily moved to the next room along, similar in every way and from then on, our stay at the Watergarden got better and better.

Having worried about the road noise, in fact, the only sound to be heard was the frog chorus that started as darkness fell. (Curiously, it was completely absent on the third and fourth night). Oh and an amazing gecko that produced a descending Tok-Kay! call at regular intervals. All these and the chirp of cicadas, simply added to the exotic feel of the gardens and to just sit on the veranda in the cool of the evening, reading or taking a cold drink was lovely in itself. Room service was available, as was a mini-bar and the prices quoted were, unusually, the same as the bar prices. A flask of clean drinking water was refreshed daily and the room was kept spotless and fresh throughout our stay. One of the nicest touches was on returning to our room of an evening we nightly found the curtains pulled closed, the bedside and veranda lights on and, best of all, a fresh twist of flowers from the garden laid on the bed with a leaf on which the words “Good Night” hand written. Some reviewers have stated that they found the rooms “tired” or “dated”. I thought our room was bright, clean, spacious and well laid out. The only thing I would change would be the taps on the bathroom sink, but that’s just being picky.

The pool and terrace was the ideal place to relax and meals could be taken beneath the palm thatch of one of the traditional gazebos alongside, to the sound of falling water. The pool itself was clean, safe and well maintained, and a welcome relief from the heat of the day. Day beds with sunshades were always available, as were clean towels for use by the pool.

The staff were cheery, helpful and beautifully turned out. Never obsequious or overbearing, they catered to our every need with a smile and always greeted us with genuine pleasure. Their English was near flawless. The choice of inclusive breakfasts was very good as was the restaurant food that was very reasonably priced.

All in all, I would have no hesitation in recommending the Watergarden and would definitely stay there again.

We appreciate your feedback about your recent stay and I'm glad to hear that our staff were helpful to you but i do an apologize that the taps on the bathroom sink did not meet your expectation.

While planning our trip to Bali, our agent suggested that in order to get a better flavor of the island we should spend time in two different areas, one in or around Ubud and then someplace a bit more tranquil. For a quiet spot, she recommended two possibilities, one of which was the Watergarden Hotel in Candidasa. We chose this one and are very happy that we did. Candidasa is a small village along the eastern coast. It has a beach of its own, and it is a short ride (you can get a taxi to take you there) to White Sand Beach. But what made the visit to Candidasa particularly special was the Watergarden Hotel. It's a small place with individual "bungalows" situated among incredible vegetation. The rooms are simple but tastefully decorated and very comfortable and quiet, the service is excellent and the restaurant is very good (and very reasonable). It is also close to many other very good restaurants. As we were three adults traveling together, we chose the suite. It has two separate bungalows, a covered outdoor eating area and its own swimming pool. We had total privacy and were unable to see any of the other bungalows from ours. It was wonderful to come back form the beach or a walk and then to slip into our own pool. If we ever go back to Bali, we would always include a stay at the Watergarden. It's a very special place.
