“well balanced bali accomodation”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

This was my 16th visit to Bali and have stayed in all levels of accomodation. I booked this through RCI, and we loved Candidasa (first stay here) - quiet relative to Kuta/Legian, a bit like Sanur was 20 years ago. We really enjoyed BSBC - a bit quaint, had a basic hotel room which had a nice view over the sea, big balcony, and room itself reasonable size, good bed, ample bathroom but water pressure pathetic and shower over bath ok otherwise. The arrangement of the pool, terrace and beach chairs is great looking out to sea, with just "approved" touts offering sunglasses etc, and a resident boatman who took us on a combined fishing trip and to Whitesand beach (Pantai Putih) which we loved - in fact so much we hired a motorbike and drove there for lunch a second time - food in beachfront restaurants just like Jimbaran.
The hotel restaurant and bar are ok though we did mainly eat in town. The taff were lovely and helpful. The massage ladies were brilliant value and knew what they were doing - we made it a daily must have.
We would stay there again - overall good combination of value and facilities - as a regular visitor at this price point you ned to be realistic about bali standards and this is fine

Bali Shangrila Beach Club is a cheap place to stay and is in a quiet village. We had problems with our hot water and our fridge not being cold enough but the staff were very friendly and accommodating. It kind of has a 'caravan park' feel to the club, we met some lovely people who we will definitely catch up with in the future. The pool was small but because it is situated right behind the restaurant many people laze around and meet others. Don't expect extravagant furnishings in the rooms, what you pay for, you get. The rooms aren't bad considering you only really sleep in them. The restaurant Rathbones is okay but we enjoyed walking a short way to enjoy the local restaurants. We enjoyed dining at Vincents,Rendezous and Candidasa Cafe. Candidasa Cafe was extremely good with young children. A trip to Great Sandy Beach is a must whilst staying here. It is a 15mins boat ride. I would probably return to Bali Shangrila Beach Club because of the price and the peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of Kuta, Legian or Seminyak.

Room Tip: A room closer to the beach seemed to have a patio and clothes rack for drying.

I booked this hotel through 'Our Deals' in Australia for 11 couples. It was our first trip to Bali. The location of the hotel is good and the staff are friendly and helpful. But thats where it ends. The accomodation is lacking in cleanliness, with mould in the bathrooms and a terrible smell coming from the traps, lizards roaming the walls, water all over the bathroom floor after having a shower as the shower curtains too short. The roosters wake you up in the early hours of the morning. The hotel plays some monotonous music starting at 7am right outside your door and in the afternoon when one wants to rest. The son of the owner was rude, obnoxious and a racist. Would not recomment this hotel.

I booked this resort via RCI, my exchange company. Overall, the staff were awesome. Very helpful. Always smiling. Great people.

I had a hotel room. The resort facilities require upgrading, especially the bathrooms. The shower curtains are not long enough. The bathroom floor gets soaked everytime you take a shower. The water stream is average, however I would not recommend you washing your hair every day. It would take a long time with the water pressure. Shower heads need to be replaced and the wall for the entrance of the shower built up along with longer shower curtains.

Wi-fi: It was free, however you could hardly get on. When you were on it was very, very, very slow. They probably need to increase their brandwidth or change the frequency. Another guest told us that they were sharing frequency with a nearby hotel, hence the slow down.

Food: there was a variety of western and asian cuisine. Lots of places to choose from on the Candi Dasa main road.

The pool: you can swim laps, however it is not olympic size. There are no workout facilities.

The room: it was a great size considering it is a small resort. The towels in the entire resort need replacing - room and beach. They were faded and looked like they were about 20 years old. There was a hot water pot, a tv and dvd player along with the cups for tea/coffee. No microwave.

The onsite massage ladies were awesome. Spa services are available at the sister resort.

The atmosphere: the restaurant opened at 7am. The roosters woke you up at 0430.

Some FYI: there is a US$9.00 fee, per day, that you are required to pay. I was not informed of this via RCI nor the hotel staff when I checked in. There is an automatic 10% gratuity on food purchases in the restaurant, Rathbones or room service, along with an 11% government tax. The menu states 10% and 10%. I asked about the 1% difference and could not get a definitive answer why the menu's were not changed.

There is a departure tax from DPS of 150000 IDR. I did not find this information on any of the websites that I visited, to include the US Embassy website. I only found info on entering the country which cost US$25.00.

Overall, a great trip. I would return to Bali now that I know the rules of engagement. Our driver was awesome - Mr Saab.

I must have sinned and the Almighty wanted to punish me......so he let me be lured to Bali Shangrila Beach Club at Candidasa. There were lizards in the room (while chasing the lizards,we came across so much garbage from under the TV stand!), foul smell emanating from the traps in the shower area, from the kitchen sink and debris floating in the pool! Need I say more? The staff was good but seemed helpless. I loved the sleepy old town Candidasa.

I bought a voucher for a family holiday to Bali Shangrila Beach Club at Candidasa (pronounced Charn di darsa). We were a bit unsure of what to expect, being so cheap and all but we were pleasantly surprised - it's not the Hilton but remember it's only 3.5 to 4 stars but is clean, tidy and a great location by the water. If you have a problem with anything not working or not up to scratch in your room you only need to mention it to the front desk and they will do their best to fix it for you. We were given room 4 right across from the restaurant which was really convenient and no problem with noise or anything. Our Air Con was leaking on our arrival but that was fixed, our electric jug was not working properly so was replaced and our daughter had a roll away bed which they replaced with a mattress after the first night because the rollaway bed was too uncomfortable for her.
The Staff are fantastic, super friendly and because it's not a huge resort, we got to know a few people within a day of being there - which made our stay even more better, we even went out on a day trip with a couple we met there.
The breakfast choice wasn't too bad - we had a choice of a continental or Indonesian breakfast, each had a few choices so we tried pretty much everything. In the Indonesian, do try the chicken porridge, it's very much like a chicken soup with rice and very yummy, as is the Nasi Goreng, very nice. We ate there for lunch and dinner a few times and found it very nice but a little expensive compared to the restaurants down the street. We then ventured down to the village to eat at Vincents Restaurant which is very close and is very nice - my husband loved the crab dumplings as an entree followed by the prawns, I loved their spring rolls called Lumpia - yummmm! One other night he tried the Mahi Mahi fish and was very happy. Their chicken and corn soup is also very nice. Try Vincents Restaurant, We found it very nice, we didn't have lunch there so I can't speak for the cafe side of it.
We all went out as a group of 7 one night and tried the Lotus Beach Restaurant (I think it was called) and most of us were quite disappointed with our meals, 2 of the girls had Carbonara and it hardly had any sauce on the pasta. Don't eat at Friends Restaurant - some of us got a little sick from the food there.
While at the Bali Shangrila, talk to Wayan the boat operator, he'll probably introduce himself if you walk down to admire the view by the water. It's far cheaper to hire Wayan for snorkeling etc than to arrange it through the reception desk- we went snorkeling to Blue Lagoon for 150,000 rupiah each which would have been about 400,000 each through the resort. It was very clean and clear snorkeling at Blue Lagoon - we really enjoyed ourselves though I got fairly sunburnt - use sunscreen.

Room Tip: There are studio type rooms which seem adequate for a couple but we had a deluxe room which had a lo...

My partner organised a week here in Jan 2012 as part of a cheap "timeshare" promotion that we stumbled on in Australia (somehow?)....i was very skeptical at first, but on arrival was pleasantly surprised. Candidasa itself was a great relief after the chaos of Kuta/Legian, and the resort itself was completely acceptable...we had 2 rooms ...one double for us and a twin for our 2 teenagers...all for the "promotion" price of about $120 Australian all up...for a week !! How could you complain about that ?
The rooms were ok, cleaned every morning while we had breakfast, and with a/con were great to escape the heat. As mentioned in previous reviews, the layout of the resort does not lend itself to privacy, but the friendliness of the staff at this place was it greatest asset...I actually enjoyed bumping into the female staff, as they were just so nice !! Especially Poca Hontas (?) What a fantastic lady !
The pool was a bit small but ok, the breakfasts were a little overpriced, but excellent, the regular nightly food/entertainment deals were expensive but worth doing once, and the location right on the beach was a winner...because the water is actually clean enough to swim in !!
Overall, i would recommend this place, especially if you are on a "Promotion Deal" (how can you go wrong for $120/week?) I am not sure what the regular "walk in" price is ?

And the catch for the promotion deal ? Well, you have to spend an hour or so with Alex, the resident Russian timshare resort salesman...but...there was no real hardsell, and it was all fairly friendly and laid back....I think he was more interested in chatting up my wife..
Did we sign up ?

Not this time.

Room Tip: Rooms near the beach have a little more privacy...
