“This was absolute heaven.”
Reviewed April 12, 2011

We were welcomed and pampered from the moment we arrived and our holiday just kept on getting better. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to the most amazing room (with very little extra to pay!) it was beautiful. A view to the mountains to the left and to the right the ocean. On the balcony a huge day bed that allowed us to take in the views. We felt as though we had arrived in heaven.
We were lucky enough to meet Kai and Jas who made our stay so much better- we can't wait to meet with them again later this year.
This holiday was everything you could wish a holiday to be and the Rama Candidasa was amazing.

Beautiful, calm and relaxing, Rama Candidasa is a private resort in a quite town. The rooms are spacious and romantic. Only planning to stay 3 nights, we extended our time there after meeting two members of the staff, Kai and Jas who made our stay that much more pleasant. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful and serene, stay at Rama. Wonderful trip!

it was with reservation that i proceeded with our booking but was pleasantly surprised.we had garden view rooms and the only downer was the paint peeling off the bath.we were told by management that renovations were about to start so to us no biggy.staff were attentative and we had all our requests met without fuss.the pool area was well maintained and the view over the ocean.as we are not beach goers no beach access was not a problem.we were given free transport to any restaurant that we nominated and even motorbike hire was right at our door.despite discussion about time share with management we were not under any pressure to sign up. walking for us to shopping was not a problem.added to the experience.

Hello to all weary travellers. Here is another warning regarding this so called resort.
The Rama Candidasa Resort and Spa in the town of Candidasa.
It all started with the journey to the resort. Ok we knew it was around a two hour journey from the airport, But even the hotels driveway is a bit like a camel track.
We arrived at the resort at approximately 7pm, and were ushered into the resort’s lobby area. Which was quite nice. We were booked in by staff that had a bit of a grasp on the English language.
We were then shown to our “Deluxe Garden view Bungalow”. Well upon venturing into the “bungalow”.
1) It was so small you would be lucky to swing a cat around the room without hitting a wall.
2) The bathroom was approximately 20 years old and toilet, shower/bath were still the “lovely” pastel blue. Shower was crap. Would have got more pressure out of having a sponge bath.
3) The “magnificent” air-conditioner was lucky to even produce a wisp of hot air, but was able to spit water at you.
4) The television. Ha Ha Ha, standard definition, old, and if you could even see a picture you were doing well.
Well as weary travellers. We went to the resorts ONLY restaurant. If you could call it that. The food provided was very ordinary and very limited for a resort that apparently has a four star rating. No theme nights and barbecue evenings as provided by most holiday resorts/hotels in the WORLD.
One unbiased plus I must give to the resort is that the gardens were impeccable. But I must stress that holiday makers have been coming to BALI for numerous years, due to the “cheapness” of the country.
Well we had finished our dining at the “restaurant”, had a quick look at the surroundings at night, (took all of 5 minutes).
Stumbled our way back to our “Deluxe Bungalow”(lighting was crap) and tried to survive the night.
We awoke the next morning at approximately 8am and ventured down to the lobby to complain about our accommodation. I then sat down with a staff member in the lobby and explained our grievance with the state and issues with the room.
I asked the member of staff for the room which we had been booked and paid for and his reply that the room we were in was the “Deluxe Garden view Bungalow”. I then explained that we were very unhappy with the state of the room and could they put us in another bungalow due to it’s problems.
I was then taken and shown another room which was a “JUNIOR SUITE” and that was available for a further $40.00 AUD per night. Seeing our glorious stay was for 11 days that would have equated to over a further $440.00. This was totally unacceptable I told the staff member and told him to phone management to solve the problem. After going through a verbal bartering session, I managed to get the price down to $20.00 AUD per night, which was still so unprofessional of the resort. It was our first time in BALI and the first time to that resort. In a more civilized country we would have been offered a room upgrade for free as a good will gesture, but not here.
We finally were moved to the “JUNIOR SUITE” which was great in comparison to the other room. It had a huge bedroom with semi lounge sitting area, small compact kitchenette for making tea or coffee, a wonderful bathroom, big flat screen tv with dvd player and an air-conditioner that actually worked.
After moving to our new room we went down to the “restaurant” for breakfast. Well I should say “breakfast” as breakfast was a very ambiguous term. I would have used the term morning nourishment.
1) Most of the food was tepid.
2) Lack of variety and overpriced.
3) Lack of conversant language skills by the majority of staff. So complaints were “NOT UNDERSTOOD”.
4) Their idea of fruit for breakfast. Melon(not sure what type), pawpaw(I think) Watermelon(if you were lucky), pineapple(on special occasions, I suppose).
5) Bacon. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. If you want it for lunch.
6) Most of the other “food” supplied for “breakfast” appeared to be leftovers. Extremely unprofessional.
We then had a look at the menu’s for lunch and dinner. (very repetitive) So we tried room service one night, battered fish with salad (batter soggy, half cooked and cold, salad comprised of a couple of lettuce leaves and two cherry tomatoes halved and a disgusting lemon dressing). Also lucky if you get small change back. We know tipping is not a requirement as all meals apart from breakfast come with a service and tax charge.
The next course of action for us after morning nourishment was to go and see the staff at the lobby concerning our displeasure with our room.
Now just to make everything clear we had booked our holiday through our travel agency whom I must say are absolutely brilliant in every way. This will be made clear later on.
We had also gone onto the hotels website www.ramacandidasahotel.com. To actually see what the rooms looked like. Looks perfect on the website, but a bit different in person. Also advertised STILL on website and pamphlets a tennis court nearby for use. 1) nobody knew anything about where, what, costs or anything.

We had a look around the resort (no beach), nice pool, relaxing but very pricy spa services. The view around the bay was nice.
We were enjoying our new room when we received a letter ceremoniously shoved under our door. This letter revealed we were the lucky winners of a competition which involved timeshare for rooms at the resort. We didn’t reply to the letter. But low and behold a day later we received a phone call asking us if we had received the letter and what we were going to do, which we replied we were not interested. Further more to that conversation we were accosted at the pool by a rather swarthy gentleman whom entered into our conversation by introducing himself and explaining the letter further. We told him to go and bother someone else. Another way of spoiling our holiday.
The next couple of days were involved with utilizing the available “activities” at the resort, spa(expensive), pool(very clean), yoga class (very good).
I enquired about the shuttle or taxi’s available to go to Candidasa shops and was told about 4 different prices ranging from 5,000rp to 20,000rp. Then finally was told about the free shuttle to town from the resort, which left at 10am.
We now know that Candidasa is miles away from anywhere. There are numerous tours you can go on but variety is very limited.
After perusing the local tours and eateries we decided the safest course of action was to continue eating at the resort(big mistake). The food actually got worse and on the fourth day I got a bad case of acute gastroenteritis, which a local doctor was called for to treat me. After about 20 minutes and with 2 courses of antibiotics to take along with diarrhoea and vomiting medication, the doctor left. She was very efficient and thorough.
A couple of days later my wife also developed diarrhoea and vomiting, so at leach
With our lack of enthusiasm for the resort and our holiday we tried to make the most of it. Probably another issue that made it worse was that on the third last day we were there we saw a few stray cats around the resort that obviously were starving and crying out mournfully but none of the resort staff cared at all.
They obviously have a religion they can change when they want as they profess that they cannot kill anything but they let cats starve. How hypocritical.
Well with both of us being so sick we phoned our travel agency to see how quickly they could book us on a flight home. I then went to the lobby to inform them that we were booking out early and to expect an emailed travel booking from our travel agency.
The emailed booking came through and the staff member asked why we were leaving early, but did not seemed interested when explaining the reasons. So I did not expect any kind of compensation at all. We did not even mind paying the doctors bill which came to 650,000 rp as she was so professional in her work. It is a great pity that the resort has no professionalism at all.
We were supposed to leave on the Saturday 12th March 2011 but left on 9th March 2011.
We were just glad to leave.
Never in our wildest dreams had we ever expected such a disappointment going on a holiday. The Balinese have got a lot to learn from the people of THAILAND. That is the destination where we went on our first holiday and we will be going back to Thailand but never again to Bali.
We now know that Thailand is a much larger and more civilized country with reasonable economic stability based on its industry and Bali is very small and most of its income must come from its tourism industry and that is the reason that Bali should be so much better with regards to quality and service when on holiday.
If you want to waste your money and if you go onto the website you will find that there are quite a few people who will never go back the RAMA CANDIDASA HOTEL and SPA. This is not defaming the hotel, we are just explaining our issues and upon reading other travellers experiences with this hotel.
For the many travellers whom enjoy Bali, good luck to you all and happy travels.

We stayed for 6 nights in Feb 2011. Location at the end of a dodgy dirty road. Candidasa is far off from cazy Kuta, so if you like it more quite, this is a good place.
Pros:
- Very friendly staff, try their best (not always successfully, though).
- Nice pool and garden.
- Quiet and peaceful.
- PADI diving next door.
Cons:
- No beach! The ocean ends at a wall a few meters below.
- Rooms in main building are small. We had an "Oceanview" Bungalow (the view was to the pool, though).
- The bungalow's furniture was quite old and worn out. Bed curtains dusty and moldy, cockroach in the closet.
- Bathroom with worn out old bathtub. Shower with river stones on the ground. Nice idea but very unhygenic: it permanently stank.
- Spa: pretty design. Massage average at best, body scrub a laugh (they did not scrub at all).
BE CAUTIOUS: we booked originally by internet with low rate. Because we had in between conversation with the reservation, they demanded us to pay the much higher rate. This was very annoying.
We had prewedding pictures arranged: very good, this was really great (but pricy: nearly 1,000 USD).

Fabulous room - I booked a Deluxe Bungalow and it was quiet and private. The bed, however was 2 twins pushed together, made up as a queen. The tub had been repainted and everyday the paint would come off in large pieces and block drain. My major complaint was about the food. I received raw fish for dinner. When I told the server, they offered to recook the same fish. Was too disgusted to continuing eating, but they didn't reduce the bill at all. When I ordered room service 2nd night, I couldn't get through to room service for 45 minutes. Called the front desk to see if there was something wrong with the phone? They said they'd have the room service call me. They didn't within a 1/2 hour. Called back to front desk. Told them to take the order and take it down to the restaurant. They agreed. Got my burger by room service and it was completely raw. Threw the entire thing out. Likewise with an omelette ordered at breakfast. Also booked a snorkelling trip with the activity coordinator. This trip I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The snorkelling itself was about a half hour and then we were taken to a beach, where we were inandated with vendors trying to sell their wares. The ride back was frustrating because the waves were so large, that anywhere you sat, water crashed over you and went into your eyes. Because there was no dock to get off the boat, 2 of the crew tried to hold the boat steady and you had to "jump" off while the waves pummelled the boat. I twisted my knee badly getting off the boat and it ruined the last few days I had on Bali and my 20 hrs on a plane excruciating. What's sad...is that this was my top 3rd hotel out of 7. Though the Balinese people are extremely kind and wonderful, the service is less than great. You really have to separate service from the great location, temperature and how cheap everything is. Once you remember you paid $3 for the Fish & Chips, it doesn't matter as much. The $10 massage will fix it for you...

My husband and I stayed at this Resort for 17 days in Jan. The Resort itself is nice----the pool is awsome and the Ocean Front Villa, that we stayed in, even though it was in need of some updating, was in a perfect location(about 10 steps to the pool). Do not eat at the Resort Rest. It was VERY over priced and not very good. Breakfast was VERY average----most of it was leftovers from the night before!!!!!!!
The location of the Resort was too far from town. The Resort had a free shuttle, but this service was only offered from 10am(leaving) until a 12 pm pick-up.
The one major downfalls, was the constant badgering, by staff, to sign up for the "Club". We got very tired of this and felt uncomfortable at times when "no" was not the answer that he wanted!!!!!!
But, the town of Candiasa was really lovely------we hope to go back next year and take our daughters------just not staying at this Hotel.
