“So bad we couldnt stay - Disgusting”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

ok, so we read all the review on line, booked, arrived to be horrified, we are not hard to please, but this was bad, the ocean view room - we payed extra for, i had to move a brown dirty curtain to look out the disgusting window to see the view. we had paid extra for, the sheets were formally white but now grey with holes with a dead frangipani on top, nice touch, the fridge was vintage - rusty and green, no it wasnt working, the shower - lets not even talk about that, there was an interconecting room, that we couldnt lock off - yuk, oh did i mention the pool was empty and broken, the resturant had slipped into the ocean, sorry - cant eat there... when we told the manager we were not staying as the rooms were tooo dirty and we saw nothing like was shown on booking.com, he got on the phone and said i had to send him an email if i wanted to cancel -excuse me i am standing in front of you...he just looked blankly at us- long story short - we walked down the street into plenty of clean tidy rooms for the same price and less - we ended up staying two nights down the road, very disspointed we still had to pay full price for the filthy unlockable room at the Rishi...please dont waste your time.

Room Tip: No good rooms, my tip walk down the street

its on the beachfront=tick.
but it feels grubby, foam mattress with clean but old sheets&towels. bathroom is very basic. there is no bottled water or tea/coffee making facilities. i has a superior room and expected it to be nicer not chipped paint, damp etc. just very old and uncared for.
breakfast is basic-plain omlette or an egg of another description with toast and orange squash and small bits of fruit.
the pool has algae up the walls which is a shame as its oceanfront and looks nice from a distance. the artificial beach...there are big waves so can't swim here.
i wouldn't stay here again, only recommend for travellers or a couple of nights not in a backpackers. padang bai has more going on&diving. i prefer sanur...

Beautifully constructed building with elaborate manicured garden and water features. Fall to sleep with the sound of the waves. Some of the bathroom facilities are due a refurb but for bargain basement prices for this accommodation you will find the establishment itself and its location in a delightful town in East Bali. Everything that Kuta isn't.

Very tired old rooms and dangerously slippery external stairs when it rains, but this hotel is in an excellent location as far as being next to the ocean on one side and next to lots of restaurants on the other side. Nearly all of the rooms (except maybe the ground floor) seem to have great views of the ocean and the open-air restaurant area out the back is a fantastic vista for breakfast (nobody seemed to game to eat there for lunch or dinner, but it is a beautiful spot for a drink any time of day). It also has two large pools which also look-out at the adjacent ocean, although one of the pools was pretty filthy when we were there (grime around 30% of the walls which could have been easily cleaned but wasn't) - but we still swam in it anyway because the water seemed clean. One of these pools includes an area where toddlers can stand up (but need to be supervised). We only paid $US 75 per night for two rooms, with breakfast for 4 people, so despite the old rooms and one unclean pool walls, if you're not fussy about those things then this was brilliant value for such a great location.

Tip: there is great food available from a restaurant down a laneway next door (on the right).

If some peeling paint, cracked tiles and chipped furniture is going to spoil your holiday then this is not the hotel for you. On the other hand, if you want arguably the best location in Candidasa, a hotel full of charm and character, with comfortable rooms at a bargain price then don't overlook the Rishi.
We had two rooms in a single bungalow with a connecting door between them which was perfect for us. Including a living area with table and chairs the rooms were huge, There is also outside seating on a porch.
As the hotel is set back from the road, it was very quiet, apart from the sound of the waves - which I'm not going to complain about.
The room was kept clean enough day-to-day (provided you leave your key at reception as the staff don't have spares) but could do with a deep clean of the windows and other hard to reach surfaces if I was to be fussy. The bathroom was showing its age but was "hygienically" clean if not spotless (eg old cigarette burns). The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were clean, if not brand new, and changed on request.
There are two swimming pools and the sea views are simply stunning, especially at sunset
The staff were very friendly and helpful but over-stretched as part of the hotel is closed for refurbishment (no sign of any recent activity) and I think they may have cut back on staff numbers so it wasn't always that quick to be served - but so what, just look at the view a bit longer!
Breakfast was included in our room rate, with a choice of rice or noodles or various types of egg and toast, plus fresh fruit, juice and help-yourself coffee. It was plenty to set us up for the day.
In short, we loved the Rishi and the faded charm and echos of past glory just added to the experience with the feeling that we felt we were sharing something a bit special, but this may not be to everyone's taste. Come prepared and you'll love it too, but if it's not for you then go elsewhere.

I've been there on the last week of August, travelling alone for a week of divings ( i suggest You Bali Bubbles, really professional team).

The hotel is really old, half of it is closed since they are looking for investors.

The beautiful pictures You see will probably refere to 10 years ago.

Position is good, great seaview with a small shore just beneath the hotel. ( Candidasa is not a place where to look for long, white sand beaches.. I'll suggest You this place just for divings and relax)

Food ( breakfast), good if You are on diet, they will bring You one egg, two slice of toast with some jam and butter. The other choice is some local nasi goreng, not bad if You like it.

Staff nice, they will try to help You.

Room: really old. Cleaning was appopriate, but holes on sheets, towels, roof and walls coverd by mildew could give You the 'wrong impression'...

Just remember, this is a 3rd world country, so don't pretend too much. If You are looking for higher standards, try other hotels.

Cheers

We booked this hotel for 2 nights after reading favourable reviews online, and viewing the attractive photos.
We were bitterly disappointed: the 'suite' was old, musty smelling, with leaking taps & toilet in the stained and damaged bathroom. 2 bathtowels were provided: old, grey and threadbare. The 'suite' was advertised with bathroom toiletries, tv and minibar, none of which was present. No bottled water provided.
Tiled corridors and steps are slippery with leaking / dripping water.
We checked out after one sleepless night, with no refund for the 2nd night - we had booked online, paid $80 per night, 'reduced' from $135 per night!
To say something positive: the 2 pools are beautiful, but only 2 loungers available; the views are lovely.
