After visiting Tirtagangga (a scenic, water-themed garden which was about 20 minutes away by car), we stopped for lunch @ CandiDasa. We chose Lotus Seaview Restaurant based on our DK Travel Guide's recommendation. It is an open-concept restaurant @ CandiDasa Beach with a lovely, unobstructed view of Bali Sea. There were only a handful of diners @ 1pm that day & we were seated @ a table along the sea-facing side of the restaurant.
Service was rather slow & inattentive with wait staff often observed to be idly standing or chatting in a corner. It took some time for our orders to be taken & even longer for the food to be served. We didn't really mind the waiting nor the lack-lustre service as we were mesmerized by the splendid view of sunlight dancing off a glittering sea against an azure sky...
My partner had a ravioli dish which elicited no comments so I assumed it was just passable... I ordered the Bebek Goreng (Balinese deep-fried duck served with yellow rice); the duck meat was very dry & tough but nonetheless quite tasty. I found the portion to be fairly big as I could barely finish the duck & didn't even touch the rice provided.
We also ordered a dessert to share but the wait staff just brought 1 set of cutlery to the table. We had to request several times before they got us dessert plates & another set of cutlery. When we asked for a knife to cut the crepes, we were expecting a normal dessert or dinner knife but they sent us a long, serrated bread knife instead which was really awkward to use... We can only conclude that the staff here seriously lack training & initiative in their service.
The 'Dadar Gulung Pisang' were rolled banana crepes stuffed with grated coconut & palm sugar; it was delicious & we really enjoyed it despite finding a tiny black insect (looked like a dead fly) stuck to the inside of a crepe... We didn't even think of sending it back to the kitchen as by then, we had already eaten nearly 3/4 of the serving.
Total Cost for 2 pax was Rp260,000 (about CHF26) which we considered acceptable but slightly too expensive for Indonesia.
