“Good place to stay”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

I enjoyed our stay at Bali Palms the staff were great and couldn't help us enough. We had some problems in our unit but as soon as we notified the reception it was fixed ASAP. Is in a great location very close to resturants. Will stay there again.

We booked a hotel suite at Bali Palms Resort through expedia at a 50% off rate.
The resort levies a 21% surcharge on everything which includes Govt taxes and staff charges.
Stayed with the family at one of the villas with view on the sea. The rooms were clean, neat with a flatscreen TV, DVD/Music system and kitchen facilities. Problem with my shower cubicle hydro massante, thus impossible to use. Construction taking place but did not bother us. Staff are very friendly and helpful except reception desk.
This resort does not own a beach but fortunately the swimming pool is big and pleasant.
This hotel lacks animation in the day for the children and even in the evening. The hotel is enough located far from the city center (shuttles every hour)
The breakfast is correct but it is not a buffet, what a pity. Reserve especially with the inclusive breakfast.
To eat to the restaurant will be very expensive to you. Prefer restaurants near the hotel.
A stay of 3 days was widely enough for us. Classic hotel, nothing to do and to make in candi dasa.

Stayed with the family in late June at one of the villas. With breakfast included as part of the package, this was incredible value. The rooms were clean and neat. Besides some unique quirks (like the stairway through the middle of the second bedroom- for the villa upstairs that you'd bump your head into from time to time), everything was good quality. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The resort levies a 21% surcharge on everything which includes Govt taxes and staff charges (I checked with them and they did receive their share). Low water pressure as is the case everywhere in SE Asia. Room had a flatscreen TV, DVD/Music system and kitchen facilities. I had expected a lot worse reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, but was pleasantly surprised. There's a shuttle which takes you to Watergardens, Mr Grumpy (restaurants) and their other sister resort- Bali Shangrila. We preferred to walk there - as it's not too far. Internet went down on the last day - but it wasn't too much of a problem. Overall, excellent value for money and would recommend this to families with kids. And the views of the Candidasa coastline are fantastic.

Room Tip: Try and book a villa - not an upstairs room.

We spent a week at Bali Palms on a promotional rate . Given that they were trying to sell us a membership I would have expected better accomodation than the basic room we received. However the room while small was clean and neat. The shower was a corner curved unit on a raised platform and with a spar type flexible shower head and hose.My wife who is short, struggled to reach the hose to adjust the direction of the spray. The shower leaked, resulting in a puddle of water on the floor each time it was used. The two towels we received were grey (originally white) & threadbare, and holes appeared after a few days use. There is no light over the sink so shaving was a problem. The air conditioning was fine however, and the bed was comfortable, although the sheets were noticeably stained. These were changed on request. The only door to the unit needs to be locked using the key as there is no other way of locking the door. But it is possible to double lock the door, so opening it in a hurry could be a real problem, and I saw no sign of any emergency exit information, smoke alarm or fire fighting equipment. This needs to be addressed. The pool did have broken tiles but they didn't affect us in any way. I would say that the stairs are a major problem, especially for older clientele. They are higher than normal but also did not appear to be a uniform height, some being steeper than others and this makes it difficult to climb or descend. My wife fell while going up the stairs on our first night. After a few days of use both of us were noticing pain in the hips & we noticed this was aggravated whenever we went up or down the stairs. We are both in our 50's and found ourselves holding on to the rail on both up and down trips due to the discomfort of using them. We mentioned this problem to senior staff as we had also noticed it with some of the other staircases (not all). We were told that this was so that bad spirits couldn't climb the stairs. While I appreciate that this is still a developing economy, and I respect their beliefs and do not wish to cause offence,( it is their country & we are only visitors after all). However this is one area that needs genuine improvement from a safety point of view.
The food in the restaurant was cheap and fairly basic, so nothing to write home about. We did notice that regularly we would be told that something on the menu wasn't "available in the fridge".
The staff were friendly, efficient and accomodating, especially Melani in the restaurant, and the bar staff. We had most of our meals in the restaurant during our stay so I would say we have a pretty good appreciation of the restaurant , it's food and service. I believe the restaurant is run seperately to the hotel however. The grounds and the rooms were kept clean and I would congratulate the staff on this aspect. I have seen other comments about the beach, and no, there isn't really a beach. At high tide the immediate area is quite pretty, but at low tide there is noticeable rubble, broken bits of pipe etc immediately in front of the resort. The views are great though and the staff and Management try hard to make your stay enjoyable. The pool itself is the biggest in the area I believe and is due to be repaired in November.
In general the Bali Palms needs money and TLC spent on it. However we had a real feeling of coming home after a day out exploring eastern Bali, and the staff were the main reason behind this. They were interested in us and they wanted to help make our stay enjoyable. So good luck to all of you for the future.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms definitely a must for older visitors or anyone with some form of mobility problem...

Dear Valued Guest,

First of all, on behalf of management and staff I would like to sincere thanks you for choosing Bali Palms Resort as your accommodation during your holidays in Bali. I noticed your comment at length on this tripadvisor.com. we realized that we are in the middle of process in upgrading our resort due to it is just taken over 1.5 year ago. Our lead in room category which is named Hotel Suite is planned to be modified into Apartment and soonest after commissioned we will put the lift as a facility access there. in fact we have been installing a lift at our apartment building. All linens are delivered in well conditions but if one of them on decent condition, it could be happened as we use outsourcing laundry service and during your stays we were very tight in occupancy, potentially our staff have less control on it. Swimming pool in on schedule to be re-tiled in this November and will meet completion on the end of November.
We are confidently to say that we will have much higher services standardthan now after all projects meet completion

again we thanks you for your shares and hope will come back and stay with us for next trips

Sincerely yours,
Komang Astawa

We booked a hotel suite at Bali Palms Resort through expedia at a 50% off rate of NZ$82 p.n. Even at this discounted rate the basic small, dark room with its unattractive bathroom and tiny balcony with a plastic table and two chairs was overpriced compared to the five other hotels that we have stayed at (in Ubud, Kuta and Lovina) since April this year. We now appreciate even more what these other hotels have to offer. The best feature is the large pool (dirty and broken tiles though) with the sea behind it. Not much of an authentic Balinese atmosphere, could have been any seaside hotel in a number of locations. Breakfast is US$9++ (IDR80,000++) - children pay the full price. (Breakfast outside IDR45,000). Small fridge absolutely full of bar supplies has a sign on the door asking guests not to remove these bar supplies to use the fridge for their "personal belongings" so guests don't have the use of a fridge. First time in 10 years of travelling with a child that a hotel has refused to supply an extra bottle (330 ml) of complimentary water in addition to the two standard bottles for the room. Nothing provided for kids to do apart from the swimming pool (e.g. pool table, games, chess). Construction taking place but did not bother us. Contacted the hotel before our arrival with some queries about the room / airport transfer and the response was prompt and friendly. Staff generally friendly and helpful as most Balinese are. Was listed as 3.5 stars but agree with other reviewers that it should be a lower rating.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool have attractive view but can be noisy in the evenings because of entertainmen...

Dear Valued Guest,

First of all, we thank you for choosing Bali Palms Resort as your accommodation during your holiday in East Bali. We noticed that you were unhappy with the size of our Hotel Suite. actually this room type we had from previous management which we just took over last year and we have plan touch up/ modify it into Apartment which is 2 existing rooms become 1 Apartment and with stunning view of blue ocean. we also noted that some tiles were off on our pool as we plan to retile this pool in this November 2012
Hope all above can clarify and we still wish that you will return on next trips

Sincerely yours,
Komang Astawa

We stayed in a number of hotels / resorts (including one 5+ star which offered intrusive attention) during our stay of Bali / Lombok. Bali Palms was a most pleasant surprise. The rooms are clean and comfortable, albeit fairly basic. The resort has a beautiful outlook. Of particular note are the staff - by far the most personable and friendly we met in our whole time in Bali. The town of Candidasa offers a literal smorgasbord of restaurants and eateries. We were very taken with Bali Palms and Candidasa, so much so that we will definitely be returning.

We didn't plan to stay here as we booked Shangri la hotel via a our deal.com.au thing originally. Shangrila didn't have room but it turns out the swimming pool at the Bali palms is more kid friendly and the food is better. Room is pretty basic but we paid $50 per night for two adults and 2 kids including breakfast. Some rooms are different in size so ask to see a couple of rooms.

There is no beach but you can easily walk up the road or get a car to white sands beach.

Kamong is a great local driver so look out for him outside the hotel.

Candidasa is an hour away from Kuta but we preferred staying in that area to experience the real Bali rather than all the tourist crap.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are best, some rooms larger than others
