“Clean room for a small price”
Reviewed December 15, 2011

We have stayed at Temple Cafe & Seaside Cottages in Nov 2011. We checked into a Standard Twin Room with Fan without breakfast for 140.000 Rupiah per night (the Standard Double would have been only 110.000 Rph.) and I thought it was very good value after checking out other places in this area.
Our room was very clean, the bathroom could be used barefoot and we got fresh towels everyday. The only problem was that there was no closet or storage, only two hooks, certainly not enough! Seaside Cottages has Wifi, a book exchange, cheap Laundry and a Spa next door.
A big plus is the Oceanfront seating area with view, each night we either had dinner or a drink there. Indo Food was delicious and reasonably priced. We thougt that Aussi and Indo Staff was very friendly and helpful, the Aussie Lady even speaks very good german!

I have read that some people think that Candidasa is overpriced. That is ridiculous. If you want to visit an overpriced place go to Seminyak.
It´s true that Candidasa is more expensive than other places in Indonesia. But it is still cheaper than most of the tourist places like Jimbaran, Sanur, Ubud, Sengiggi or even Kuta/Lombok. Our cheapest meal along a three week Indo-Trip was in Candidasa at one of the Seaside Warungs at
the western end of town. For 2x small bottles of water, 2x chicken satay, 2x rice, 1x Soto Ayam (Soup), 1x Gado Gado (mixed veggies) we paid 30.000.- Rupiah, which was about Euro 2,50 // USD 3,40 in November 2011. Coming from Germany where I have to pay Euro 3 for a Latte Macchiato and Euro 2,50 for a subway ticket - I consider IDR 30.000 for a two person meal bloody cheap!

These bungalows may not be cheap by Bali standards, but neither are they primitive. We had the best room in the house, a spaceous double roomed unit with great bed, clean modern bathroom and sink, kettle, and eating area, making the place a cosy enclave even when it rained. There was free wi fi and the owner Shirley, lent us shoes for going onto her very rocky beach. My husband and I found three wonderful restaurants in very close proximity, and at one, met our waiter who went on to welcome us into two of the most extraordinary days of our life (and we are 60!). We also met a taxi driver outside who rented us a brand new scooter for $5.00 a day. We enjoyed our 5 days at the Temple Cottages so much that we would like to return.though, an included breakfast would make the Cottages wonderful value. Unfortunately it is not.

Room Tip: The double front foom with the patio overlooking the sea, was at $45.00 per night, well worth the mo...

The budget room listed in Lonely Planet is more expensive on arrival than listed at 110k/night. This would be a great value if breakfast was included. Like everywhere else in Candidasa, everything is overpriced and unimpressive. I have yet to have a good meal here and I have paid more for each one that anywhere else in Bali. The staff at Temple seaside cottages are rather surly and unfriendly and they demand payment for your stay up front. The budget room is not well ventilated (read hot and sticky) and the fan that it is equipped with runs poorly and is dirty. It's an overall a grimy feel here. The 2 redeeming qualities are of the view of the ocean out back and the cozy sitting area out front with wi-fi. They have a great book selection, and you'll do a lot of reading in this town as there is no beach, just rocky terrain near the water. Again though, the view really is spectacular, the water is very clear, and the snorkeling at the dive shop next door to this hotel is a great deal. Candidasa has a lovely ocean view that is worth seeing or diving, but better to pass through on your way to somewhere else.

We stayed here on 2 different occasions this holiday, as we liked it so much ! The location was great & the view from our beachfront room was wonderful to wake up to every morning. Having breakfast or arvo drinks on the beachfront everyday was very relaxing, also the price was fantastic for the experience we had.
Breakfast was good value & spring rolls were a stand out arvo bintang snack. What stood out to us was the people @ the cottages. We really enjoyed Shirley & Ayu's company & their shared experiences of life in Bali. Also the advice, directions & booking us a larger motorbike in advance (not common in candidasa). Kadek was our driver a couple of times & we found him to be a great guy & more importantly was a really safe driver.
When we return we'll be staying again as great value, views & great personalities. The staff are a credit to the property.

Room Tip: beachfront is the go !!

We stayed In Temple cafe & Seaside Cottages after phoning to make a reservation from Ubud. When we arrived we were greeted in the freindly Balinese fashion. Although i had booked a standard room i decided to check other rooms for the sea view. The staff took me to check the room first (4b) which was really nice. After filling out the registration form I was suprised that i had to pay for my 5 nights immediately, this was the first time i had experienced that on my travels around the world and it did not put me at ease. I felt like i had been trapped and if i wanted to move elsewhere i couldnt do so.
The view from the room was nice, and as others have said the beach destroyed by the extracting the coral was not what i had expected. The room was clean but on close inspection the window frames were dusty and did not lock correctly. The bed comfortable but not luxury, the towels changed daily and left neatly rolled on the bed.
Its a small room with no wardrobe (just a small hang rail for clothes) so storage space was minimal. The bathroom was basic with over hanging wood rail for the shower / bath curtain. Part of the bathroom was made of coral from the seabed with suitable greenery to make it cosy. Shower hot water was great!!!
When your on holiday its always nice to have breakfast included (even if it means a slightly higher room rate) unfortunately Temple cafe does not offer this facility, which is a shame. From experience if the breakfast is good it encourages guests to try lunch or dinner which would bring more income to the cafe.
There billing service needs tighter control, as i was going to be charged for items allready paid for. On Checkout i paid for 2 beers when it should have been two coffees and one beer. We asked to watch a video in the lounge, unfortunately either the tv or the DVD player was so old you could hardly see the picture. I wondered why the TV was never on!!
One positive point was hiring scooters from Temple Cafe, which meant we could tour the surrounding area as far as Amed. Overall it was a pleasant stay with shops and restaurants nearby, not to mention Gary's beer and burgers at Ari Homestay, they were great.

Seaside Cottages—C andidasa 125,000 N/BF
Very well maintained, well run, common areas also well maintained (deck chairs and seating areas), landscape well manicured. Good Wi-fi. Fan rooms have only a free standing fan (no ceiling fan). The food could be better. We had previously frozen vegetables with our dinner. Also, the road noise can be very loud in the restaurant, but the rooms are very quiet. The beer is very cold and you can take it to the beach side
