My Husband and I spent one week at the Royal Bali beach club in April (during the volcano crisis). We had a wonderful time at the hotel. It looks just as pretty as it's picture and because we had researched it's location, it was actually better than we expected.
We hired a jeep at the airport, but that is because my husband likes driving in crazy countries - not to everyone's taste. We did try to get the hotel to pick us up, but as this was booked through Diamond Resorts (holiday club, points donated as a present to us), we could not contact them directly and no reply was ever received. However we enjoyed the jeep and it gave us the freedom to go out everyday and explore if we wanted to - and a weeks hire was the same cost as a return airport transfer.

The staff at the hotel were all lovely - if a little over staffed due to the lack of customers from the flight issues. This in turn though meant we got to experience a slightly empty hotel - all the more room in the pool for us!

The local town of Candidasa (the hotel is in a nearby village) is about a 8 minute drive away. If you did not have your own transport then the hotel can organise lifts for you.
There are heaps of trips that they provide all over the island. As we were on a purely relaxing holiday and had our own transport, we did not do any of their trips, so it would be unfair to comment, but they did seem quite expensive, but it is a hotel.

The food at the hotel whilst excellent, is expensive when compared to the other restaurants in town. But you are paying for convenience.
Some restaurants will come and collect you from the hotel, which is what we took advantage of several times.
We ate at the Le 48 Zen and Happy Rezort (French inspired, and totally cool place - though the waiters wearing white gloves was a bit Michael Jackson for us!). Vincents was fanatastic, spent the whole night there having cocktails then dinner whilst listening to great music. Toke had surprisingly great Indian food and very friendly staff. We also ate at the Lotus seaview restaurant and tried the Bebuk Duck.

As well, we sampled the local small restaurants who were all very friendly.

Overall we had a great stay, very relaxing, beautiful pool, friendly staff and the perfect place to do nothing for a week.

the hotel is located at candidasa which is very far away from any major towns, there is literally not much to do in the hotel or the nearby areas. kuta the activity centre, ubud is over 2 hours drive from this location. though the hotel is on the beach, the beach is hardly existing and non swimmable due to strong currents. the town of candidasa is tiny with a few stores, restaurant and supermarket it is about 15 minutes drive from the hotel.

the staff was friendly and cooperative. they keep advising you to book tours from them to various attractions of bali, all the trips are half/full day trips due to the isolated location of the hotel.
the swimming pool is quite beautiful but rather small it overlooks the sea.
the internet facility is behind the reception and the charges for the same and telephone calls we made from the hotel were quite steep

my advise only visit this property if you are looking for absolute peace and nothing to do, as really there is not much you can do here.

we had booked for 2 nights but the kids were getting so restless we checked out in 1 night itself.

also note the airport is over 1.5 hours drive so provide for enough time if you have to catch a flight from here.

definitely not my cup of tea and we wouldn’t visit this property again.

We scored a free week compliments of a previous holiday and filling in a time share questionaire, the room we got given was quite small classed as a studion, basically a bed and Tv with bathroom, a bit basic, the bathroom drains were not the best usually in early evening, however the week cost us $100AU so we were quite happy. The other rooms were quite reasonable.
The staff were veryt friendly, the hotel is small i think about 40 rooms all up, great view over the bay from around the pool, friendly people, mainly time share travellers, hotel is a little way out of candidasa but we hired a scooter for the week, grea fun, got off the beaten track and gave us freedom to travel into town when we wished.

I traveled as a part of a group of 13 family members in Feb'10 and stayed for a week. We got one room facing the sea (they have four such) which was also by the poolside. Rooms were clean, well maintained and adequately stocked and furnished. We were recieved by very friendly staff and all thru our stay we found the staff to be very courteous, helpful and accomadative of all our demands.
The resort is about 2 hours from Dempesar airport, in south Bali. Taxi service is very good and not too expensive either. The resort arranges the taxi even at short notice. Usually serviced by vans that seat about 6-7 pax at a time. Lots to sightsee in Bali but every point is about 1-2 hours from the resort so count that in when you plan.
Restaurant is good and faces the pool and the sea. There is no beachfront though, as the same has been eaten away by the sea moving in over the past few years. The hotel manager told us that they used to play football on the sand about 10 years ago. Now the sea abuts the hotel.
Highly recommend this place for a nice quiet stay. Give 4 stars for accomodation and 5 stars for service.

Having read some reviews, I was not sure about how this resort would fare. Needn't have worried, it's an intimate, friendly, pretty and well laid out resort, gradually being renovated, room by room. Previous reviews say the rooms were dated and old. Most are now re-done, and are very clean, stylish and comfortable. The position is out of town, but you can walk up the lane to great little cafes, the one at the top on the right is fantastic. Walk next door to the Alila and dine their. All the better cafes in town come to pick you up if you call!
Happy hour is indeed happy, unlike some of the big hotels that seem to skimp on their cocktails, two Long Island Iced Teas, and my head was spinning. Good restarant. Great for couple and families

I stayed here for 5 nights in June 2009, with my family of 4 and my aunt's family of 3. We were happy with the hotel.

The units (one bedroom with large living area & kitchenette) ) given to us were good and huge. It was cleaned diligently and thoughtfully everyday.

The hotel staff were friendly and always helpful.

A couple of locally-run eating outlets just outside the hotel offer value for money local and western cuisine.

On the whole, Candidasa is an ideal place to relax in if you want peace and quiet, or have easy access to water-sports activities like snorkeling/diving in Amed or Blue Lagoon.

Recommended for those who wish to stay away from the crowded Kuta:)
