Resorte Marinha Dourada
Ranked #6 of 19 Hotels in Arpora
Reviewed July 2, 2012

There isn’t much to add to the 200 or so reviews already here, but it’s probably worth separating out the opinions and values of Brits on a cheapo package winter sun holiday from native Indian holidaymakers. As the former, with Thomson on B&B basis, and with lots of experience of India, the Marinha Dourada entirely lived up to our expectations. It is indeed a bit shabby, but it’s clean enough and the rooms are large. Not everything works; we had no expectations for a better Western breakfast (go out for that), or a working gym, or a decent restaurant. Just treat it as a comfortable cleanish place to sleep and to laze by the pool.

For eating out there are plenty of reasonable options close by without going into Baga, tho it is a bit dark walking along the road at night. The night markets are also near. For Baga, however, you do need to take the hotel’s ancient but quite serviceable minibus shuttle, which will drop you wherever you want on its run; getting back requires a taxi. Goa is unlike the rest of India, of course. Taxis, particularly the cartel company ranks in front of the hotel, are all (ridiculous) fixed prices. For our days out we negotiated directly with guys along the main drag through Baga.

Otherwise, what’s not to like about the MD? It’s silly-cheap for what it offers, and clearly has loads of loyal UK retirees returning year on year (I wonder what they pay for longer stays?). The pools are nice. The staff are friendly. There’s free (supposed to be paid) wi-fi in the lobby if you don’t hog it. It’s quiet – at least unless there’s an event. We had a wedding party one evening which was very noisy indeed, but it stopped by midnight.

this was my first stay at the hotel. nice location . Anjuna , baga , calangute , arpora saturday market , vagator are quite close by.
the lakes at the hotel add to the beauty . Staff is pleasant. Breakfast not worth eating.
Std rooms are OK ...
Had electricity problems in that area !!

but the experience was beautiful...

Room Tip: All rooms have the lake view kind of thing.. request for the one closest to the lake..

I have been visiting the Hotel since 2000 and return to recharge my batteries. It is ideal for fishing in the lakes ( if that's what you enjoy) the beauty of the area, peace and quiet, allowing for the odd noisy group but they are usually only small groups from other areas of India. They do not seem to offer their own countrymen much in the way of respect and ignore safety advise. That said, I have encountered it twice and was shortlived. The staff who I have come to know are always courteous and helpful. I have found if you ask nicely they go out of their way which, having read some reviews, some may be demanding in their requests.Goa seems to have one speed which is next door to stop, unless you are in a tut tut :-) which is part of it's charm. The days are warm / hot so what's the rush. The Marinha is not the height of fashion in it's decor but most people seem to like it. It is clean, the grounds are well kept, the pools are cleaned and the areas checked regularly. There are many good restaurants a short distance away, Nick's Place is a firm favourite as are a few a short walk through the woods to Arpora Village. A beautiful walk but a torch may be a good purchase at the equivilant of 50p. The taxi's are always on hand to take you anywhere, wait and bring you back. The bus which runs from the hotel hourly, to Baga Beach, is most reliable. I cannot agree with a few opinions regarding the bus. For the short distance it is more than adequate and it's free. The Tailor at the Hotel is superb, he makes brilliant copies if you have a favourite. I would recommend the Marinha Dourada for relaxing or a base, There isn't much in the way of entertainment but there is plenty not too far away, depending on what you are looking for. Tito's Lane and surrounding area is pretty lively after dark but safe. The Reception Staff or the Guy's at the bar are knowledgeable and helpful and they make great cocktails. Enjoy!! Cannot wait for my trip 2012

Room Tip: I always reserve the room I want. I choose to not be on the far side, over the bridge. I would advis...

The Hotel is situated in a remote locale near bagah beach with narrow roads and no street lights. Difficult to find the hotel in the night. The rooms are very old and needs desperate repairs. The look could be delebrately rustic and old for the feel. The place is less of hotel and more like an estate with a big pool which is not conveniently located. All guests from the room can very closely look at the pool taking away the privacy. All the rooms have nice balconies for sit out and a good place to sit and relax. The bed quality is good when compared to the room and other aspects. It has a good layout with big lawns and a big pond with fishes. Good place to walk around and enjoy the hotel surrounding. The hotel is close to the night market that happens every Saturday and a lovely evening to be at with grilled fishes and drinks. The hotel is very well priced and is worth a stay for the amount you pay. The food quality is very bad and suggest you stay away. Did not find the place hygienic to eat. The restaurants are dirty and not well maintained.

Overall good quality to stay and experience the hotel and the room. Avoid the restaurants there.

Nice property and very close to Baga beach . Slightly old but is an imposing structure due to the sheer size . it has 200 + rooms .
They also have a shuttle every hour to the beach free of cost

i was suggested this hotel by my family first & then one of friend.when searched on the web hotel seems to be good and very good locality. From the outside this hotel looks great, the gardens are really well maintained and the lobby area is pleasant enough. The rooms however are very dated, the gym equipment is rusty, the jacuzzi a health hazard, the shuttle bus like prisoner transport and the breakfast experience is like being back at school. There are lists of rules posted everywhere!
but other wise hotel is very nice attractive near to all the beaches fort's.
advise is not to go in off season as you might not get what you are looking at or what you want and you might get the answer also "its off season so..."
But overall its good.keep it up.
Rooms are old styled need lot of upgrade for today's traveler.

Room Tip: don't take room in new wing

There are lists of rules posted everywhere! Somehow Marinha Dourada manages to attract repeat business but eventually the owner will have to inject some serious cash to improve the facilities.
