Me and my wife stayed at this hotel in late October 2008. Generally speaking it's not bad but it's a little out of town (you must have a car or hire a taxi to get into Cape Town) and it's just behind the highway. Unfortunatley it's not acoustically insulated and the traffic noise it's terrible at night.

If you do not have a car or friends that will pick you up and drop you down at the hotel like we had, I would say it's not a good choice for turistic purposes.

Protea hotels cover the whole range from 5 star to modest and from expensive to cheap. This one is below the middle of the range on price and ditto on facilities. Generally, I'm a Protea afficianado, but the Tyger Valley is not on my list of hotels to come back to. You need a car if you're going to be out here. The food is okay but not great. Rooms are a good size, though, and clean, and the beds are comfortable. Good views of Table Mountain, but it's quite a way away. Traffic noise is heavy. If you're a tourist and planning trips to Table Mountain and the Waterfront, you have a drive or a hefty taxi fare on your hands. The value is good, though -- I paid 480 rand per night and you can't quibble about that (if you're British, think £31).
