Sugarbird Manor is in a very peaceful and beautiful location a few miles from the centre of Stellenbosch. The accomodation is excellent, everything is in good condition and there is lots of space and a relaxed atmosphere. The security is excellent two - when you are in the complex you don't notice the surrounding fence etc as it is well hidden amongst the trees and plants.

We stayed there with our young daughter who was only 18 months - the hotel is set up more for grown ups but the staff were extremely kind and thoughtful. For example: because of the swimming pool they gave us a nice room on the 2nd floor. In addition, Amori (the nice young lady on reception) baby sitted for us on 3 occasions which meant we could have a few evenings out. They had no problems either with out little one running round the place....chasing their cats (the friendliest cats in the world, by the way).

We loved the infinity pool - you could sit there for hours, with a super view.

Unless you request otherwise.the hotel serves you breakfast only (it is a decent breakfast) so it assumes you are travelling out during the day and night time - which is fine as you generally do this in Stellenbosch anyway (with the wine estates etc - there are plenty of places to go).

In summary: we loved Sugarbird Manor and highly recommend it....it was just what we needed after a relatively busy week in Cape Town.

I just want thank you for such an wonderful review. The staff works hard to make everyone comfortable and welcome so it really helps motivate them even more when guests give positve and sincere feedback. We hope to see you again on your next visit! Ginny Povall, Owner

Sugarbird is well hidden from the bustle but still right in the middle of the wine region in Stellenbosch. We stayed only for one night but could have stayed a lot longer. The rooms are beautifully finished, with views out over the vines and mountains. Our balcony was steps away from the pool. There is an honesty bar stocked with chesses, local wines and beers. Breakfast is served to perfection! The receptionist was so helpful in finding a restaurant for us as well as suggesting wine farms to visit. Couldn't fault anything!! Would love to be able to return again one day soon!!

Me and my brother had a wonderful time in Sugarbird Manor, we really didn't know what to expect but we we're blown away by the gorgeous view and location when we got there. I like the fact that's it's not a big hotel or anything, it's pretty private and cosy.

Most of all I enjoyed swimming in the beautiful pool. Breakfast was really nice, the staff members were kind and helpful and it's close enough to Stellenbosch to have a great time. Do bring your own car, we didn't have one so we had to take a taxi to Stellenbosch all the time...

Wow, this hotel is a real gem. We were keen to escape the hussle and bussle and noise of Cape Town and we found the perfect place. The pool area is lovely and peaceful and overlooks the beautiful winelands and with great mountain views. It is also incredibly quiet except for the hum of a tractor or the chattering birds. Simply wonderful. The staff are exceptional. What we loved is that we were pretty much left to our own devices: there was no fussing or tight rules but when we did need help, they were more than happy to assist. We'll be coming back here again for sure- I've never felt so relaxed after a hard week's work!

Agree with many of the other comments. Corne was away when we stayed, but the girls were good hosts. The gardens were delightful: great swathes of agapanthus that were just coming into bloom. They don't do evening meals, but they have an arrangement with the nearby Devon Valley Hotel, who came and picked us up and took us home after.

Room Tip: The south facing rooms have a tremendous view over the garden, vineyards and proteas to the mountains around Stellenbosch.
